To each his own. Camo bows do not appeal to me at all nothing like a well made longbow with a good piece of myrtle or rosewood in the riser. I know for a fact camo of any kind is not nessecary for deer turkeys yes deer no jmo

I am not a big fan of camo bows but I see the advantages.

It only took ducks flaring from the shine off the barrels of my ruger red label shotgun twice before I sprayed it with auto primer for a base and striped it with olive drab and marsh brown.

Got lots of comments and looks at the skeet range but it worked for me.

If it works for you go for it.

All off my hunting bows have had at least the limbs camouflage painted. My Bear wood risers have the sheen rubbed out.

Depends on the bow, if its got purdy wood then why camo it?

If its a plain jain bow or a metal riser bow then why not.

I like CAMO bows and the natural wood grains . When it comes to hunting nothing is better than CAMO .

I would find a way to camo the bow that is easily removed. I may want to sell it someday. I for one don’t bother looking at camo bows for sale.

Au natural for me. I do have a camo beater bow for bowfishing.

A bow's appearance should please it's owner.

On compounds I'm fine with flat black or camo, though the brand mania of camo does irritate me, and if it is camo, then there comes the issue of whether it actually suits the owner's enviro.

My advice is that you sound like you want to take shortcuts, and that sits squarely on your reputation. I prefer making and experimenting with technicalities to finishing, but the public is 1-1 or even 2-1 in the opposite direction. Most people don't know a good bow from a hole in the ground, but they know a pretty bow.

You already have a problem with a free bow, as nothing kills the reputation of the product like not having had to pay for it, if on top of that it isn't eye shatteringly beautiful, then you are putting a lot of work into stuff people will say nice words about, but treat as trash. You would think that people will be happy just getting a free bow, but in the end it will be worth more if you do one every three weeks, or every month, but it is something everyone is dying to have.

That said, clear glass is not required. You can play in particular with vintage looks and get a premium for using regular glass and plain veneers.

I'd much rather have a bow that shoots good looks like a turd, than one that looks good and shoots like a turd.

I'll have to say, that '76er looks SWEET! They are butt ugly bows to begin with. Same with the Minuteman. Really nice spray job! Minuteman bows are nothing great to look at either. One of the reasons I bought the Bighorn is it comes with a very flat, light-muting finish. The wood colors just blend into the woods. No need to camo it.

Elkherder, looks good. Would much rather have a camo bow than all the light colored wood. Unasked for free advise is worth what you paid for it. Rreal nice looking bows.

elkherder- I like the looks of the bows. honestly sometimes I like simple, sometimes like camo. If you're going to do the black glass something that might look cool would be a black ebony gel stain(after a good prestain treatment) on the lighter wood. I think you could get some neat contrast with a gel stain on that light wood. You also can also get some reds and browns in a gel stain and you'd be surprised in the difference in Consistancy of a gel vs standard. I do love your camo though too! Cheers, and nice job!

BTW thanks NY Yankee, the 76er came out pretty good. It was pretty bright before.... I did a follow along thread on this site if interested "DIY Hydrodip Follow along". It's becomeing a camping/packing setup inspired by a couple Knifeguy did.

I like it, some don't , but I sure think this beats a bright fire engine red riser.

nice wood is its own camo. some great como jobs above !! someone on another thread took a sage ,sprayed it flat black striped it with tan strips about 4" apart... so simple but so effective.. where I hunt it would be almost invisible. not going to spray my bows but will stripe my black limbs...ron

40-50 years ago, I did camo a few of my bows. Have long since learned it's not necessary. (Well, maybe worth it if you hunt turkey without a blind.) I probably wouldn't buy a bow that's been camoed, because one can't see any flaws that might be under the camo.

I used to camo my bows, but in 79 I made threeBelcher style longbows with white glass. I used it because i wanted to use Urac and the only quilted glass I could get was white. I expected that deer would bolt at the sight of it and that turkey hunting would be impossible. To my surprise, neither the deer or the turkeys seemed to react much to it any different than any other motion. i hunted with a white glass bow this past season, one day I had 11 deer from a few feet to around 20 yards. I was sitting on a strap on tree seat that was tied to a post sized tree which was along side of a cedar. I drew on a buck, but had second thoughts and let down. None of the 11 deer even looked at me and a couple of yearlings were just a few feet from me. The reason I let down is because a doe was too close to my intended flight line. I think an animal reacts more to a human face that is staring at their eyes, I am not so sure that animals recognize a sliver of white as a threat. if going full camo increases your confidence, by all means go for it.

If your looking for a poll of pro camo bows say so if you want opinions that's what you'll get soooooooo. And I don't care what you think lol.

Camo doesn't bother me, but give me a flat black over anything but the pretty woods. I've rattle canned a few set ups, but since graduated to PlastiDip. That way the next owner can decide for themselves.

If you're going to be giving the bows away, do it however you want to. Folks will either appreciate them or not.

It depends on the bow and on the camo job. There are some pretty fugly bows out there and (almost) any camo job would look better. I mean, come on, you gotta be able to see the thing as nice looking right? At least, I do. Some can do a rattle-can job well, others make it look like a turd. Gotta love those dips though.

I like them. Back in the day (BC: Before the Compound) it was just matte OD green from a rattle can....on EVERYTHING we carried into the woods. Now I use natural colors and dyes on my homemade wood bows, and sometimes natures very best camo-snakeskin as a bow backing.

I have two bows and both of them are of natural camo one is mango on the limbs, and the other one is Phemobe on the limbs , they both look as natural in the woods as can be. I have found that anytime I tried to camo something, it looks as unnatural as can be. In some cases some camps look ape ugly. Camo is more to the liking of what man's eyes appeal to. I have been under the understanding if you going to the woods, you're going to find wood. And the best thing that hides inside woods is wood.

Just my lonely opinion, and like some say " your opinion don't count " Ok !

Opps...wrong bow. That's not the DAS. It's an HS Widow which came out pretty cool with the camo. Great bow.

I hate to tell someone that I think their babies ugly. Not for me>

I bought a used Darton that came with camo-glass. It was in great shape, but I could not sell that bow for any money, people would pull a nose at it. I gave it to a Leatherwaller. You maybe don't want to tell people their baby is ugly, some babies do look a little peculiar. Bear use to offer camo painted bows, I do not know of even one person that payed extra to get one.

I like camo bows- and I like pretty wood too. So to find my happy place, I just don't hunt with my pretty bows. I hunt pigs a lot, like once or twice a week, from the ground. And a nice, shiny bow is like carrying around a signal mirror. My more expensive bows, like my Monarch and A buffalo or two, only get shot in the yard. My hunting bows- X-200s and a Mamba, get a nice nice coat of camo. I'll post a picture from my phone after I go take one.
