Many many years ago I came up with an idea for a "tree saddle". My idea was to have a hang on tree "bracket" that resembled a real saddle, complete with stirrups that would allow you to sit with your back against the tree, straddling the "saddle", and your feet in stirrups.

It would be pretty darned comfy to sit on, the stirrups would be adjustable so you could lift up to lean out and shoot an arc from one side to the other.

I did build a prototype out of wood and steel tubing, but it was too heavy for me to easily set and I didn't have a way to make a shaped saddle.

I still think it would make a comfortable sit, especially for guys who like to stay out for long hunts.

Sounds like it would be far too bulky and heavy to handle for most people.

We made crotch seats that were length adjustable with a hinge with bark biting teeth. The worked good for about a month. That was when the last one got stolen. Just like the seat part of my Sabor climber that i left out over noon one day. We have a bunch of thieves around here in our woods. I had a nice cushion on mine, the stirrups would have been a handy addition.

Interesting concept. We used a small fiberglass seat on younger horses as we were getting them used to carrying weight and being cinched. They were very light, your design has my mind thinking of making a harness to attach something similar. Portable, would have adjustable stirrups, and basically tie in anywhere.. ?

Kind of hard to throw your leg over the saddle so to speak to get on it. Tree might be in the way, or you might end up facing the tree. :>)

Regardless, hard to keep the cinch and stirrup tack from squeaking and spooking deer. He hee.

Even if you could get one to work, I can't see any improvement over most stands already available.

Then again, thinking outside the box is a good way of JusPassin the time when Spring is late.

I had horses for some years. Got thrown out of a saddle or two. But 17 hands vs. seventeen ft. is another matteras your sailing thru gravity :). Sounds like a cool idea on paper, but I don't think I would recommend it. Lots of reasons, main one loss of mobility, comfortable turning radius, etc.

A Wenonah kevlar canoe seat mounted on aluminum with the hinge bite.

Think about it...a tree saddle that's on a tree and in a tree...

If the above makes sense to you, then you most likely have horse poop on your boots.
