Don't waste your money on CE Bulldog Nock Collars, they'll take a glancing side nick, but when you center punch a nock, the collar will split like a beer can and so will your shaft. They are thin lightweight aluminum, if they were stainless steel they would be better but 75# and likely whatever you are shooting is going to trash that too. Pin Nocks are expensive but not as much as shafts when things are going well. Yep, everybody says don't shoot groups, but sometimes you gotta do it, unless you can't.

Never say the point of those. I am going to try out pin nocks. ~Wojo

Pin nocks are my list of "Never Again".

If the nock breaks the pin strikes the string and breaks several of the strands. Fortunately the bow was not damaged just had to get a new string.

I got a set of CX arrows that came with those collars. I did the same thing to one of them, then took them off. They're in a baggie in a drawer somewhere. Some guys put them on the front of the shaft to add a few grains of weight and foot the shaft.

It is a good idea, just poor execution I think. I use old aluminum arrow shafts cut into 3/4" pieces for the arrows I know I will be stumping with or when I hunt where there are lots of rocks. They do help keep the end of the carbon shafts from splitting on a more solid hit, but nothing is bomb proof.

Years ago I used glue in tapered nock inserts and glue on nocks, I am out of the inserts but still have plenty of the nocks. I searched for the inserts recently online but was unable to locate any, they did a good job of steering off incoming points.

That's a fact, but I gave up wood years ago for several reasons, I did enjoy making them though.

For me, nock collars always worked like a funnel, and directed the arrow more to center, thus enhancing the damage.

I have pin nock ordered.

I was told a while back that it was a good problem to have, by somebody who is obviously not paying for my arrow shafts, I'm never happy when I bust them.

Thousands of people use pin nocks and never have a problem. Hard to blame one issue on the style of nock when something else could have been the problem. They save more arrows from that rear splitting and the costly impaling by another arrow.

If I decided to shoot carbons, that's the first thing I would do...change to either glue-on nock adapters or pin nocks.

If they will fit the shafts you shoot 3Rivers sells a couple different glue in nock adaptors.

“If I decided to shoot carbons, that's the first thing I would do...change to either glue-on nock adapters or pin nocks.“

I agree George. I am not the best shot, I i have destroyed my share of arrows. I just made the switch to Pin nocks for my Carbon Express arrows. Top hat makes pin nock adapters to fit a lot of shafts.

The best solution for carbon arrows is to use pin nocks.

I look forward to my arrows splitting.. that ll be the day for me!

The cheapskate solution, if you happen to have a supply of bent-up or too-short 2114s or 2117s around, is to cut 1/2”-3/4” off of the nock end and glue it onto the tail end of your arrow; then you have a much-harder-to hit taper under a much- less-expensive glue-on nock. So most of the protection of a pin nock for a whole lot less money.

Someone here recommended that recently, and it works pretty easy. Maybe not precise enough for one of Rick’s Bad Day groups, but the taper seems to settle into the end of the shaft nice and square.

For those who "may" have missed it - my above comments with the pictures were in jest, thus why I said " Haaaaa !!!!! 8^) "

Those arrows that come with those have weak sidewalls in the back, those keep them from splitting out at the rear from hard hits to the front not from Robin Hoods!
