I was wondering if someone could please help me out? I have a copy of Fred Bear Field Notes / The adventures of Fred Bear. It has a personalized autograph by Fred Bear inside the cover from 1980. While I appreciate the history of it, it's not personalized to me. So I am trying to find out a ballpark value that I might consider selling it or even trading if the a deal came around. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Anybody? I've been searching the web without finding any solid info to go on. I plan on returning to my chek-mate recurve this year and will need some more supplies in arrows and broadheads. Even a general opinion of value would help me post it on the next month of swap and trades. Thank you.

I have a copy. Mine says 1976 First Edition.

If you have watched all of the DVD’s, this book fills in the gaps. While reading you frequently think back, “ yeah that episodeon the dvd “

Its like you were there.

Squid, getting an objective price on something like that is like herding squirrels. The best case scenario for you is to not try to figure it out. Put it on Ebay as an auction item. That way you will get many folks who are interested. If you start with too high a price, they won't even bid and frankly it pisses off a buyer when someone doesn't know the value of something but starts with a very high price.

Auctions are nearly always fair as they apply to a final price because there is competition, so you don't need to start at some ridiculously high amount to start. Run it for seven days, and make sure you are in the proper selling classification....not underwear or bowling balls. List it as a Fred Bear Autographed Book. Some folks are all over the place on pricing and you will see those items hanging around for months before they either pull them or lower the starting price.

There are old book dealers specializing in "sporting books = hunting and fishing". A number of years ago I was able to get a first and second edition of the 2 best known Saxton Pope books. If you get nowhere with the Ebay search and no one here can help, you might be able to get some information from one of those specialized dealers.

It just dawned on me where I did get mine

Judith Bowman (for real) but when I googled it I see that she died in 2015 and there was an obituary. However, the company might still be going or give you a place to start.

Interestingly I could NEVER find a SIGNATURE for Saxton Pope to frame

Best of luck

Depends on if it a hardback or paperback version. And even then it depends on who sees it for sale. I have a hardbound copy given to my wife by Fred an signed to us both. I doubt it's worth alot but it is to me.

These things always have their times. Like selling bows, right now, unless it's very special, the market is not prime to say the least, and couple that with people thinking they have a Rembrandt when they really have a Dr. Seuss. You can google and search until your nose bleeds and that is likely the most accurate way to find an amount. That said, it's still subjective at best. That is why I 'always' sell on auction format that gives even the poorest person at least a shot, and you will nearly always get a fair value at the end.

Thanks for the replies! I had a tiny hope that there may be some standard that I can follow. Sounds like eBay is the best bet. Thanks again!

No idea of a price but to my side point...why is it people put so much stock in Ebay and what things sell for? Ebay is not the be-all end-all of real values.

I think a fair starting price might be $100.00. Fred signed a lot of stuff including books.I once bought and still have a signed Fred Bear's Field Notes book with the inscription on the inside cover that reads "Happy Hunting John Fred Bear 1977". Special for me as my name is John and I graduated high school in 1977.So I can look at it and pretend Fred wrote it personally to me. LOL. But I like it with just John instead of say,John Smith or some other John.I don't put any more value on it than any other signed by Fred Bear book that I own. If I did have one signed personally to me it would be priceless.
