Aidan got his first deer last year at 10. I felt the turkey was going to be harder as I've always had a harder time taking turkeys than I have deer. He got lucky and drew a tag. The 5th night out he made a real nice shot at 8 yards and got his gobbler. He was one really excited kid!! I was probably more excited!!

Thanks for flipping the photo Mountain Man. The riser is a Trad Tech Black Onyx ILF. The limbs are the bottom of the line trad tech but they shoot great. Thanks for all the kind comments. The kid will be out here this weekend trying for another deer so will show him this at that time.

Bode, you have to give us more than 4 or 5 sentences on a hunt this cool. How about the outdoor life version. You know, "and there he was coming through the mist" kind of thing. For all of us that cant get out we have to live through those of you that do.

At least give us the low down on broadhead, draw weight, hit location, DRT or tracking job.

Great job...not to mention I consider fall turkeys a whole different species (even though we no longer have two seasons) and way more difficult. Details would be nice, as I confess I haven't a clue how you get a turkey in bow range in the fall. Are decoys still effective?

Congratulations INDEED! Turkeys are tough to take with a bow! Hope that Y'ALL took lots of photos? Stash them in safe places so that Y'ALL can "Remember when...."

Ok sorry for the short version. The arrows are old 500 spine gold tips that I broke behind tip. I cut them at 26 inches, add a 100 grain brass insert. The broadhead was a 150 grain Wensal Woodsman. The bow limbs are marked 40# @ 29" and they are cranked all the way in. He draws about 24". Now for the hunt. I live in North Dakota south of Bismarck on the Missouri River. I have a permanent ground blind about 50 yds from the river made out of sandbags from the last flood. There are a lot of turkeys that move back and forth along the river. They like to roost in the big cottonwood trees that grow close to the river. I sat with him Friday evening till sunset but we saw nothing. The next morning my wife woke him up and he got into the blind by himself. I usually sit with him but my 87 year old mom had some health problems and I had to go there to help her out. She now doing well. Anyway turkeys came by about half hour after sunrise and a gobbler turned facing mostly away at about 8 yards. Aidan shot and hit it high behind right thigh and arrow angled into the body cavity. It flew away. He got out of the blind and ran to the house and told my wife call PaPa I hit one. She called me and I got home about 15 minutes later. When I pulled into the drive way his bow was laying in the grass with a gobbler next to it. He had left the house as soon as the call had been made to me with my German Wirehair Pointer and headed in the direction the turkey had flown. About 50 yards from the blind he heard flapping and looked up to see his turkey take off from up in a cottonwood tree still with arrow in place. It flew about 40 yards and folded up dead. He was one excited kid to say the least.

Even more shock and awe.....no flock busting, no assembly yelping, no decoys. I won't share how long I've wanted to take a turkey with a bow....and I'm old. He basically took a stand hunted gobbler at a distance the bird would have seen him blink in most natural blinds. Great job!
