Till gun season. That would kill most public land for archery bucks.

Mpdh, NAH!! Couldn't be!! Just read where Wisconsin might reign in there crossbow season as it didn't do what it was supposed to--bring more hunters into the fold--all it has done is shifted compound and rifle hunters to the crossbow.

Uh oh, looks like the poaching potential may be on the rise, quite possibly. There will be a lot of upset people... Hope that's not a trend that spreads elsewhere.

Ohio's division of wildlife has done a fine job of really messing up the herd in certain areas of the state. For several years they allowed 9 deer per to be taken- - if 8 of those are does that has a significant negative impact on next years numbers. Im not just posting on what ive read, i spend countless hours on my farm as well as other areas i hunt and have noted disappointingly low numbers. This year they announce a higher harvest than last year---i suspect padded numbers to help sell tags. They then announce reducing bag limits on public land-- these two scenarios really don't make sense. For years all they allowed was shotgun slugs-- back when the old pumpkin ball was the only shotgun load you dealt with accuracy and trajectory challenges. Now thirty years later when the state is much more populated they let people use rifles. We have a " primitive weapons" season that is predominantly inline scoped rifles that no longer must be loaded with black powder. I agree with reducing bag limits, but with this needs to include tighter restrictions on nuisance permits and real action to prevent spread of cwd from the pen raised deer operations that supply animals to the high fence contingent. I have reduced my personal harvest to suuport herd growth.

Why just public ? Yep more and more we are heading toward a European model of hunting.

It may not pass , but they are concerned with herd size
Ive been concerned for years.
So although it is a pain not to hunt that "magic time" for "horny" bucks, I just like hunting.
So If I kill a doe Im pretty stoked:)

Doesn't really mean that it will really fall in that perspective they change . Rut is widely misunderstood by all both hunters and game departments.
You have to actually be out in it to somewhat understand it and although it comes at the approximate timing it only really last a couple days.
Pre is better anyways if they screw with that's messed up.

Just looked at Ohio DNR website. It says only antlered deer after Dec. 2 on public. It means that if passed, you can’t shoot does after this date. Nothing changed about hunting bucks. Also says the proposal is meant to increase herd size. It’s all about does not bucks.

If it`s a "herd" issue why are they targeting the "breeders".

They are not targeting “breeders”. They are giving a pass to “bred” does on public land after December 2nd.

Gee Whiz, it's pretty simple... no antlerless deer on public ground after Dec. 2.
