The other injury thread went broad, involving poor health & nutrition. This one is specific. Shooting our T bows every day, it seems shoulder & tendon injury is common. I am in good shape, 53, pull #250 bucks 2 miles on a wheeled cart on public land, etc, but have an aggravating left shoulder with muscle knots that hurt when i shoot too much.

Look up muscle knots with your internet. Overuse is big cause. I use my one cam Pse smooth wheelbow in between to still shoot and give myself a break in between T bow shoots.

I bought this therapy ball ; a hard ball the size of a tennis ball. Bought at Wal Mart in the exercise section. You back up against the wall with the ball and stoop/stand back & forth and roll the ball over the knots.

It works great and almost instantly. But you must put that traditional bow down to rest that shoulder some.

Get a 'BowFit' and use it - on both sides. Imbalance can aggravate a condition. Also do some light exercise to strengthen the muscles around the joint in all directions. Vertical rows, bent rows etc.

I have a bum knee that I do not want to have replaced, so I keep it loose, and work to strengthen all the 'support' muscles that stabilize it.

'Rest' is one of the three corners of strength training, with proper exercise and good nutrition. A body builder will only work a muscle group every few days. Recuperation matters.

We all can stay in shape deep into our senior years with knowledge, nutrition, consistency and conditioning. Never Quit trying. Its all about the power of positive thinking and stepping away from the keyboard and screen! TLM

Find the most tender spot in the muscle then have your wife put her elbow on the spot and bear down hard. It will hurt so bad it will take away your breath and bring tears to your eyes but the results will be amazing. Have her work over the whole area with her elbow.

I sometimes lay back on a tennis back placed on the floor. It's not comfortable but it usually helps. Follow up with some ice for 15-20 minutes.

Sound like you need to stretch, big time, in addition to everything else. Those muscles will continue to scar up and shorten in minute(adj) increments otherwise. Also look at Neuro-lymphatic massage to get the lactic and other toxin buildup moving so your body can expel it. Up your water intake.

to comment on what Sailor said, I had the little 110# massage therapist lady at my chiropractor to get me a deep tissue massage, ONCE!! She used her elbows and I had tears running out.

Get some Coconut oil and rub it in the spot with some spray magnesium oil on the areas. That might help you.

One thing that works great for tight, knotted up muscles and fascia is a LaCrosse ball. Very dense/hard and they're about $2- 3 at a sporting goods store. You can use electrical tape to tape two together in a peanut type shape and it feels good to use on your thoracic spine.

Sounds like you have it under control and just need to keep on. You will have lots of internet doctors helping you out though. )

The key word was repetitive. I had a physical trainer for awhile, not for archery but for hiking, climbing, etc. He stressed I work a set of muscles one day and give them a days rest before exercising them agian. It becomes more of an issue as we age. But the routine of shooting say 50 arrows everyday will take its total more so as we age. Lowering bow weight helps but agian its that rest period that is important. I have been lucky so far, worst I have is a sore neck from my lousy form. The comment about the internet doctors is correct as well. I have no doubt the remedies mentioned work for that person. It’s our job to find what works best for our body.

Oh yes, I second the massages. But at $75 bucks a pop I have to pass. But the few I had felt oh so good.

There's 2 types of messages deep tissue and soft tissue. I can't take the deep I hate it.

Some love deep but I do not.

Acupuncture did not work for me when I had it done 4 times the injury was in the structure not the mussels when they tried it on me. I had the hip replaced eventually and that took away the issue I was having from an accident. Had to elevate the underlined issue that was the cause of the pain.
