WOW. It is a looker for sure. I had not noticed the coin into the lam until ya'll pointed that out... I like the coins, Even with it in the riser could that still cause a problem? Essentially nothing is flexing or moving there, though the laminations are undoubtedly being stressed tip to tip? Have to think maybe they all will not be that way? Just to inexperienced to know these things first hand.

I am sure the structural integrity is not compromised by the coin into the lams. It is just so horribly wrong on such a nice bow at that price. The writing is also terrible but I can get past that, maybe. This bow should be flawless, that bow should have went into the wood chipper and never left the factory. This lack of attention to detail is not acceptable. IMO

What makes you think all of them will have the coin set into the lam like that one? Looks like an easy fix with just an eight of an inch move. Ten years ago, half the population here whined that Bear wouldn't introduce the old bows, now we're already complaining about them. Call Neil Byce and see if that is what all of them will be...regarding the coin. I bet not.

I spent a day last week shooting my old static recurves from the fifties. My hands are constantly sore and the old statics were not kind to them last week. For now, I am going to have to pass on this model. I am curious how other guys will like these bows. I suspect the fellows that can shoot a Hill style bow will like them but guys that are used to modern recurves will find them a bit on the harsh side. I am looking forward to reading some reviews.

George, I'm not saying they intentionally put the coin there and all of the bows will be like that. I'm saying that is a major FUBAR and that bow should not have been released to the public. I like Bear, I like their bows. I was considering one of these. No way will I order one now, I have to inspect it first in person.

I can't believe what haters you guys are. every one here is such a fricken expert too. No the coin won't affect the integrity of the bow. The writing isn't going to make it delaminate either.
I don't know why they bother with you guys at all. They should just shut down the traditional side of the business and move past there headaches.
What you see as flaws has been going on since the beginning. Everything you guys complain about in all the new bows is evident in all the old bows. I see hundreds.... maybe even a thousand vintage Bears every year and I see the same flaws in the Graylings that I see in the Gainsville bows.. Nothing is different. They build them exactly the same. With the same materials. With the same forms. Heck, they are even the same models, year after year, just different colors. Do you ever want a new model? No.. bring back something old, we don't want you to make any improvements and heaven for bid you raise your price from 1984. Dang corporation ripping off the little guy! I don't know why I even read these threads. Pisses me off every time. BigJim

No Way should anyone be labeled a hater for not accepting this bow at sticker price. Not acceptable from a custom bowyer, Bear, or a $200 import.
On a positive note: Maybe this is the only one, and the owner will one day have a very valuable, rare, factory "mistake" bow.

Even if the coin is offset from where it was supposed to be, I kind of like it - part of the fun thing about collecting old bears is the idiosyncrasies you find... if every Bear bow was perfection and each one looked exactly like the other, that would be kind of boring. As much as I like the old Redwing Hunter, if you've seen one, you've seen them all. Bear? Not so much...

I got up yesterday morning with the strangest thought going through my head. Is Bear going to innovate or just do reruns? I'm not sure that they have the talent to come up with something new at this point in time.
I don't call the comments that are negative "hating". They are genuine customer concerns that need to be dealt with. The last new Bear bow that I picked up at an archery store was less than impressive. It was a green Magnum. I would not have paid $50 for it, it was that cheesy. I did go on to order a 59er but have yet to string it up three years after receiving it. It doesn't look bad, but there is something lacking in the detail. The grip is crude, the writing looks like a fourth grader put it on, and the screen prints are fuzzy. As a paying customer I think that I can expect a little better than that. Is it that hard to find someone that has pretty handwriting to come in part time and put the specs on the bows? I have only done a few leather grips and mine are better than the one on my 59er. It doesn't matter how well something is built if the guy that puts the finishing touches on lacks the skill to finish the job in style. It is kind of like building a half million dollar house and putting ten dollar doorknobs on the outside doors and plastic faucets on the sinks.

It's a 500 dollar bow. Big Jim's choice of words is on the money. Ya'll are picking apart a picture. The gripe about the coin sounds like a kid who doesnt want his food touching each other. As for the silkscreens ,you cant tell anything for the red reflection from the lights or flash. Look at the coin. Im sure it doesnt really have red in the middle of it. As for the writing it looks no worse than on alot of customs. They didn't do the thin lined script so ur pissed? You wanna see the workmanship check out the tips.

Cameron-i have several bow with odd irregular tips. For some reason they don't stand out as much as the printed thick writing on the new bows. I retipped a 1957 Kodiak Special a couple of weeks ago. I put the new tips on as exactly as I could to match the old. It wasn't until I was nearly finished that I noticed one was about a quarter inch shorter than the other.
GLF-I do expect them to step up the fine detail or I won't be pulling out my credit card to order any of their new bows sight unseen. I don't care who builds the bows, a custom bowyer or an assembly line. I expect the finishing touches to be as good or better than the rest of the bow. It is a reflection of pride in one's craftsmanship to top it off with the best. Until something changes at Bear this guy is going to hold and examine the bow prior to agreeing to purchase it. It's my money and those are my rules. Some of you other guys that don't care can do the order and wait game.

Who ever puts on a leather grip maybe you could extend it down to cover up the writing and upwards to cover up the offset coin. Problem solved.

The writing on this bow is poor as it is with all my bows, but it has been worse... to the wood chipper! BigJim

Even thou this is thought of by some as a cheesey K mag it suits my needs. Was bought sight unseen. Glad i bought it and will continue to buy Bear products that I like and won't buy the ones that I don't. My mistake by not selecting debate free. The manufacturer's are few support the products you like when able. One nit picker cancelles out several good posts and ruins it for people that are interested.

The text on the K mag should pass most scrutiny but the green won't. Same deal don't buy.

Old vs new. The new bubinga looks awesome to me. The old maple not as much. Text appearance not a factor.

I did not even notice the coin or the writing not being perfect until it was brought up. It didn't bother me then, doesn't bother me now. I don't know what it is but the more I check this post and see those pics of that bow,the more I want one! Those static curves are awesome looking. I like it a lot.

With our recent cold snap, negative double digits, I wasn't ready to go outside and play.....so my 14 yard basement range will have to do for now.
The first thing is how little this bow weighs. I don't have a scale to get the exact weight but it feels about half the mass weight of the lightest bow I shoot on a regular basis, a 66" Toelke Super D.
It's a very narrow bow, you can see the lower limb compared to a quarter in one of the above pics. The grip is 1 1/8" at the widest part and "1 where it rests against your bow hand. Feels quite different from anything else of owned and shot, but nothing I would consider uncomfortable, just different.
As I said earlier, the string had to go and I happened to have an extra SBD D-10 string laying around that fit it perfectly. A 59" string braced it perfectly at 7 1/8" prior to putting a couple twists in it to get to 7 1/4". I do have a couple of B50 strings on order, from Tim Harms at Braveheart, but for now I'm shooting with the D-10 string.
The bow is marked 45@28 and scales 43@28, on my scale, and 48@30 with my 30" draw. Perfect for me, if it's off the marked weight I much prefer a couple pounds lighter than heavier. Good at 30" but it feels like it might start to stack shortly after that.
Braced at 7 1/4" with the D-10 string and a couple small wool puffs added the bow is DEAD SILENT. The only thing you hear is the arrow hitting the target, and that's not an exaggeration. Speed wise, not speedy but not a dog either, hopefully within a couple of days I can make it to the indoor range and fling some arrows with it at longer distances and put a few through the the chronograph.
Some pics with a 5 arrow group from 14 yards. I have a doe tag for the local National Wildlife Refuge that's good through January 1st so I hope to maybe get this thing bloody in the next couple days :^).....

Nope, factory installed leather grip. Much improved over the crappy leather grip that I had to swap out on my 59'er a few years back. This one's staying on, not one reason to replace it.

What a sweet looking bow that performs too, wow. Kudo's to Bear archery for taking the risk and bringing back an old bow. personally I love my ASL, but the craftsmanship that they have in this is awesome, and I just ordered one. Gotta, love a bow built in America with the legacy and tradition of a great company.

Not exactly the sales talk you would expect from a big time Bear representative/salesman. I don't think anyone needs beheaded for voicing an opinion. That coin does look rather shoddy running over the lamination, when there was plenty of room for it.Lets hope Bear is listening. They can easily correct that and improve on the leather grips. How ever I have never found Bear to be very receptive to ideas. >>>>-----> Ken

Coin, decoration, decal,or writing should not run off the edge. If you can't see to center up something better than that how in the world could you expect to make bows with each the same amount of center shot. Sloppy workmanship is sloppy workmanship. I hope the string grooves and nocks are better centered. If you are happy with it fine. I wouldn't buy it. to each his own. >>>>-----> Ken

I don't believe there has been any in the classifieds that I have found, possible to miss one, but to me that may mean those who have them are somewhat happy about the purchase. I do like the looks, which is most likely the reason I still like my Dual Shelf Polar. Another one of those, "to each their own" glad we all have different opinions.
