This is my personal experience only from two widow longbows. I have an extra large hand and both had the standard grip, which bit me a little in my palm from being too narrow for me. I solved that by putting a fairly thick leather wrap under the rubber slide-on grip and no problems after that. If I was ordering a new widow, it would have have the larger Toby grip. Call the widow gang and talk with them. They'll give you good advice.

Glad to see this come up. I have flat hands that are pretty spread out. I like bows that fill my grip. Some of the narrower or slim line grips are really hard for me to shoot, but it does not seem like very many make a grip that fills my paw. I'm glad to see some others like the more full or larger grips as I do. Definitely will look at the "Toby" grip.

I have the toby grip and really like it.
BW told me when I ordered that most people who where used to shooting recurves preferred the Toby grip.

All my PL’s have the standard grip. It is an easy grip to get used to more so than a Toby grip. I have shot them both and suggest you try them both before you buy one.

Never buy a bow based on someone else's opinion of a grip.
I shoot recurves and detest the Toby grip.
You need to be able to try them to see what works best for you. Even if that means having to test drive all the options you are interested in.

I have a small/ med hand and prefer the standard grip. I tried a demo bow with the Toby grip and it floated around in my hand. The standard grip is a little 'pointy' in the hand for some, but I like it.
+1 on Jim's comment. Awesome bows, but try before you buy.

The Standard and the Toby grip look about the same to me viewed from the side. Viewed from the front or back, the Toby grip is swelled outward in the palm area so it fills up your hand more. It's mainly a difference in feel.

Good topic. I plan on buying a BW this summer after only handling the Toby grips. Having small hands didn't seem to be an issue. I liked the full fit. However, I'll now give the standard grip a try as well.

So if you had to tighten a screw that had a slot, say a half inch wide, which screw driver would you choose? The first one has a blade half inch wide and half inch diameter handle. THe second one has a blade half inch wide and a handle 2 inches in diameter. Which one could you get the screw tighter.
Bow handles/grips are the opposite, because we don't want torque. So the thinner the better. The book 'Archery Anatomy' by Ray Axford has 4 pages with pictures explaining thin grips. The size of your hand really has nothing to do with it.
Well, if you the grip is the same and you have large hands you can't torque it as much as a guy with small hands. Strength excluded.

I too am looking at a PL and spoke to Roger at BW. Being 6' he "suggested" the toby even though it's all personal preference. Personally I like the thinner.
