Hello All,

Father Time is slowly catching up to me and my draw length has become shorter. So I need to cut down several dozen cedar arrows to get to my "new" draw length. I'd like to buy an arrow saw and am looking for suggestions on which model to buy. Once I have them cut, I'll use my Woodchuck Taper Tool to finish them off.

Looking for an arrow saw that will do cedar, aluminum, and carbon arrows, if one is available that will cut all three.

Thanks,

Two Flints

I use a hobby shop cut off/chop saw. Works fine, just don't crowd it. Harbor freight has the same saw.

For wood shafts I use a utility knife. Put the shaft on a table and roll it under the knife. Keep rolling the shaft under the knife until it snaps off in the center then touch up.....

I have the one Black Widow sells and mounted it on a board

been using it about 20 years now with no failures

You can watch the auction site and get an actuall arrow cut off saw that all you have to do is plug in and start cutting arrows for under $200.00.

I've used on from FS Discount Archery for over 30 years and it is still going strong.

What a bunch of died in the wool consumers. Caboo has it right. Any knife will do. You're going to taper the end anyway and virtually all of the cut surface will be gone.

I suppose that if everyone quit buying stuff nobody needs the economy would collapse...sigh.

be careful with internet advice. your saw needs to be a specific speed for the carbons. if it is too slow it will fray the carbon and weaken the end, causing issues.

I don't know the speed of the chop saw shown above but it looks cool, and I would use it if it was fast enough.

Weston 8000rpm arrow saw with vacuum attachments for about $129 ready to go with accurate measurements and square cuts with no Jerry rigging or make shift set up. Had mine for over 8 years and not a minute's trouble. Bowhunters Superstore has a good price.

I second the Weston 8000 rpm saw with dust collector. I just bought one and had great results with my first dozen carbons. I had been using the harbor freight mini cut off saw but this is so much better. Nice clean cuts & easy setup. The blade will cut carbon, aluminum and wood. I especially like the ability to hook up a vacuum when cutting carbons. You don't want to take a chance on getting carbon dust in your lungs. They list for $200 but do a search and you should find them in the $130 range.

Here is what I made out of junk laying around the shop. Dremel with flex shaft and cut off wheel. The white part is the trim plate from an old dishwasher. It works better than I could have hoped for.

Guys, Many thanks for your suggestions . . . I decided on the Weston 800 arrow saw and made my purchase through Amazon . . . purchased the Weston with the vacuum attachment and also picked up a small vacuum cleaner for my work bench . . . I'll post a photo when it's all set up.

Thanks again,

FredSG

Hi Guys,

I will eventually have to shorten all of these arrows as seen on my workbench.

I just figure the Weston will make cutting so many arrows easier in the long run.

Riverwolf, does that cutter you recommend have a name. I've seen several models on Amazon with different colors and prices. How about a link for the one you pictured in your post?

If only doing a few dozen then the cheap cutoff saw shown above from Harbor Freight will do. I hate their cheap crap. Always fail when needed the most. https://www.harborfreight.com/2-in-mini-bench-top-cut-off-saw-62136.html

If your doing more then the Weston 8000 w/ the dust attachment. From the least likely place I would have ever thought to find it and cheap $125.00. https://www.meatprocessingproducts.com/search-results.html?query=arrow+saw&x=0&y=0

Delivered quickly with no issues. Now I just have to get the time to use.

FredSG, if your draw is getting shorter then your pulling less on your bows you have. Cutting your arrows will make them stiffer. I haven't read all the post so if this has been discussed then disregard.

I use the cheap Harbor freight cutoff saw and it has worked so far, but I really hate it. Think tinker-toy power and quality. But, I was too cheap to purchase a real saw and this was delivered immediately. It has served its purpose, but I can't recommend it.

Just ordered the Weston, hope it works with inverter. Thanks for the heads up, trap
