Great pictures ....Love watching and seeing Eagles , hawks , owls ,.....but in the Brain department its a "No Contest" ...Ravens & Crows play mental games with everything else that walks-crawls-climbs -or takes to wing ;)

Love the pics, I live near the Hudson River in Coxsackie, NY, see many eagles and ospreys. I agree the ravens and crows are the jokers.

Shawn, Really nice photos. Are they Crows, or Ravens, they look to big to be Crows. The head and beak look like a Raven to me in the third photo. Really nice!

How's the coyote baiting/hunting going? What are you using for bait? Thanks for sharing the photos.

From: Elderly OCR

I've never seen crows play games with Accipiters.

I did see a presumably young crow take a mild repetitive beating from a Cooper's with no help given by the rest of his crew.

Those eagles are so cool. Not very many at all around here but there is a nesting pair not far from here at the Lake Blackshear dam. When I was in AK during September they were everywhere. Really majestic birds. Great pictures.

Wonderful pictures. Especially love the eagles. Speaking of which they are returning to MN. Saw 15 to 20 flying over the river in Chaska, MN last week. When I drove home they were all sitting in two trees. People pulled over and got out of their cars just to see them. Thanks for sharing - didn’t know the trail cams could take such great shots. ~OB55

Pat..".I've never seen crows play games with Accipiters".

Love the Coopers , and Goshawk's also...but what you described is not the norm . In these parts , if a crow sends a distress call ...a army will report as large as needed ...While in Canada I witessed several times as a lone raven escorted a adult Bald Eagle from its territory ;^)

I can't post video , but I have video I shot just a few weeks ago of my "Winged Wolf pack" having some fun with a Coopers picking at a deer skull behind the house ...Lets just say he didn't enjoy his meal peaceful like ;)...Variables within every species ....but if one spends enough time observing Ravens and crows interacting with anything , you will see they are Highly intellegent creatures of the wing .

Thanks for posting this thread ...This is a perfect example of why I have started using a trail cameras for wildlife photography . Just like the birds above , you can capture life without it reaslizing its being watched......well "sometimes";^)))

I get Red Tail hawks (immature above)....Red shouldered Hawks...Coopers Hawks ..and sharp shinned hawk (top backyard birder;) all out back off and on througout the year...Noticably , the sharp shinned & coopers get much less attention from the crows as they glide through , but if one lingers in a area it will get chased .

Been lucky enough to watch Northern Gashawk (my favorite) ,Bald Eagles ,american kestrel(falcon),and even had a pair of Swallow tailed kites that stayed part of the year in a swamp I trapped(fields on the edge where I used to watch them hover in the air hunting) , and even seen a rare for these parts Golden Eagle back in the 70's the year of our Great blizzard 78 ;)

Along with many species of owls ....Lots of predators of the wing , and I'm happy to have witnessed them all .

The beauty of trail caeras is the low disturbance they cause compared to a actual photographer being invasive or disruptive . Don't care for them as hunting/scouting tools , but love the wildlife pictures one can obtain using them ;)

I've got some Ravens around the woods here. And let me tell you, those boys rule.

I have watched them in full speed gunning down a Red-Tail who apparently jerked them off majorly. He was flying for his life............

Ravens and Coyotes, when everything else is gone......they will still be wandering around.

I’ve seen goshawks grab chipmunks out in front me in a treestand. One time had a grey squirrel spot me in the tree and commenced to bitching nonstop for at least 10 min. Out of nowhere, a big goshawk came screaming by and tried to get him. The hawk missed him, but I didn’t hear a peep out of that squirrel for the rest of my hunt.

These were all taken by a 79 dollar trail cam. My buddy owns a house about 500 yards from a local reservoir and he has a coyote problem. We decided to set up the camera to see what was hitting the bait. We killed a few coyotes and then nothing on the bait for a few weeks until the raptors started showing up. Shawn

That year that the west nile virus was killing crows , I kept finding dead crows by a light pole, and thought the virus was getting them

then one day I saw the cause

there was an osprey nest In a near large oak tree,

and I saw a crow fly in to bother the nest and the osprey took presuit killing the crow in mid air, was quick
