It's the winter doldrums. Let's see some of those old bow ads from the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's. Quivers, arrows, and broadheads as well.

Bob Bitner was a friend of my dad's. I spoke with him last summer about my dad's passing.
I have adds in magazines back to 1949 but not in a position to post them right now.

Good stuff. Interesting that I've seen two different manufacturers claiming "Fastest", and Damon Howatt had two bows over 200 fps. One at 200 fps with a10 gpp+ arrow, and one at 215 fps at a lower gpp arrow. One thing hasn't changed - bow makers today are still selling "stable", "accurate", and "fast". Lol
Keep them coming.

I do remember the one from Bear with the gifted young lady,I do not remember it being posted very long and if I'm not mistaken I think it was in a Playboy magazine.

So the topless Bear ad calls archery the “second most challenging sport”...what do you suppose they were referring to as the first most challenging one?
Women? :)

FYI I just gave away a large stack of hunting magazines dated from 1920-1940. They were really cool but made me sneeze and itch to go thru them. Of note: In the entire stack I only found one ad for bows- L.E. Stemmler and Co. 1927.

So, fred Bear sees a film featuring Art Young hunting "Alaskan Adventures." A quick search suggests that Young shot the film in Alaska in 1922-1923. I watched the film, stamped 1926. In any event, there sure didn't appear to be much in the way of commercially produced bows/arrows for sale to the masses before 1940.

There are times when I have had the opportunity to teach some youth about archery. I have encouraged some to look up this site because it can be very informative for a newcomer.
I enjoy the history of archery, so I was looking at the pictures of old advertisements this morning when there was posted ads of bare breasted ladies. Can't we have an archery site without this kind of trash?

There was a Field and Stream or one of those Mag's from the early 70's that had a guy at full draw with a recurve on a bull elk at close range I wish I could have kept. That pic alway's charged me up and even inspired me to bow hunt elk. Anyone happen to recall or have that Mag cover?

“Hopefully this one isn't offensive”
JMO, a pic of a bare-breasted woman isn’t nearly as offensive as referring to bow-hunting as the “2nd most challenging sport”. I’m teaching my sons better than that. Or doing my best, anyway.
Love the pics of the old bows from when they were new!
