Got a Bearcat at the flea mkt. light green limbs 66" 45# zebrawood riser. says 8c k217. by the arrows and stuff with it I think its not been used since about 4 yrs after it was bought. don't know how it was stored. Not sure its safe to string. I am not afraid to string it, but if it breaks? (I bought to resale) been thinking about setting up at a shoot an try to sell off my excess bows n stuff. my ? is when made, value, should I string up n run it thru its paces or sell unstrung for much less. buyer beware.. ?that's how I bought it myself, what say ye?

I rather see pictures first but I have strung up many old bows and they worked just fine. If it has no cracks, damage,or not terribly dried out,go for it. >>>----> Ken

No need to fear stringing them up unless there is a visual delamination or other separation of glued parts. For heaven's sake, thousands of bows are being used from way back when. Besides, how do you sell something you are afraid to string? String it, pull it back a little at a time until at full draw. 99% of the time you won't have any issues. If you won't string it, be prepared to sell it pretty cheap.

The one piece Bearcat doesn't have much monetary value, but if you got it cheap enough you can turn a profit. The Bearcat was made from 1964 to 1971...the later models being metal risers with solid glass limbs.

thanks all. I have owned and shot mostly old bears, but not any that have not been strung in 45 or 50 yrs :) it is very nice, I cleaned it up with some scratch out car restorer and found myself thinking about keeping it. I am blue and green color challenged, so it looks green to me inside. I had a black glass 60" bearcat that shot very well for me. sold it to a young feller just getting started in trad. shoots his trad bows with a release. this bow has a Bear brush rest on it. I would like to know the cash value of a really nice one like this. I wouldn't want to over charge anyone ...:)...ron
