Mine keeps throwing the sandin disk off. Hit me in the face twice. Put a new one on,the other one is new also, and the same thing. Cleaned the steel disk with acetone but did not help. I have to reset it after ever taper and some time it is lose before the taper is done and ruins the taper.
Anyone else have this problem.
Thanks

Sounds like the adhesive has deteriorated. Cut some circles from regular paper and use a spray adhesive to stick them on. Dries in a few minutes and wont come off.

They also make a commercial glue to coat the disk with, let it dry then apply the sanding disk. May help

I have a couple different spray glues and thought about using them. My concern is will I be able to get it all off when it's time to change the disc.

Scotch 77 contact spray adhesive. Acetone or white gas, will take it off later.

Heat the disc up with a lighter or torch until hot/very warm then stick your disc on. You’ll be good to go. I very rarely have a disc go flying and I make a lot of tapers and my woodchuck is outside in the cold garage all winter.

I think they changed it because it never used to fly off. I use belt sanding discs, cut in circle, same size as my tobacco tin, ha. Then I use barge cement to adhere it.

I started with a predecessor to a woodchuck that had round teflon arrow guides for tapering, it worked poorly. All wood shafts are a little bit different size and often I would get one that wouldn't go through the guide, the guides would slip out of adjustment as well.
I thought about a woodchuck but the cost seemed out off line for what you get.
You can buy a $49 belt disc sanded from Harbor Freight, put a simple wood taper jig on it and taper shafts hassle free forever.
I just noticed someone is selling the belt sander guide jigs on ebay for $15.
