Part of our mountain farm/land. These old paths were put in for snowmobile back in the 1970's. Now we rarely get enough snow to even have a machine....so we don't.

Looking over some of our select cut area of our woods. The far mountain that can be seen is the start of the Laurel Highlands of the Allegheny Mountains.

Is that a Carrol Recurve George? Very nice place you have there.

That select cut area should be putting on good browse this year from the looks of it.

Nice place.

I went down to my place in Texas last week since it was finally dry enough to work the tractor. Got a couple of days work done before it started raining again. Doing like you, cleaning up brush and logs after getting a thinning last year. Lots of work to do, but it is greening up down there already.

Just a couple hours north of us this morning, Saranac Lake, was -20F ...the only place I could find colder was north of the Brooks Range, -28F. Enjoy your spring days, George. :)

nice pics George, nice place,,,, but where is the snow???? ha ha..... few more weeks, for us, and the snow is now crusted....

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

The snow has been all around us this year, but right here we didn't have a total of even 15 inches the entire winter. Always a chance, but it's fading quickly.

Very nice! Snow and mud here but we will take the water anyway we can. Matthew

Thanks for the photos.

What I especially liked was "...harrow and seed for the wild critters." I gotta say that is VERY good to hear. Nicely done. The world would be a better place if more men took care of wild critters like that.

We have only 2.5 acres but I leave it unmowed where alot of others here mow it 'cause it looks good'. Well I don't give a damn about that. Critters need a place to live and flat mowed bs eliminates their natural habitat.

Great pics George ! I love the woods anywhere, but am real partial to the eastern forests, your pics could be here in Kentucky.

I stayed there with GDS last October for Pa's opening archery season. Kind of a tradition we keep. Our version of "The Oldest Game". The cabin is kept toasty warm by a cast iron potbelly stove, good food and plenty of hunting tales. The wooded area the surrounds the cabin is a hardwood mix with thick undergrowth in spots, ideal for deer. We stump shoot there alot, too.

I agree Bob. My wife and I were in the yard one day when car stopped. A man walked to us and said, "I can tell you how to get those weeds out of your yard." I said, "what weeds"? He said, "that dandelion, and wild phlox and broadleaf...yada, yada." I told him my lawn was one of the most colorful of the area. It has yellow in spring, purple in the early summer, and many shades of blue and other flavors until near November. Then I told him that 'weeds' was a man made word, nature doesn't recognize it.

@ GEORGE, Did You tell Your visitor that some of the "so-called" weeds can be used for food or making tea? BLESSED BE!

Nice place but I think Your horseshoe is upside down.

From: buster v davenport

The man chopped and burned, burned and chopped until the weeds were gone and so was he. Ma and Pa Stout sat there a grinning and waving to him on that bag of seeds. I couldn't help my self. ;)

P.S. You have a nice place there! bvd

The horseshoe is just fine. First, I'm not superstitious, and second, the story varies from region to region.

Gosh I can't believe how nice it is down there. Southern Tier of N.Y. has the most March snow I've seen in 20 years. Enjoy!

It was 54 today, but tomorrow and Wednesday we're to get a snow story. We'll see what comes of it. The angle of the sun won't let it stay long anyway. I'm ready for tee shirt weather anyway.
