Been lingering here a long time, had an account years ago but forgot my login. Anyway I am back! A internet search turned up some pretty good ideas on homemade 3d turkey targets, sure most of you have seen them. One guy stuffed Styrofoam and spray foam in a decoy but had issues with it standing up. I tried this myself and mine works great. Bought the cheap $5 decoy from Walmart (it is made with a foam material, actually working better than the heavier plastic). Used Styrofoam, plastic, and big gap sealer. I folded cardboard in a triangular shape that just fit in the slot in bottom of decoy (about 5"long), I also filled this (stand) with big gap foam. I put another triangle at base (sort of like a wing) for support and glued that on a flat piece of cardboard. I set a brick on the base. I have about 75 shots into this thing with no pass throughs. Holes collapse a little when arrows are pulled. I expect this thing to last a few hundred shots and together it cost about $12. I shoot a Toleke whip, about 53#s mostly form 20 yds. I'll try to get a pic posted tomorrow if anyone is interested.

Nice looking target tj ! I made them for years like that except for the base.I fill the cheap decoy from Wal Mart with newspaper in the head area. Stuff it in there real good and mix newspaper in the body area to cut down on the great stuff.I used the large gap great stuff foam insulation spray from Home depot.Let it dry for a couple days and cut off any excess over spray.I placed 1 old aluminum arrow shaft in the body for a stake to hold it up in the grass. Also place sticks on either side of tail to keep it from spinning after being shot at. I shot target tips and two bladed broadheads in mine.

Pass the stuffing.

Good looking target. I have done the same with old faded decoys. It doesn't get much cheaper for a 3D target.

Thanks for the nice comments! An added benefit...trying to get my 12yo son back into archery and targets like this help keep his interest. Also, Wapiti touched on it but if you decide to do this yourself let the "large gap" sealer dry for several days, takes a while for the center to cure when its really thick.

That looks really great, I am going to have to make one of those. Thanks for sharing. Dave

Good point Boxcall, says right on the can "use responsibly". You're gonna want to use gloves too, I was very careful and got that stuff everywhere. I think it is also important to stuff as much Styrofoam as you can get in the decoy while leaving room for the stand to go up into it, maybe 3 or 4 inches. The head, tail, and stand are solid spray foam then I filled all the cavities in body and shoved it on the stand. It took a little more than 3/4 of a can. Another tip, after gluing the triangle stand wrap duct tape around it, glues up solid.

Very cool!

I've always wanted to do that, but haven't got around to it yet.

Nice job!

Thanks for sharing, I will give that a try. My oldest daughter will love shooting at a turkey target.
