Well, it's February already. WOW!

And if the road you live on is still passable, with all the potholes and ice chunks along the berm, then use that road to take you to the "Strictly Sticks Traditional Archers" regular Traditional 3D shoot, in Alverton, Pennsylvania, next Sunday, February 18!

That we know of, we're not hosting another "SPAM" shoot, nor is some TV or Movie celebrity showing up to do trick shots across Nuclear Creek. Nah, this month we've notched things back to our NORMAL state of shooting existence, where our Friends and Guests are the ones creating all the fun and buzz!

Whether you are the classic Traditional Bowhunter hoping to fill the freezer next fall, or your appreciation lies more in challenging field-style Target Archery using a classic, vintage bow, we invite all of you to join us, if your schedules permit.

As for any Archery event conflicts, both Compton's-Pittsburgh AND Seneca Archers "Shoot For The Cure" Open-shoot take place THE WEEKEND AFTER OUR SHOOT! And on the telly, it will probably be ice dancing again for the Olympics. (Hmmmm....ice dancing with recurves.....)

Ya know.......you COULD make this "Sticks" shoot your own Winter Olympic Game of sorts, should you choose some specific challenge within your regular shooting group: maybe highest number of arrows lost buys a plate of fries to share, or, robin hooding an arrow gets an "I found this rusted aluminum arrow so you can have it" kind a award. These are just possibilities and suggestions. Whatever YOU decide....hey, it's YOUR day with the bow and arrow!!!!

We just provide the place and opportunity, complete with life-size foam animal targets. Heck, maybe you'll see you shadow, maybe not. Winter is here, may as well make the best of it.

Sunday, February 18, 2018, from 8 AM until 1 PM. Remind yourself. Tell your shooting buddies. Invite that new Archer to ride along,or meet up with you down at the club. Just keep your fingers and toes crossed for acceptable weather for both Sunday and the preceding Saturday (our set-up day): we will gratefully appreciate it!

And hopefully, by then, those pothole monsters won't have grown too much more!

Until then, and as always, THANK YOU !!, from The Crew of "Strictly Sticks"

Any MMM going?

Hawkeye, with so many "Maple Mountain Men" up there along the ridges, you'd think a few of them might be coming over!!! But a couple of them are so, so far back, that their internet service is probably a "J. H. Bunnell" Railroad Telegraph Sounder tapping American Morse really fast, but not fast enough for Archery events to be relayed. Sad, I guess...

But, I wouldn't worry too much. Methinks they get information from other secret sources, 'cause just enough of them DO make it down ridge to make the events fun.

My guess is Gnome has a lot to do with it: they have ways and means beyond my comprehension.

Speaking of comprehension, it's been pointed out to me that the Seneca Shoot is NOT the weekend following this Sunday's "Sticks" shoot, but in MARCH!! My error in getting the months mixed up, with apologies to "Seneca Archer", if you read this.

I'll be standing by: those Maple Boys ears are probably a-twitchen, and one of 'em is bound to chime in....

"MMM" = Manly Mountain Men

If you're gonna pick on us at least get the name right.

And yes, there will be representation from the MMM. Chief will be chasing yotes but will be with us in spirit.

The hog hunters are hoping for some practice before our hunt. Maybe put out some extra pigs for us. Maybe an armadillo if you got one. :)

I stand corrected, Sir Red Beastmaster.

By order of the sportsmen's club, some of those evil shot-to-heck-and-back piggies were sold off, back at the 2-Day shoot, and some to the compounders. However, when we get in the cave, we'll see what's there, and maybe rustle up what we can for ya.

Sorry to hear Chief will only be with us in Spirit, but a yoting he must go. Iffn you, Mr. Perfect, Klondike, Gnome (how's young Willy been? Off at school??), Tim... iffn any of you are able, the shoot's always that much more fun!

I'm going to try to wrestle the Steel Wolf from his den, if he cooperates. He gets mad when we interrupt his hibernation.

Looking forward to seeing yinz all, if even for a few minutes as you pass by me, heading to the burger stand!!!!!!!

BTW: has the tapping begun yet? I was asked; I did not know, but told the person "I know someone who knows...."

From: Red Beastmaster

Tapping was weeks ago. Now its "sugarin' time". Collecting, cooking, making syrup and candy.

HC, my buddy at work has a small family camp. Want me to get you some syrup? (12.50/qt) I can bring it to the shoot.

Red, we actually have a supply this year. A previous coworker of my father's set him up, and there are a good handful of quarts in the cupboard.

You have given me an idea, though, which we might incorporate into a shoot sometime. On the same idea as the SPAM shoot.. I'll be in thinking mode on this, and will talk with you Sunday!

Yummmmm! Maple Syrup!!!!

Using the phrase "tapping" in conjunction with MMM? Just say'n. Guess ya gotta be there.

Metikki will probably be there. Maybe kin, Dale, will come along too!

They usually don't serve hot dogs, Scott.

Funny.....

Hey: JUST AN OBVIOUS "HEADS UP":

Wear/bring suitable muck/mud/water boots. There is an awful lot of water down this neck of the woods, after the last couple days, and with what's still expected. We are concerned.

We will do our best to create a course that avoids any flat areas where ponding can occur, so that might mean a pathway following a hillside.

THe "meadows" is probably a "no go"; it swamps up the quickest.

So: attend with an "open mind" and properly attired feet.

Now just keep yer fingers crossed that it stops raining....

We thank you.....

Mucks, hip or chest waders doesn't matter. STICKS puts on a FINE and FUN shoot. Bring your feather dry. If you leave without a smile than you didn't shoot hard enough.

From: Shortdraw

Oh, and the kitchen crew does a Fine job as well. Even they don't happen to serve hot-dogs. :)

I haven't seen you shoot anything but the bull at Sticks in years. How about bringing your bow this time.

From: DaleHajas
Date: 17-Feb-18

That sounds like a chalkenge!

From: Shortdraw
Date: 17-Feb-18

I was there last year Red. We sat around your 3 alarm bonfire. Haven't yet made one this year but ya never know. Besides, I like my feathers dry. Maybe I'll shoot vanes!

Will Metikki be there even if there are no hot-dogs?

From: HARRY CARRY

Folks, a 30+ target course has been set up. As we were finishing, around 2:50 PM, a snow band started up. Much to our dismay.

So: just make your own decisions about traveling. We have no idea where all this snow is hitting, nor how much will be put down.

The Crew will be there, even if it turns out to be a skeleton crew. We can tell you that the course is all on the area across the road....nothing is on the clubhouse side. We were able to get quad access for the entire course; there was some ponding here and there, but no gushing open creeks.

This was all before the snows hit!

So: it's up to you. As of 6:24 PM Saturday evening, the shoot is NOT cancelled. Use YOUR best judgement!

And: we THANK YOU, whatever your decision!

Harry...now Metikki and Shortdraw have an excuse for not showing....again:^)

On nights like this, it's GOOD to hear the plow and salt trucks! Safe travels, EVERYONE (and me, too)...

issues with my mother. Cant attend. Hope you get a decent crowd today girls :)

From: HARRY CARRY

Hey, THANK YOU to the 63 registered Archers and the folks who came to kabbitz and have a sandwich with friends. The snow at the club stopped after midnight, and the township and state plow and salters had the roads passable in time. And, during the course of the shoot, the sun came out and the melting began. Folks from up Kennerdale north and out east near Greencastle stopped by, and from the positive comments, the Crew must have done something right!!!!

We appreciate EVERYONE who took time from their schedules to visit, and we appreciate EVERYONE who could not attend today, because we know that the future holds more opportunities to get together with our bows and arrows.

Metikki, I can fully relate....FULLY...

Keep MARCH 18, 2018 in mind. It's the final single-day 3D shoot of the Winter 2017-2018 schedule. All paying Archers will enjoy a buffet lunch, as thanks from The Crew.

Hope our paths cross then!
