I just received a Bear Sonoma take down recurve bow I ordered as a Christmas present. 60" 40# @ 28 and a good shooter. A real bargain at $99 delivered. Of course you know I had to go out and shoot it, nice bow for the money. You can check them out on E*** if you have the need for one, you won't be disapointed.

And at that price you can afford to file on the grip, etc, to make it fit! I've heard they are really good shooters.

I find that almost impossible they are delivering a nice shooting bow at that price. That can't even be made in China. But where? Mars? The secret back room at Walmart?
For people who care what working people get paid this is not exactly great news.

To the people who struggle to support their families everyday, it is very good news. It's a Greatree bow, Korean/American ownership last time I heard. Lots of great imported bows and American workers benefit from them as well. Arrow sales, points, feathers, and all the other sundry gozintos that go into shooting archery. Hope you are upset also about the imported cell phones that are made by Chinese sweat shops, but I bet you have more than one in your family....along with all the other imported items available today.

Kent...............
The Sonoma looks very similar to the Martin Locust, could be he same bow. The best price I found on the Locust was $159.95 delivered.
Catskills.............
Perhaps this bow is built in a completely automated factory by robots and never touched by human hands until you open the box.

I would personally like to know which American company, or how many bowyers it would take over here to accommodate over 21 million archers. Logistically it isn't even remotely possible unless we have the old Pearson, Bear, Wing, Shakespeare and American Archery factories back in production again and going 24/7. Add to that there are no economy bows made over here anymore because it's cheaper for companies like Bear and Martin to import those items and focus on their upper lines.
It's nothing new, by the way and has been going on for over thirty years by Hoyt, Herter's, PSE and many other archerty entities. And not everyone has $500.00 to throw into the mix to get their kids started in archery. Full pockets don't understand what a lot of Americans go through.

George,
Your points are well taken. I am a working person and not of the "full pockets" class.
Nonetheless, I think that working Americans can be shortsighted by insisting on the cheapest with no thought to the workers who produced something, whether it be here or abroad.
And JamesV, you think you are kidding but let's watch what happens the next 20 years!
That's about as many as I can personally hope to witness ! : )

I'm hunting with mine this year as I had only the one 40# bow to work with when my shoulders decided to go on strike over the summer. Good shooter, swapped the string out with a better one hanging around and like it as much as any Grayling Bear I've had.

It is not on the Bear website. As I recall, it was listed as a kids bow, and not available in left hand.

After looking closer the Sanoma and Spark are different.
The Old Mountain Spark is more like the Samick Red Stag.

The concern for the workers is valid.
However, that has to be taken in context also. There are a LOT of contries on this earth whose society isn't the same as ours. The amount of income required to live a "normal" life as a working class person isn't nearly as high.
And, as was mentioned, this is a niche that American company's seemingly have little or no interest in.
Hey, I was a commercial ly tyer for years an years, so I have firsthand knowledge of what it's like to compete with workers in Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Mexico, Thailand, and lots of other places.
Oddly enough, I could still tye and wholesale many patterns for a price that was competitive with those workers. My margins weren't as high, but I still made a pretty good hourly wage.

Had a bear sonoma for a bit. Very nice quality bow. Shot well. A friend has it now. I believe bear closed them out, as the net dealer selling at $99 is a dealer here in jax. They bought 400 of them.

Like I said above, being sold by a dealer in Jacksonville, FL, for $99 on the bay. They bought 400 of them from Bear last summer. Send a PM if you want the store's name, if interested. These are nice bows for the money.

Bear has been selling this bow as the Sonoma for at least four years, so it's not new news. The list it as a youth model but it's quite capable for any application. The same bow as a Greatree Goshawk, Fleetwood Spartan, and myriad other models from different distributors. They retail for about $149.00 but Bear apparently sold a bunch of them to distributors for a bargain price, likely to work into a different line....possibly their own which would be nice but unexpected.
As for American workers making bows. Who's going to do it? Someone is going to build a factory to create entry level bows, to put Americans to work building them? Not likely since America has been taken over by compounds..70%+ of all shooters over here. Custom bowyers don't want any part of it and couldn't possibly keep up with demand...for example, Twigg Archery said they sold over 600 of the Sage bows two year ago and had a hard time getting more.
Folks seem to be really concerned about American workers when we have nearly moved away from a manufacturing society. Think of what you buy most of anymore....it's electronic or cell technology and all of that is made overseas. Yes, Apple and all the others could move that production here, just expect to pay for those moves if they happen. A study showed the Apple I-Phone that is already a ridiculous price would go up by several hundred dollars. To quote some people here...."you get what you pay for." But they only worry about that when it's something they don't use a lot or they have pretty big pockets.
We expect foreign countries to buy what we manufacture....steel, wood, agricultural equipment, construction equipment...yada, yada, yada., but we don't think we should buy what they make even though it creates a balance of trade and makes economic sense. This is a world economy even though some also think we don't need it.
