Wouldn't miss it! Nancy was asking about the date.

From: Jim Davis
Date: 31-Dec-17

Plan to be there. Have a little Casita trailer like Bob Mayo has. Where will you put me?

Jim Davis (Reparrows)

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 01-Jan-18

I don't know Jim but will find a spot. I need to know the size of your set up. Pappy

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 02-Jan-18

Kurt , always good seeing you. Had a great time with you and your brother last year at elm Hall. Clyde I will have your spot ready, always a pleasure to see you and Nancy and that grand son of yalls. Pappy

From: eddie c
Date: 02-Jan-18

I marked that time off from work a couple of weeks ago. they try to have our inventory audited during that time so I got with my boss and scheduled off. seriously thinking about doing the selfbow challenge this year.

From: Jim Davis
Date: 02-Jan-18

Pappy, I sent you a PM with this same info, so it doesn't get buried in the responses:

I don't need to have a different spot if I can just park my Ranger and the 16' Casita out the back of the shed where I was last year beside Chad's BCI setup. The flute folks did it the same way a couple of years back. (That's what got me interested in Casita trailers.)

From: Pappy 1952

That is great new Eddie, I think you would enjoy that.I got it Jim, all good , see ya in May. Pappy

Date: 04-Jan-18

Pappy if I lived closer I d be there, your site is one of my favorites , I attended the IBO a few years ago at your site and loved it !

Archers if you haven t been to Twin Oaks , it should be on your archery bucket list.

Richard (in Calif)

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 05-Jan-18

Thanks Richard, glad you enjoyed it. Wished you were closer but understand. The IBO was great fun but the Classic is like a big family reunion with a shoot thrown in the middle of it.Lots of camping/cooking/shooting/flint napping and bow building going on and usually some very good vendors to get your supplies from. Just a great overall time had by all. Pappy

From: Drewster

Good Lord willing and the Creek don't rise, I'll be there with a bunch of others from Carolina Traditional Archers.

Terry Harris

From: Clydebow
Date: 07-Jan-18

Drewster, If you've ever been there during a good rain storm, you would know that creek can rise! Yet, its still great to be there!

From: Drewster
Date: 07-Jan-18

Yes Clydebow, the creek is the campground does indeed rise with a good rain, but that old saying refers to the Creek native American tribe.....so I've learned :-)

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 07-Jan-18

Yep the creek can rise for sure, heard that saying all my life and never knew when it came from. Cool, Well I am pretty sure they aren't going to rise so we will see you there Drew.We had a lot from the east last year and also FL.Really appreciated that' it helped the event to be a great success. Usually get a bunch from west of the Miss. but last year with all the flooding many couldn't get there and the Northeast/Southeast and south made the difference. Thanks for that. Pappy

From: Bentstick54
Date: 11-Jan-18

I was there for my 1st time 2 years ago. Spent 5 days and honestly never had a better time anywhere. Will not make it this year but someday will be back. Lille of years I hope to retire and it might get easier to get away. When I was there I bought a leather side quiver from a vendor but cannot remember his name. I love it and keep getting asked about it. Can anyone help me with the gentlemans contact info. Thanks in advance, Brian

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 12-Jan-18

Was he from Oklahoma ? Lots of folks selling quivers, if you can narrow it down or give me an idea where he was set up I can figure it out and get you the info.Yep Terry time does fly. Pappy

From: Bentstick54
Date: 12-Jan-18

Pappy, I could. Be mistaken but I thought he was from Tennessee. I think that's all he was selling was a 4 arrow and a 6 arrow side quiver.

From: otis
Date: 12-Jan-18

Sounds like Art Vincent. He does excellent work.

David

From: otis
Date: 12-Jan-18

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Classic. It's a great shoot, or as Pappy says, a family reunion with a shoot thrown in. Hope you're doing well Kurt.

David

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 14-Jan-18

Yes Art is from Tennessee and sets up in front of the cabin between the cabin and the bridge. He sell a lot of quivers of all kinds. If you think that is him let me know and I will send you his info.See ya soon David/Kurt. Pappy

From: Bentstick54
Date: 14-Jan-18

Pappy; Art Vincent could be right on my quiver: I think that is where he was set up now that you mention it. No hurry but would love to have his contact info. If you prefer you can send me a PM. Thanks Brian

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 15-Jan-18

I will get you the info, Art is a great guy and makes some beautiful stuff. Pappy

From: Bentstick54

Been shooting a bow for 60 years and as a kid was dragged to shoots every weekend so I have been to a lot of them. As an adult I select the shoots I want to go to. As long as I can remember back this shoot is one of the BEST. Pappy and the gang do an OUTSTANDING job putting on this shoot and making everyone feel right at home.

It is a bucket list event.

Yes Jon we caught a few, about 60 or 70 I think, can't remember the name of the lake, we fished 3 different ones over the few days I was there. From: Clydebow

Is there a hotel/ motel or other lodging nearby?

From: Pappy 1952
Date: 19-Feb-18

Yes go to our web site. [twinoaksbowhunters.org] and their is a list of local motels and #'s for them. That's great Kurt, we have an open shoot the 3rd weekend of March, it is open to all but we always a larger number of Traditional folks, usually out number the compound folks by quite a few, that is pretty cool for a change, and yes we are in the clean and straighten mode now and things are looking pretty good from the winter mess. My question,is this just Fri-Sun or can you get there earlier. We have a tent and truck to camp in.

Hello, it has been a long-time since I've been on this forum, but I now live in Nashville and am getting back into trad archery. Was about to order a bow on- line, but I just realized this event is in my backyard and this week! I obviously don't plan to shoot, but I would love to look at and handle some bows, get pointers, and possibly buy and get set-up with someone who knows what they are doing. I'm guessing that this would be the place to be for that?

From: MississippiBelle

Yes, head over to the Classic and you will be like a kid in the candy store with the assortment of traditional bows available to try out....you like the curved bed riser recurve bows of the 70s made by Bighorn? Stop in and see Steve Kitchens on the cabin porch, he has several....the other vendors set up has their custom and trade-in bows....so get there early enough to whet your appetite of trying several bows...good luck and I almost guarantee you will make the Twin Oaks club's activities a part of your Nashville experience....Buck Hollow Bowhunters over in the Dickson area is another venue you will want to check out...they are camped at the Classic all weekend...

From: Bentstick54
Date: 04-May-18

Josh, definitely go visit at Twin Oaks this weekend. You will be overwhelmed I think. Allow lots of time, you won't find better people and vendors, plus they ha e 3D practice range set up so you can shoot for fun if you want, or try out some bows while you are there. You can't go wrong.

Wife, daughter and I got there last weekend. Had a great time. Bought a roughed out Osage blank, went to rasping and scraping. Enjoyed every bit of it, even shooting in the rain on Saturday. Met new friends, talked to old ones. Waiting for next year.

Rain it did and I learned some valuable lessons from it...

Wet strings are not the same as dry strings. Using the index feather on your nose is a loser if it is gets wet. Never laugh at your buddy that just fell down in the mud. Well, at least until you are on dry ground - lol. Karma has does not play favorites.

Thanks again!

I want to share this awesome selfbow made for me by a friend in TN. I picked it up at the TN Classic. He’s a very talented and accomplished selfbow maker in the selfbow breeding grounds of Twin Oaks Bowhunters. There is a ton of knowledge there and they share it freely. It’s there for the asking.

This bow has a lot of sentimental value in it. For several years I visited Twin Oaks for the IBO World Championship. The wood came from that property, it’s 9-10 years old. Shawn chased the ring and Pappy (Mark B.) cut the outline. Shawn then floor tillered the bow, and continued to scrape and tiller like a madman to get to around 43@28. He left it at around 45# because selfbows lose some after they are shot in. He then put some deer antler nocks on it, also harvested in TN. Shawn also carved that grip and shelf and “put a little flip (reflex) in the bow. No hand shock and so quiet it’s scary.

There is another reason the bow is special, Shawn and I have an Army background, and the writing on the bow is all Army related. (See pics) I’m blessed to have this bow and blessed with great friends! I was invited to stay at Shawn’s home, I was welcomed with warm greetings and treated like a king by him and his wonderful wife. It was a trip I’ll never forget, and I’m honored to share this with you all.

If there is a better trad shoot in the country, I’ve never been to it. This is my first TN Classic and won’t be my last. With 570+ registered traditional shooters and tons of vendors, and of course the hospitality of Twin Oaks, it’s a fantastic event! Twin Oaks also smoked 11 venison shoulders and fed us free, with potluck sides and desserts, all prefaced by prayers. That club will always be my favorite and for good reason.

Thank you to Shawn and his wife, and Twin Oaks for setting the bar in Trad shoots!

P.S. it’s a shooter!
