I am a fan of the tape. I feel it really speeds the process up. However I was wondering if the dispenser they sell at three rivers is a good addition Let me know

NO SIR! It's a waste of time. Just something else to spend money on. I'd just keep doing it like I have been for the last 15 years.

I bought one thinking that it would help too! It didn't, so I just went back to doing it by hand. Lance.

Thanks- almost pulled the trigger for that one myself a couple times, but just had the feeling it was an unnecessary annoyance to spend money on.

There used to be a video of a fellow using fletch tape. It is the best way of installing it IMO. Maybe some one can post a link on it. Lloyd

The right tweezers is key. And feeling for the edge of the backing; subtle tricky bit, kind of a- (wait for it...) INSTINCTIVE feel. Not kidding, once I'm tuned in, peeling the backing off goes very smooth and I can fletch a dozen in less than an hour. 3 fletch, not 2 or 4. And Turkey feathers, not Goose!

X 2 what GF said. Having a hard time getting separation of backing from tape. I usually twist the ends and it's a cinch. Love the stuff but Three Rivers will usually gointo overdrive in selling gimmicks that are in most case not needed. JMO.

I cut the leading edge of the tape off at a sharp angle and then stick it down to the clamp after I apply it to the quill. Then, I just scrape lengthwise on the pointy end of the backing with a knife and it lifts right up. I get it started and then lay my thumb on it and peel it off. I leave 1/8" overhang so I can get hold of the backing. I trim any unwanted excess off with my knife before applying a drop of glue on the leading and trailing edge.

For the dispenser are you guys talking about the newest version of it? They had a short lived one that was pretty bad. The latest version works better, and works the best if you can mount it to a workbench. I wish it had a feature for cutting the tape after getting it on a fletch though.

Keep the tape cool and sealed in a ziploc when not in use and prepare the surfaces well. I run a cottonball dampened with denatured alcohol along the quill of the fletching once it is in the clamp. Then I take a lighter and ignite the alcohol from the quill. A brief small flame ensures the quill is dry and oil free. If the flame lasts longer than a brief moment I simply blow it out. I have had lost arrows rot, but eventually when found the fletching quill remained intact and attached.

I use the tape without the dispenser. The way I put me tape on is, place the fletch in the clamp. Apply the tape to the quill and cut it off with a pair of small sewing scissors. II then take the edge of the scissors and run them along the quill setting the tape to the quill. You can see the red tape change to a lighter color when it is all pressed down on the quill. Then I use the point of the scissors to lift the end of the backing from the tape. Then apply the fletch to the shaft and press it down firmly after removing the clamp. I had an arrow in a tree for 3 years without the feathers coming off. The arrow in the tree is another story but it was a good test.
