You teach that kid to cook like that, and he’s going to have girls lined up waiting to meet him! Cast-iron is quite the thing with the 20 something’s these days… Kind of nice for an Old Dude to know something about something that’s become fashionable, eh?

You're right Dan, it just don't get no better. Cast iron cornbread.... yumm

That is wonderful Dan, especially with the buttermilk.

If your grandson is interested enough to show you a buck he spotted, then he is on the way and you will be their for him.

We use cast-iron all the time, Best nonstick skillets we ever had. We sealed them in the oven at 400° for an hour and a half, you do that about three times and they're ready to go.

Made a big pot of venison stew last night from a neck roast. Cooked the roast 12 hours in the slow cooker, then took the meat off the bones and made a stew, potatoes, carrots, onion, corn, and some chopped kale. Made a big skillet of cornbread at lunch time today (in the cast iron skillet, of course). Had stew and cornbread for lunch, cornbread and milk for supper. Got two pieces of cornbread left, I love cornbread and milk for breakfast.

We had enough corn meal mush as kids to float a battleship. I do like cornbread though, just sweet enough to give it character...and best with some pancakes, or even scrapple with real maple syrup.

I always have scrapple on groundhog day in honor of Pennsylvania's Phil.

It got better when you poured the buttermilk over it. Once many years ago my grandpa sat down to his third glass of buttermilk and cornbread. Granny told him "if you eat another glass of that, you'll bust ". He told her "reckon you best step back then ". Funny, the little things that stick with you your whole life. It'll be that way for your grandson too, I'll bet.

Indeed the planet's are aligning. My daughter's "soon to be" just bought her a recurve for Christmas and is getting my grandson a Red Rider. He has my blessing.
