Here's an RD for a grandson for Christmas. Not going to be a surprise though since part of the gift is having him participate in the build. He catches on pretty fast and will be able to build on his own after a few more experiences if he wants to.

Bocote riser, maple core lams with stabilcore, clear glass, curly etimoe back and curly sycamore belly veneers.

All materials from Kennym except the veneers that were already on hand.

I'll try to keep it up. Today I layed out the profile but my shop is the great outdoors and it was too cold and windy today. :)

That's one lucky boy! Looking forward to it. Hope you have a great holiday!

That's especially awesome because of the curly etimoe; that one is no longer available due to protection, so he's getting something quite unique.

I didn't know it was no longer available. I've had it for quite a long time. Knowing that I'm glad it's going into his bow.

That's going to be a beautiful Bow! Keep us posted!

It's warmer today and allowed some profiling.

My method of doing this is to print the profile off from the cad design, glue it together and glue it to the tape on the back of the bow. Holes are punched every couple inches so that the center line on the back of the bow can be aligned with the center line on the printed profile.

This design is turning out to be a good one so it has earned a permanent template.

The edges have been sanded level and rough string nocks cut in. On the tillering stick it seems to be bending cleanly. Doesn't look quite right in the picture but it's due to camera angle.

After being drawn and let down the string is laying on center which is always a satisfying sight! Now, if I can finish out the nocks without screwing them up, all should be good in that department.

The weakest limb is identified and marked for future tillering reference.

While the string was on the bow was pulled on the scale and registered 47# @ 28". That's exactly how the predecessor to this bow scaled at this same stage. So, it should finish out at 40 to 42 pounds.

I'm stalled now while contemplating what to do for the tip overlays. Also need to consult with the grandson on grip design. I'll also save some work for the weekend when he's not in school.

Thanks for the kind words.

Think I'm going to match the tip overlays to the riser wood with maybe a black glass spacer.

Any suggestions?

Sorry for leaving this hanging.

Not too much done since the last update. I'm actually working on two other bows concurrently which takes time out of the short winter days.

The tip overlays have been glued on with CA and roughed out. I settled on bubinga and wenge for the overlays. Now the love/hate relationship with wenge is reignited! :^)

A couple pictures and hopefully an update on grip design soon. The grandson is working on some sketches. Would like to have him even more involved but school and early sunsets in the "shop" make it difficult.

Does not look like winter in Colorado. The printed profile is a excellent idea, thanks! Is this Bow for a teenager? I am real curious about the stack and dimensions, if you would not mind sharing. I have plans for some kids Bows myself.
