Calling all CT, NY, NJ, MA and vicinity archers - 4/8 - Cos Cob CT Trad Only Shoot

Sunday, April 8, 8:00am - 3:00pm Cos Cob Archers in Cos Cob, CT will host its first (we hope annual) Traditional Only Hunters Shoot & Swap Meeting.

The newly designed course features over 40 targets. All stakes are true hunter style shots; 10-25 yards, shoot through and around obstacles, kneeing, sitting, etc. Each stake will have multiple target options. There are a number of targets developed especially for this shoot including; a running deer, a running boar, turkey in a tree, bear shot through a barrel, multiple knock-a-block targets, and a number of other novelty targets mixed in to keep things interesting! Have you ever seen Howard Hill shoot laying down!!!

And all for a $20 entry fee which includes a hot lunch. You can’t beat that boys! Shoot for hours, have lunch and head over to browse around the swap meet tables! Now that's a great day of traditional archery. We guarantee you will have a blast!

Please respond to post if you might be attending

For additional information PM our very own mcgroundstalker. Cos Cob Archers Trad Shoot Organizer

I'm told that parking has been a problem at this site in the past . Have promoters made plans to provide ample parking for what might be a well attended event ?

There will be ample parking for this event... Club members will direct you in that respect... If need be space can be used (across the road) as it was during the Police & Fire Games back in 2011...

Thanks for asking... Hope to see you there...

Just meet up at central middle school or one of the train stations - free parking on weekends - and car-pool from there if you’re concerned about it...

Just got weekends off, I'll be there!!

From: GF
Date: 11-Mar-18

Just getting arrows together....

What would you recommend in addition to FPs and a few Judos?

Flu-flus? Maybe some steel blunts?

I’m trying to make sure that I’ll have some that I can afford to lose, what with all the rocks leading up to that Ram up beyond the BH targets....

Haven’t figured out my hold from the 85 yard station quite yet....

From: mcgroundstalker
Date: 11-Mar-18

Field Points and some Judo's should cover it... The 3D course has been set-up with "Hunter Style" shots that are close in and challenging... Foam Blocks are at ten (10) 3D locations so use your Judo's or blunts there...

Most attending will likely focus on our 3D course... Some novelty targets are mixed in with the paper target back stops along the 3D set-up...

Be ready to have fun! Most of all, keep it safe...

Or me... Can’t keep Mike busy answering PMs - he’s got targets to set up!

Course Map.

This is a great time of year to visit the club... before the skeeters start hatching! And there will be live “music”, courtesy of the local Gobblers... so please make sure of your target ;)

From: DanaC
Date: 16-Mar-18

Just curious, will copies of that map vbe available to shooters?

I've copied it and will print myself one anyway.

From: mcgroundstalker
Date: 16-Mar-18

Yes, copies of the course map will be available at the clubhouse... Pick up one as you register... The 3D trail is easy to follow and has been clearly marked with (extra) yellow directional arrows just for this event...

Thanks for asking... See ya there!

From: GF
Date: 16-Mar-18

Survivors of Pat’s last blood trail challenge should note that North is (properly) UP on this map! LOL

I’m not sure about the scale, though… Based on the legend, you might think that number 24 is maybe 50 yards, tops… But you can air one out at 65 or 85 or even something close to 110 on that one. That’s where I figure we ought to do the testing on those flu flu’s… :D

Nick too bad you couldn't make the shoot. Mike and the rest of the Cos Cob crew put on a fantastic shoot. It was a fun course, with great food and a huge turnout. I would say over a hundred shooters. Hey Guys! I just wanted to pass on a thank you to all on behalf of Cos Cob Archers. The First Annual Hunters Shoot and Swap Meet was a huge success thanks to you all. We had 100+ archers attend, from CT, NY, NJ, MA and VT.

We received rave reviews on the courses and target set up. The swap meet was busy and we had a couple vendors attend. Master bow builder Frank San Marco and master trapper and quiver builder Ed Gorch. These guys do some fine work. From the posts it sounds like everybody had a great time and left with full stomachs and almost full quivers! That iron bear took it's toll! The organization gave the green light for another Trad Only Shoot possibly in September. Stay tuned! MCgroundstalker is already scheming!

One note to all, we dropped the ball on taking photos in the field. If anyone has any shots on the course can you please PM with. We’d like to get them up on the clubs Website and Facebook page.

Thanks again you guys! Looking forward to seeing you all again in September!
