Is there much difference between a Tamerlane and a Kodiak Special ? The reason I ask is I had a Tamerlane, great bow. I have run across a 1964 Kodiak Special with factory sight that is 69 inch and 40lb. Looks to be a pretty nice old bow but it is not were I can shoot it. It’s on line. Are the risers about the same size ? And I’m guessing shoot similar ? Thanks for any info between the two. Here is the serial number in bow 24CA116.

I've never had a Tamerlane, but I have owned a Kodiak Special of that vintage with the sliding sight aperture. Very nice bow. Wish I still had it.

Everybody is always saying that the 64 Kodiak/Kodiak Special is a fine shooting, very smooth drawing bow. I don't know how you could go wrong. I have a 67 K.S. and my neighbor has a 67 Tamerlane..To me, there is no difference in shooting them. I have been trying to pry that Tamerlane from him but no dice. He wants my K.S. but I'm not going to sell. we are at an impasse.

I have one of each. Both are nice easy shooting bows. My Tamerlane is 72" and has about a 3" longer riser than my 66" K Sp. Here is a pic of my bows The K sp on top

That's the only year Kodiak Special I DON'T have! Great target bows. I shot them a lot when I could still shoot right-hander. Now mine are all WRONG-handed!

Can't go wrong with either, but I like the Tamerlane because it was a slimmed down version starting in 1967 when Owen Jeffery had a hand in redesigning them for Bear. Even though slimmer, it likely has near the same mass as the bigger Kodiak Special which was made earlier. Fit is the key, as I always say, and either will shoot perfect scores if the archer himself or herself is capable.
