Naugh can't take anymore chances then needed still not steady on feet. Fell again last sat morn at 3:30 am got up to pee and went down that quick. Broke hand and all beat up and over so still a big mess. Little more feeling coming back in feet and hands but weakness still there and not much stamina so trying to go would be the worse I could do. Plus my buddy said he won't take me and I should have enough sense to understand why. I do.

I'm trying to figure out how to get to the turkey bush if that's not bad enough. Would have to shoot from truck anyways can easily call bird to truck but then get out with broken hand and buggered up shoulder can't do it. sux

Don't know what they have to pay for insurance up there but think of it that way it has to be a lot and they can't operate at a loss either.

There's a lot to do on 30.00 so try not to think about what it cost now a days. Its a festable not just a regular shoot either.

Things are costing us all more than we want to these days its just something that's never going to change.

$55 for 3 days and camping is a deal for me. $30 for the day seems a bit steep though....

Isn't this a Trad Gang shoot? I thought that's where it started. But I also have CRS.

I remember Rob talking it up over there many years ago. It's a long drive for me as well so I'll be up to something else.

Well they had three courses back in the day. No back up .now two years ago it took 4 hours to get one course shot .!!! 10 guys shooting emptying there quivers !! Come on. ! I'll go stump shooting and trout fishing . Plus the venders are no more ! . Have fun

From: RymanCat
Date: 19-Apr-18

No it isn't a gang sanctioned shoot best I know its the club shoot that that you shoot on their grounds. Gang guys will be there as well as UBNJ boys. I'll mis seeing and talking with some of them guys and the NY boys too. It really is is a great shoot sux being down. Looking towards Sat. anyways my helper young feller coming over so we can get gardens opened and ready to plant.

Take enough arrows especially at gator it's quicksand there or tie a rope around your waste. LOL

Don't forget tic spray either and spray up. Very true the venders aren't what they used to be either.

As a past active member for almost 30 years (now retired and now an honorary member) I know the amount of work, planning and expense that goes into putting on this shoot. The club tries hard to put on a good shoot for us traditional guys and gals. Another retired member and myself built and designed Range 2 which has the famous alligator swamp shot, the V tree bear shot, island double buck shot and now no longer trees stand shot. The club has recently undergone changes in member and officers and now is back to a full functioning club. With an event like this, 3 days of shooting and camping, you can’t please everybody. But rest assured the club tries. Please give them your support and thanks for continuing this long standing traditional shoot. It’s one of the best on the east coast.

I wish I could go so darn disappointed now might rip my jacket off like they did their tunics in olden days when the Jewish boys got mad. LOL

I mis seeing and talking to Doc and the boys. I remember a fellow years ago his wife would push him around in wheel chair. I had often thought how nice that was they both shot. I had hoped I never got to that point but welp still trying not to and working on it.

There's so many great shots. That's another thing go to support not for yourself because one day it all might be gone quick enough. Plus the friends you make and see and deal with over the years I don't think there's any amount of money we can put on that either.

This shoot is the kick off for the festival season.

Don't forget tic sprays!!!!!!!!!!! And use it!!!!!!!

Enjoy and Craig take lots of pictures please I know you will I'd like to see them.

Hi Craig. I wasn't going to go . Because of the crowds but I went anyway .it was to nice of a day . I was shocked nobody was there ! I shot with a buddy from Long Island that I bear hunt with. Didn't expect to see him there . Hey Val , then bumped into lefty from buts and bows ! Last I saw him was in 1978 when he ran robinhood archery in Monclair nj. Any way . Shot the courses with nobody in Front or back of us . Beautiful , venders were few . Same target layout wish they would open up the third that they used to have . Cost was $25 for the day guess they realized 30 was to much . Not To many guys camping , don't know about the new sheriff ruling the club. . O the swap meet was small but ok. All in all I had a good day. Even won a bow quiver ! Turnout was small ,but that works for me ! . You going to Baltimore? I'll be camping with John and Tim again

I went on Saturday, in fact, I called in sick to work just to go. Arrived at 9 AM. Decent crowd by that point. Bad guess would be several hundred.

The food vendor was ...... well lacking. My dogs were lukewarm at best. No variety. I didn't mind it because I know that they cost money.

I did miss the practice range that use to be by the pop up and moving targets. The other one on the hill was still fun to shoot.

The courses: We shot two of the three courses. Did not shoot the Muzzy, wanted to but ran out of time. Some of the targets were badly shot up. The shots were fine, too many "bowling Alley" shots for me, but that is nothing more than a personal opinion.

What made it a great day was the people we met and shot with. For me, Whittingham is more of a social gathering than anything else.

I will say that I have heard rumors that there are voices in the club that want to do away with the weekend based on attendance numbers. Heard that the summer shoot draws several times what the spring shoot does.

If true, I will say this. The spring course, has the potential to become an awesome event. It will take a little elbow grease and love, but it is in my opinion an event that should be saved.

The one part of the day that made me laugh was near the end (for us), people were starting to lay out their blankets for the swap meet and guy came up and told everyone to cover it up that it was not five yet. he was correct, it was 4:55. Just the way he said it, made me laugh, at him. He did not ask, he ordered!

Overall, I'm happy I went, had a great time, made a few new friends, what more can you ask for?

Last Whittingham for me. The new "sheriff" blew it as far as I am concerned and my buds feel the same.

$25 for the day was way out of line. Same setup and some of the targets were pieced together.

Vendors were lacking big time. Used to be you didn't have room to navigate in the barn perusing the vendors. If there were 20 people in there at one time, that was a lot.

Food definitely lacking, again.

Weather was perfect the day I went, Saturday, but attendance way down.

And I second 3D archery's comment about the over-zealous Appalachian member "warning" us not to set up our stuff for the blanket sale until exactly 5:00. As said, it was 4:55 when he issued the directive. Was waiting for him to tell us we would be shot for non-compliance.

Been going for many years and it ain't half what it used to be. Heard they wanted to shift emphasis to the compound shoot in August and if so, they have definitely succeeded.

Craig .yep he has beard .real name is John he ran the pro shop in Montclair for robinhood archery . Ha I remember that about the golf shoot . And as far as the 5 minute early blanket that happined last time to you . There's no venders! So what the hell . And that guy was a ass ! .

From: Bozz
Date: 23-Apr-18

Craig, although the crowds were down this year, most folks were in good spirits. The club dropped some cash, and got about 7 new targets, big ones, not woodchucks( like you see at Denton) TANJ had their Saturday nite meal for everyone there. Can't see anything to complain about, cool weather and less ticks. I'll keep going, you missed a good one, see you at Marsh Hill.

From: RymanCat
Date: 23-Apr-18

Robin hood did he buy out Jack Brost? Sad news indeed to hear. Guess the shoot goes modern with x bows and all next and they will be happy with that.

Early blanket happens everywhere. Always someone to complain from the shoot rather than it be good for it they'd rather whine like women!

Plain and simply put terribly sad! Glad didn't go then.

From: Mountain Man
Date: 23-Apr-18

Well i thought it was good shoot Glad i went Great set up To many holes in a target? I mean if your arrows didnt stick i could see a bitch but i shot wverything there and didnt have an issue with to many holes in a target,,hell thats the point

As far as blanket partys ; ) i only went Friday i wasnt there to shop just shoot

I saw were they mite not have a spring shoot anymore because of a low turn out . Hey it's the clubs fault . No venders and they nickel and dime you for everything . Open up the the third course They Used to have ! Do something different

Spoke with the guys from Appalachian Bowmen at the Bergen Bowmen open house shoot yesterday and they said there was never a thought of combining or eliminating the spring shoot. That they are open to and suggestions or comments to make it a better shoots.

From: Pintail
Date: 07-May-18

I live 25 minutes from that area. I have attended every shoot in the spring since it started back in the early 90's. I quit going three years ago because the price kept climbing and the targets were getting really bad(shot up condition). Its always been a good time with some really great people but it may be time for an overhaul?
