Who's hunting in the snow today? We have 10 inches of snow on the ground and as of right now it's still snowing. Weather forecast says increased winds this evening with gusts to 40mph. Sounds like blizzard conditions, eh? Maybe not a good evening to be in a treestand? If the wind cooperates, I'll be there.

The last day of rifle season here and no snow. It all fell in Georgia before it got to us. Day after Christmas starts our late archery season here.

I'm north north/east of Gawgia. They left plenty for us here in the mountains.

We had snow on the edge of the Texas Hill Country on Thursday evening/night. I ended up with around an inch or a tad more at my house. Stayed on until yesterday morning.

We’re just coming up on the 1 inch Mark here… If I could, I would spend the rest of the day out there hoping to cut track. The nastier it gets, the more I like it. One of my most memorable hunts was during a big blizzard that blew in one year at about Thanksgiving time, and I was able to cut tracks and follow them to deer that had bedded down and were in no real mood to go anywhere. At right about 20 yards, they would stand up to see what I was up to and they were offering good shots.

I passed up a couple of big does, both because I wasn’t 100% confident about where the nearest houses were and because I was really hoping to see a nice buck for a change. Finally did see one younger fella, but gave him a pass because the shot opportunity came & went a little too quickly, and it turned out just as well, because just a few minutes later I realized that some snow had fallen down the barrel of the .45/70 and turned to ice. Glad I didn’t find out what happens.

Been out all morning w/ bow & son. First snowfall on last day of PA rifle. Hard to make yourself come indoors on such a day.

It's strange to see the amount of snow falling where it usually doesn't snow, and in sw Colorado, all they got is cold, very cold!! We need to snow to run lions, and it sucks not having any yet..

10 inches from yesterday to today BUT we average 5 feet a year so it is just the start. Had to go out and fire up the John Deere two stage blower this morning so wife could get to church.

Wish we had some... we usually have a skiff for the late hunt that makes things really nice... just cold and dry here.

Jerry, Same thing in N Idaho. We got a dump last month and it warmed up and went away. If you trust the weather guessers our next chance for snow is next Friday or Saturday.

Here in Chesterfield County Virginia I guess there is about 3 inches on the ground and unfortunately its gun season. Because of the use of the dogs for deer hunting. It is impossible to bow hunt, the deer become nocturnal... Waste of time to climb a tree with the stick and string...

we're expecting 3-6 here in SW NH. I'll be out there tomorrow for sure!!!

Longbow 66;

we have the same thing here, I used to get some by getting in a thick cutoverthat had started to grow up they have paths in there I would sit a stump off of one of the main paths and clear shooting lanes to the path

would try to get on a little hill side

the deer will slow down and stop looking back and let the dogs catch up before moving on again

It worked perty well for me , in the past

sure beats sitting home, let the dogs work for you

((wear blaze orange) and don't come out until the dogs and hunters have moved on)

Andy Man. I will try... I wish the dog hunting would come to an end... I was raised deer hunting with dogs, but now that Im 51 I just climbing the tree and enjoy the outdoors with out all the hustle and bustle with dog hunting.. Bow season is short here in Va gotta share with black powder hunters too..

Here in Pa., we have about 9 days without some kind of firearms in the woods, and that is out of a six week early season. We're used to it by now though and can still find a way to get away from most of it.

Disappointment strangles me today because I'm fearful of falling and splitting chest open or the possibility of breaking either of my bionic hips.

I guess I could drive out and sit in truck and gun one down or even run one over with truck like Frisky does or had done. LOL

Guess I just need be satisfied with the meat I have gotten this season already and been blessed with. Wanted to go duck hunting but to iced up for me also today not worth having an issue.

Need to be more careful rather than cave into the drive to go and not be considerate of conditions.

I love the snow too its a real kick in my face now I have to think about what could happen.

Longbow66

Know exactly what you are saying /comming from I grew up on dog hunting ,and where I am its necessary for deer control, but like You I don't like the long season of disturbance with that going on , but do get a smile watching the dogs go by doing what dogs are supposed to do and having their fun

Used to be up to Thanksgiving we had acrhery only , then Blackpowder was put in right at the rut

(messed up the best of the bow season ( I disliked that more than the dogs-atleast they get them moving at a kinda dead time of the year))just have to know their escape routes

Well, the weather forecast is saying snow ending this afternoon but...30+mph winds and the low to be 14 degrees. I might forget the treestand and just stay in by the fire with a hot cup of coffee and sharpen some knives. I don't mind the cold that bad but when the wind gets that strong, pushing that cold of air, I'm done.

Andyman,

I feel your pain. I just spent 5 months alone in my cabin in upstate NY. My hips are not bionic but my knees should be.

I was doing a renovation project, and every time I was on a ladder or the roof I thought, "Be careful, don't let the coyotes have a part in this project !"

On the upside I got to fling a bunch of arrows.

I am hoping that today and tomorrow will melt that icy stuff. I'm dreaming of a brown Christmas just like ones Al Gore warns of. When I don't need snowshoes or below zero blues and can walk on steep hills if I choose.

Two inches up here before it started to snow an hour ago. Prayed it wouldn't snow last night as I arrowed a nice buck while still hunting a cut. Wasn't sure of the hit but I found him this morning. This snow now would have covered his tracks. Got lucky except that I dragged him a mile. Took 1 1/2 hours. Tough at 71.

SLIPPED LEASH had about 10 inches in his area. Took 2 of His Puppies for a walk. Says it was beautiful out there. I got about 2" in my hood. Y'ALL be careful out there with the hunting! Blessed BE!

The beautiful snowfall was calling to me...so I hunted this evening. The woods was just beautiful. Heavy snow blanketing everything, stuck on all the trees, etc. Was a little bit sketchy getting up into my stand with snow stuck to my climbing sticks and stand but made it up and down safe. The woods was so quiet. Just beautiful! Seen deer coming from much farther away than normal with the snow on the ground. The first 2 to come through (doe and a very small yearling) caught my scent about 40 yards out...just enough for mama to stop and put her snout up in the air a couple times, turn and walk away slowly. About 30 minutes later 3 does and 2 yearlings came through. Had them all within 15 yards, then a awesome fight broke out with the big alpha doe and another big doe. I mean these gals slugged it out for 6-7 minutes. It was vicious, a sight to behold! Amazing that they can stand on their hind legs so long while kicking and striking. The wee-bit smaller doe finally conceded and the big alpha doe chased her away. There was blood on the snow in the area afterward. I guess one of them ended up with a bloody nose or cuts. The sound of the hooves striking flesh was loud! Pounding kicks. As vicious as any buck fight I've ever saw. I enjoyed the show. I wasn't interested in taking a doe from this area so I just watched, perched 18 feet up in a very "limby" maple. Just as dusk was settling in the winds started picking up and snow was falling from the trees like a blizzard. Took a shot with a Judo at the top of a small white pine sapling that was poking through the snow before getting down, and nailed it. Very nice evening in the woods....God sure does do awesome things for our enjoyment. Good to be back home with a hot cup of coffee, a deer roast simmering on the stove and my family all warm and well. As 9/10 Broke says, "Living Large and Thanking God for the Opportunity!!!".
