I d like to attend , I be flying from California , can someone suggest, what would be the best airport to fly into ?

From: Jim Casto Jr
Date: 30-Jan-18

rbatect,

You'd probably be best off to fly into Yeager Airport in Charleston, WV. You still be about 1:45 from Pipestem.

There's a smaller airport in Beckley, WV, which would be about 40 minutes from Pipestem, but you'd need to check flights and costs in comparison to Yeager.

Date: 30-Jan-18

Thanks Jim for responding to rbatect's question. I was also thinking Charleston.

I'm planning on going. It'll be cooler than Twin Oaks for sure!

From: Clydebow
Date: 31-Jan-18

Nancy and I will be there. Already have reservation at a lodge.

Lee, I'm sure when you say "cooler" you are mean the weather! LOL!

From: longshot
Date: 01-Feb-18

Lol! Definitely the weather. This year on Sunday at Twin Oaks I checked the weather at Pipestem Park... 65°. Twin Oaks is a spectacular piece of property though, that's for sure.

From: Susquehannabum

I plan on going. Is the Mckeever lodge the closest to the actual shoot?

From: Lost arrow
Date: 05-Feb-18

Only two lodges in the park and some cabins. The McKeever is the largest. The other lodge is accessible only by the aerial tramway. If the event is held in the same area as previous archery events, the McKeever would probably be the best.

From: Clydebow
Date: 05-Feb-18

That must be where we are staying, because Nancy didn't consider the one with the tram!

50 pts higher! Dream on Kurt!

From: Trillium

After last year's "Twin Oaks Death March" (115 degree heat index...) I'm ooking forward to a weekend in the mountains!!!

From: ModernLongbow
Date: 05-Feb-18

I plan on going. Went to Tennessee last year, that one was awesome other than the raging heat. Made top 10 im MLB but might shoot recurve this year so we shall see if i can make the third day. Some pretty amazing shots out there i know that.

Maybe I'm odd, but I never remember the extreme heat or cold when I think back to going to great shoots. Only remember the get together's with everyone and fun shooting. Then someone will remind me that we sweated or butts off, or that the campground flooded that year. Then I do remember!

From: Clydebow
Date: 05-Feb-18

Kurt, Nancy checked and we are staying at Mckeever lodge.

Meant to ad, in a room, not a cottage.

I plan on going , will be first for me.

From: Clovis6

Have never done anything with IBO. Do I need to do a state IBO shoot to qualify?

From: hammer08
Date: 05-Feb-18

It's a possibility for me. Only 4 hours from home.

From: Jim Casto Jr
Date: 05-Feb-18

"Have never done anything with IBO. Do I need to do a state IBO shoot to qualify?"

Nope, not for the traditional shoot. Just come and shoot.

From: Clydebow
Date: 06-Feb-18

Kurt, If a group is going a cottage might be the way to go, but I think you have to reserve them for the entire week.

From: rbatect

I have a stupid question but I d like to ask for those who may have some knowledge ,,,,,, what is the humidity like in WV in July ? thanks

From: Lost arrow
Date: 06-Feb-18

rbatect , you're not asking a stupid question but I may be giving a stupid answer. I think the average mid - day is probably around 80 % or so in July. Maybe a knowledgeable person may chime in with more accurate information.

From: Shotkizer

Not a criticism, kinda in the middle of nowhere. Is that the norm for IBO Worlds?

Nowhere? Gee Whiz! It's only about 18 miles from the metropolis of Princeton, WV.

:^)

"Not a criticism, kinda in the middle of nowhere. Is that the norm for IBO Worlds?"

For years about about 15 minutes from Clarksville TN., and then for a couple years 10 minutes from Cloverdale Ind and 45 minutes from Indianapolis. So no.

One of the requirements of the club hosting the shoot is there has to be hotels and such near the shoot location.

11 hour drive, but I really want to go. Thinking...

From: Shotkizer
Date: 11-Feb-18

lol, I guess I deserve that. I was in the area last year and ended up driving because flying involved renting a car. It's beautiful country, should be a heck of a shoot!

From: Clydebow
Date: 11-Feb-18

Kurt, I would think so. Maybe check their site for any changes.

From: Lost arrow
Date: 13-Feb-18

I know you can find this info on the internet but I will throw this out. May help someone. Within 1/2 mile of the Princeton WV exit on I - 77 is the following. Country Inn & Suites, Days Inn, Fairfield Inn and Suites, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Microtel, Quality Inn and Sleep Inn. Several chain restaurants and most fast food establishments. And of course Walmart.
