How many of you use a Stabilizer on you Hunting Bow?

From: UpNorth
Date: 08-Dec-17

Yup, and I love it. Unfortunately can't use one for indoor leagues, unless I wanted to shoot in the barebow division, so I had to take it off.

From: Shifty
Date: 08-Dec-17

I have a couple of the cheap all steel ones and was thinking of the new type with rubber and metal or what ever they are made of and don't want a real long one to use on my hunting bow, which would you suggest, that would work without adding a lot of weight.

Check out the B-Stingers. I use a 6" on my Satori.

From: Shifty
Date: 08-Dec-17

treehermit ,have youever used the Sporthunter counterslide?

From: treehermit
Date: 08-Dec-17

No I have not tried that one. I have use 6, 8 & 10" Sport Hunter Extremes. The 8" was probably my favorite of those.

These are the stabs ACCRA 300

From: Shifty
Date: 08-Dec-17

Draven,Thats what i have.

From: GF
Date: 08-Dec-17

I’ve got one rattling around here somewhere from my old Lynx...

I suppose I ought to install it on my Hunter and see how she shoots.... already built for it, so I suppose the worst thing that could happen is that I find out I like it and have to endure an identity crisis over whether I’m still Trad or not....

But if the Stab is 30-odd years old, shouldn’t that count? Or does qualifying as an Antique somehow not equate to Trad status???

From: Draven
Date: 08-Dec-17

I have no idea what you mean GF, but stabs were used way before "trad" became an overly purist movement. You might like it on the bow, even with a small cant.

From: Draven
Date: 08-Dec-17

Shifty, is a nice little stab isn't it?

From: Shifty
Date: 08-Dec-17

Ok why does every thing have to be qualified as TRAD ,Aluminum arrows where used before some on here were born, stabilizers where built into some bows yrs&yrs ago thou they where part of the riser design not screw in ,sights where used long ago. If something improves your hunting bow accuracy and does not look like WEIRD, why not use it i think &i think we owe it to the animals we hunt to be the most accurate of a shot as possible. OK i'm done ranting carry on guys>

I think GF was kidding.....

From: Shifty
Date: 08-Dec-17

Draven,Yes it is.

4nolz@work,I know,he's a good guy.

From: gluetrap
Date: 08-Dec-17

if it would improve my shooting I would , but none of my go to bows got a bushing. I didn't plan it that way. I like to have all the options....ron

I have an old Martin in the basement. A short stabilizer can make a bow much more stable, especially the short ones.

From: dhermon85
Date: 08-Dec-17

I have one on a bear mag riser. Like it with vs without.

From: cobra
Date: 08-Dec-17

Would you guys hunt with one on?

From: cobra
Date: 08-Dec-17

Sorry distracted by wife. That is the topic!??

From: S.M.Robertson
Date: 08-Dec-17

Would i hunt with one on? YES. Only one of my hunting bows has a insert. My new to me Hoyt has a stablizer hole but havent hunted with it yet. My target bow, Carrolls wears one.

From: Ihunts2much
Date: 08-Dec-17

I do and it definitely improves my accuracy. If you decide to try one keep in mind it will change the tune of your bow. You will likely need to go down (weaker) in spine.

From: David A.
Date: 08-Dec-17

See the recent thread, Short Bow Accuracy, pt. 2....a special stabilizer made a huge improvement for me.

From: Ihunts2much
Date: 08-Dec-17

I will add that if you are shooting a lighter weight bow and having trouble finding properly spined arrows in a reasonable grains per pound ratio, the stabilizer will let you go to a weaker spine and open the door for some lighter arrows shafts.

From: cobra
Date: 08-Dec-17

Thanks. O.K. so why hunt with one? I would guess mainly to quiet the bow?

From: cobra
Date: 08-Dec-17

Accuracy. i think I will go to the outdoor range and experiment with this a little. Several of my hunting bows have the insert.

From: Copperhead
Date: 08-Dec-17

Yes on my Hoyt GameMaster.

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 08-Dec-17

Cobra. The stabilizer adds mass, which lends to stability through the shot. Much like a quiver of arrows but better balanced. It's no different really than going from a lighter wood riser to a heavy phenolic riser to gain mass.

From: 2 bears
Date: 08-Dec-17

Yes They help to hold steady. They also seem to slightly quieten a bow. That said I don't often swap them around bow to bow,and many don't have the inserts.>>>----> Ken

From: Wild Bill
Date: 08-Dec-17

Yes, 4", on my Martin and Bear TD hunters, both with a fold knuckle. I do notice the stability/accuracy difference they make. They also fit between the platform slats of my treestand to hold the bow in place while I attend to other things from time to time.

I also have a Bear Kodiak Magnum at 52", and on that I use a tapered eleven inch stabilizer rod with the weight at the end. It makes a very big difference in accuracy.

From: DanaC

5-6 ounce shorty balances my bow just the way I like it.

Anyone ever seen or know of the srablizers in the bottom of my photo? They came on the Hoyt Pro Hunter my brother picked up at a Quarryville, Pa. gun show.

From: Draven

Looks like the ones in the bottom are '50s / '60s Hoyt stabs.

Here’s my Rick Welch Dakota that I installed a stabilizer and a kwickee kwiver

From: DarrinG
Date: 09-Dec-17

If I wanted that type stuff on my bow I'd just go back to shooting a compound barebow with fingers. To get rid of all that stuff was the draw to traditional equipment (for me anyhow). Your mileage may vary, and if it does, that's perfectly fine. To each his own.

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 09-Dec-17

DarrenG, exactly. To each his own is a given and no one has to sign off on it. Stabilizers were around before compound bows. So were sights, kisser buttons, clickers and turkey giblets.

Here's the stabilizers on my hybrid "1.5PM" Hoyt. They're the original PM stabilizers, but painted flat black for hunting purposes on this 51#, 62" bow.

From: Grampus
Date: 11-Dec-17

Do stabilizers make any difference? I have tried out several on recurves and don't notice much difference.

From: Draven
Date: 11-Dec-17

Go out shooting in a windy day and you get the answer. Truth to be told, a stab will not make you a better shot than you are. But will make your hand more stable. On paper, shooting with my #56 Super Kodiak a NFAA 300 round, the difference between stab and no stab is just 4 points - 262/300 and 258/300. I like the feel of the bow and stab in my hand, and that's that.

From: R. Combs
Date: 11-Dec-17

I shoot with a fairly loose grip and the stabilizer just gives you that extra weight toward so that your bow doesn’t tip back after the shot. I don’t have one on all my bows but it just feels good on my Dakota which is my go to hunting bow.

I have noticed a slight improvement in shooting with my New Breed RK1 after adding a stabalizer...it’s a limb saver and looks pretty sharp on my setup

I rock a stab and sights on my bow. 17 inch Morrison riser, winact longs srf sight.

From: charley
Date: 16-Dec-17

I like them on the Rambo frankenbow risers. Especially with quivers that mount to the AMO bushing. I shoot black bear risers without them and don't miss it a bit.
