I am so excited about my wife's birthday present. We were shopping in town today and stopped at a pet store. Long story short she fell in love with this puppy. She named her Bailey and she is a black lab. I would normally never buy a dog from a shop for personal reasons. My wife doesn't ask for much so we bought her. I don't know if you have ever just saw a dog and knew it was special but this is that dog. I can't wait to get her to the woods and start or friendship. I just wanted to share thank you for reading. Lab are great dogs. You sound like me , my wife doesn't ask for much but when she does I make sure she gets it. We have 2 dogs, a miniature Rat Terrior that is 14 lb named Dixie And a Great Pyrenees that is 130 lb named Simba. Both very smart and great addition to the family. I think more of that little dog than I do most people.

My dad always said that his kids were part Labrador. Maybe because I never had a home-cooked meal without a few hairs in it ‘til I was out of college!

In a family of six, the dog belongs to everybody, but “My” Lab was Peg. Great call name, great dog.

Best commands we ever taught her:

Go see ____________. (She knew everybody’s name.)

Go play in the sprinkler. (Good idea on a hot day.)

Rest! (She’d chase balls for hours!)

and....

Stay dry! (She loved to splash in the creek, but she’d jump it when I told her to; saves a LOT of baths!!)

You can’t go wrong with a black lab. I grew up with one in our neighborhood, back before leash laws. Her name was “Trina”, and she followed us around, always ready to join in with whatever we were doing. Great memories. Wishing your Wife a Happy Birthday.

Just a word of caution... Train your pup to stay while you're shooting. My little Jack Russell, Zip chased an arrow that i shot into our ponds dam. She hit the nock end of the cedar arrow and snapped it in two. She fell to the ground and acted hurt, but thank God she was ok. Arrows are pointy at both ends... She still cringes when she sees me with arrows. Congrats on your new pup, looks like a good one.

In addition to winning field trials, he'll retrieve your water fowl and upland hunt, with Ditch Parrots being his favorite. He will also sniff out an arrow for you provided it has feather fletching, vanes you are out of luck.

Thank you Calvin, he is the best dog that I have ever owned. He has done a lot for such a young dog and is enjoying his second year of retirement at 6 y/o. As a FC/AFC his job is to enjoy life and entertain the females. He looks forward to his pancake and sausage every Sunday.

Here's my stumpin' buddy Jake the day we brought him home. He was given to us by a lady who was very allergic to his coat. Half Lab-half Golden Retriever. Maniac arrow retriever, death on pheasants, easiest dog to train I've ever had.

He's 8 yrs old now. Love them with all your heart. They'll give you unconditional love and companionship that goes beyond words.

Me and my Three Amigos. Jake, next to me, is my tracker. Mille, smaller JRT, would be a great tracker but is so small I think a snake bite would be fatal to her. Wilson, the big guy, is just a loveable family pet. I found him abandoned as a puppy.

Abby was my best Bud for 14 yrs. Still miss that dog.
