Greetings All,

I'm looking for possibly spray or powder to keep feathers dry. What have you used and what was your results?

I know covers work, but I'm looking for a coating vs. a cover...

Thanks in advance, Jason

I used the spray or powder used for dry flies! Seemed to work the best. Years back I switched to all natural wild turkey feathers... with thier natural oils,I now have no need for further waterproofing!

Wild Turkey and goose feathers do hold up better but I bend the Trad rules a bit. I keep a couple arrows with vanes for when I get caught in a downpour. These days I might just sleep in if it is raining. :^) >>>----> Ken

I used to keep one bow set up with a Bear Weatherrest for rainy day shooting. Wet feathers still flew okay off of it.

That said, use waterproofing made for feathers now, as said above, fly anglers have the good stuff

Mr. BAker nailed it- I always have two arrows fletched with three wild turkey feathers if there is a chance of rain. Most of my arrows have at least one wild turkey feather anyway- *** note** that's for if I get caught in a rain! I do not intentionally hunt in the rain. WIld turkey feathers are the way to go! THe only drawback to using them,as far as I'm concerned, is that they are difficult to see once they leave the string.

Unscented hair spray works good.

Thanks Guys!

Alaska is in my near future and I want to have my bases covered.

Happy hunting, Jason

If you're going to Alaska, take extra arrows along in a waterproof container. Even treated feathers will matt down if exposed to constant moisture.

Black Magic Tire treatment works better then anything Ive ever tried, just have to wait a couple weeks for the smell to disappear.. treated some arrows and 5 yrs later you could still run them under the faucet and they would repel water. Just lightly spray and work in feathers with fingers, fluff up and let dry pretty much lasts forever.
