Ah, snow, and ice, and plummeting temperatures, and slick roads, and grimy trucks and cars, and .... people generally sick of all this crap. So, what can ya do?

"GO SHOOT YOUR BOW DOWN AT 'STICKS'!!" is what you can do!

Here's how: scrape the ice off your windshields, WD40 the keylocks, warm up the insides, and if you are lucky to have one, turn on the rear defroster.

Then, place your recurve or longbow, heck even your selfbow inside the warmed up vehicle. Add a handful of arrows. Attire yourself in Woolrich, or Helly Hanson, or UnderArmor, a good pair of boots, and gloves. Now, get inside that vehicle, and aim it towards Alverton, Pennsylvania, and put the gear in "drive". BUT:

Make sure you are doing this next Sunday, January 21, for a target time of 8 AM. !!!!!!!!!

Why? Because, it's the "SPAM SHOOT"!!!!!!

If you think any of The Crew has any clue what next Sunday's weather will be like, we'd like to talk with you about lottery numbers. All we know is that the Annual "Strictly Sticks Traditional Archers" "SPAM SHOOT" is next Sunday, and by gum, we've got the SPAM, AND YOOHOO, ready for 3 lucky, random winners.

So, you may ask, what's the deal with SPAM and Yoohoo?

Well, we'll simply answer with "WHY NOT?"

What started as a competitive shoot years ago has morphed into something that requires no competition, no strategy, no gamesmenship, no abilities or proficiencies whatsoever. Just your willingness to stop over, meet up with your friends both old and new, and have some Traditional Archery fun over a hillside or two.

Yep, 3 random folks, from all the registered Archers, will be selected to take home their awards of SPAM and Yoohoo.

All while participating and shooting in the areas most unique place of Traditional Archery 3D courses. Are we Compton's? Are we Denton Hill? Are we Baltimore?

NO!!!! We are "Sticks", and we ARE Alverton!

So, there you have it: the premise for the shoot on Sunday, January 21, 2018, from 8 AM until 1 PM. Unknown weather. Shooting stickbows. Meeting up with folks you know, and folks who will soon become your friends. Cheering for great shots. Cheering louder for those evil, nasty shots that you totally buggered up. SPAM. And Yoohoo.

Sometimes, it's good to be "the Little" shoot, when compared to our "big brother shoots".. !!!

Craig, I'm not sure what part of Pennsyltuckey you're from, but please consider yourself invited! And, if it's just too far, or not feasible, then shoot with us in-spirit, by taking your bow out on Sunday morning, and setting up a target behind the "V" of a tree's base. And have fun with the shot!

That photo is EXACTLY what you'd encounter on Sunday, Craig!! You've got the spirit of "Sticks"!

SS is not the place to take your best arrows.

That is the reason their shoots are so popular. Always different, always challenging, always fun.

Compounders wouldnt like shooting a Sticks course. :)

Theres going to be 3" of snow on the ground so I doubt the Maple City Metro Men won't show.......maybe Urac tach will be there? Who's cookin the Breakfast?

Metikki, Dave's been handling the breakfasts for a long while now...you know, Dave...in the kitchen...dark haired guy...that Dave. Sometimes Boobacker is in there, too; sometimes Scary Mike is in there.

They keep me OUT of the kitchen, posted at the registration table. Something about food disappearing when their backs are turned....

As for snow: Armageddon Eleven is predicting....get this...a warming trend towards the end of the week. Probably means rain instead of snow. Who knows? Gotta believe Armageddon Eleven.....

From what I've gathered, though, those Maple City Mountain Men...some of them traded their Yugos for 6-WHEEL DRIVE rigs.... that's right...6-wheel drive. Heard they've been tearing up fields and farms and the desolate section of "219 To No Man's Land" like they're driving rental cars...

This weekend: such potential, all depending on who walks through the door.

RC: let Boobacker know I still have the "3 mason jars" down cellar, from a year or two ago. Let him know that they help keep the Other Voices content and happy, though not for much longer.....

And it's confirmed: one of The Voices procured the SPAM and YooHoo, so as long as the Others of Us remember to bring it, all should be good Sunday.

Still don't know whether to trust Armageddon Eleven's forecast....

Well, the good news from all this is we are no longer subjected to RC's "Pass Thru Breakfast"! Sounds like progress. Baby steps.

Red - actually Im working on bringing a guest and some of his family. Hes a young feller thats quite sick, but gettin better and hes a bowhunter. I'll bring him if I can arrange it. He likes bows... He would also like the comedy of arrahs:)

MJ told me to get the hell out of her hair and go shoot lol Imagine.....who wouldnt want to hang around with ME? Like shes tired of me? It dpends on how she feels as well, shes coming home from the hospital hopefully tomorrow. Theres just one hayl of alot goin on right now, but it is my intention to 10 everything.....

scot520, glad you are considering attending! If you do make it, we'll try to introduce you to the folks you see posting here. Kinda like the old "CB Radio" days, where you try to imagine what the person you've been chatting with is like....well, this will be pretty much the same!

Once you meet the Archers who attend "Strictly Sticks Traditional Archers" events, there's the strongest of chances that you'll be friends with them after!

It does not appear that I will make the shoot. MaryJo is too early in her recovery to leave her for that amount of time. I may step out for an hour to push some bunny rabbits behind the house instead.

THe course is set up....around 30 PLUS targets. Both sides of the road, using a little bit of imagination and some new territory.

Hey scot520: Thank YOU for joining us today! Glad to meet you, and glad you enjoyed the shoot. Yes, we'll be "back" February 18, for our next single-day 3D shoot.

You were one of the AT LEAST 75 Traditional Archers who signed up to shoot today! The Crew was amazed when we realized the parking lot was filling up....we really thought that the sportsmen's club might have scheduled something else going on!

The "random SPAM and YOOHOO" prizes were awarded, but we think that a fairly acceptable day was the reason so many folks came on over to shoot. Cabin Fever these last few weeks will do that to the best (or worst) of us! 48degrees felt like a summer day today!!

There's a good write up, and pictures from today's event starting to show up on the Facebook page "Strictly Sticks Traditional Archers", so I invite you and everyone else to take a gander over there.

And Scot, keep in mind that The Crew and Friends shoot pretty much every Thursday evening inside the building, at the Bales you saw at the end of the room. We also shoot a video DART system. Thursdays, from around 6 PM until around 8/8:30 PM, depending on who's locking up. A good mix of shooting, and socializing about Archery and whatever else we get into while shooting.

You are most welcome to stop over! And anyone else reading this is also most welcome! (Iffn the weather is downright nasty, and all of us know the mountain YOU deal with every day, we might cancel a Thursday now and then...)
