Just got a Herter’s mag recurve from my wife’s grandpa. Gonna be hauling it to the woods every chance this fall. What’s the Brace height and arrows you guys use? Will try and post a few pics in few

The Herters I’ve owned weren’t picky about arrows, but the brace height seemed critical. Exact model will determine brace height.

Which bow? Herter's had several they called Magnum, a photo would be nice...along with the length of the bow. There should be a sticker on it telling you string length. Herter's never followed AMO standards.

Here’s the sticker that is on it

The sticker tells you string length, which will give your proper brace height. I've owned several Herter's over the years and most did best at about 8 1/2" more or less.

Yep, that’s a beauty. I like how Herter’s sculpted that riser. Should be smooth and fast. My 1971 Archer’s Digest suggested brace height for a Perfection Magnum is 9 - 101/2” depending on length (46” - 62”).

That’ll work. I use a browning wasp and so this is a new to me bow. Her gpa wants a pic of me with a deer that I’ve taken with it this year. So it’s my game plan to get this bow in shape and hitting where i aim it

George Stout wanted to sell me a Sambar Perfection years ago and being stupid i didnt buy it. I remember shooting at a bullseye target that hung on George's father in law Buck's old tool shed. Arrow after arrow went straight to the bullseye. It had a factory camo paint on the back side of limbs. Darn it! Wish now id of kept it.

Got a string put on the bow and shot about 3 arrows before the rest busted. So what’s the best stick on arrow rest? All weather rest from bear?

Herter's measured their brace height (fistmele) from the back of the riser not face (belly). Here's a picture from their 1976 catalog for reference. Good bows! Lance

Very interesting info on the way Herter’s measured their bows brace height from the back of the riser rather from the deepest part of the grip. That would explain the 9 - 10 1/2” brace height I saw recently.

had a Sitka perfection 62" took a 56"string, braced 8.5" to deepest part of grip. don't know what it was to the back of the bow as herters done it...ron

That is why I said 8 1/2". Bob Barrie had his own program and didn't follow AMO, which was voluntary anyway.

I ended up with a 58" string and it was right on 8 1/4 BH.
