Anyone have one? Very new riser that looks quite nice not much info out there on them. Thanks

From: ca
Date: 03-Dec-17

There are fairly new small batch production thats why there is not much info out. I am dealing with John Mosier for 10 years now and he is the real deal. He has some nice features on his risers and I will get one myself next spring.

From: sheepdogreno
Date: 03-Dec-17

I just got pricing from him for what the riser appears to be it's very well priced. Even for camo dipped

From: sheepdogreno
Date: 22-Dec-17

to bring this back up to the top I placed an order for a 17in model. hes sending it off to get dipped in kryptec camo. also ordered on of his machined stabilizers for it. we shall see when I get it but for what I paid it seems to be a steal!!

From: knobby
Date: 22-Dec-17

They've caught my eye, too. Do they have to be camo dipped?

From: sheepdogreno
Date: 22-Dec-17

No standard they are black with a dark wood bolt on grip. And I believe his standard price for a black riser is only like $250 or something like that

WOW, I really like the look of that.

Anyone have a link to a website for these?

Rick

From: sheepdogreno

Rick if you have Facebook check out johns custom archery. Everything I've seen is he is a machinist and an archery guru. Helped develope this riser at a very low cost to help her wheel guy's into traditional archery.

I have a left hand riser on order. John has been a pleasure to deal with. The price is competitive and the quality appears to be excellent as well.

Date: 22-Dec-17

I'm in the process of talking to John, and ordering a 21" riser right now.

I'm excited. 8^)

I've been looking for a beefy no nonsense, but fully functional ILF riser for a while now.

Looks like this is going to be the one, and it's good lookin too. 8^)

Rick

From: Rick Barbee

That should have read - beefy no nonsense metal ILF riser.

Rick

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 23-Dec-17

It's a done deal.

Should have my new riser in about (I'm guessing) 3 weeks. He had no 21"ers in stock, so he has to get it built first.

I like the visual versatility of flat black, so I opted for that instead of a camo dip.

John is a great guy to deal with.

I'll be doing some reviews once I get it in hand, and have it set up & shooting for me.

Rick

That makes much more sense than the Halo. Must be well priced if Rick sprung for it lol.

Is a lefty higher price?

[[[ "That makes much more sense than the Halo. Must be well priced if Rick sprung for it lol." ]]]

You know me all to well BroCam. 8^)

Yes, the price on these risers is very competitive, and that is putting it mildly.

Rick

From: Tradmike Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

No I paid 300.00 for the lefty. He didn't have one on stock so it had to be built.

Glad you got one Rick in excited to try it out! Hoping it will make a good indoor bow for winter league

USPS tracking says my new riser is at my PO for pick up. :-D

I'm excited !!!

They are really nice and the price is good too. He's got 21 inchers ready to go. I think that's about the best length.

From: Rick Barbee

Todd, the one I will pick up tomorrow is a 21", and I agree - the 21" (at least for me) is the best length.

Received my 21" Optimus riser today from

www.facebook.com/johnscustomarchery/

1st Impression - I'm about 10 times more impressed, than what I expected to be.

It is nothing short of superb as far as attention to detail, aesthetics, and craftsmanship are concerned.

It also has a very nice "slightly" low of center balance, which I love.

That's all before I even start setting it up. :)

1st Impression - I'm about 10 times more impressed, than what I expected to be.

It is nothing short of superb as far as attention to detail, aesthetics, and craftsmanship are concerned. I can second that.Exactly my feelings when I got mine a few weeks ago.Even the removable shelf rest is made of aluminum not some plastic.

I'm not going to upload, or hot link pictures. You can view them by opening the links provided in the post.

The riser comes with a removable shelf, designed for shooting off the shelf. Nice little piece, and will work perfect for shooting feathers, but not so well for shooting vanes off the shelf. It's a little to low profile, and little to wide for my taste.

Picture link -> http://image.ibb.co/cpNZKR/005.jpg

So i set about installing one of my own design speed bump shelves with a center shot adjustment.

Picture link -> http://image.ibb.co/kdHJeR/006.jpg

If you're wondering about all that extra velcro in the sight window, well if you're a hunter, and ever clanked an arrow against the hard surface of a riser at the wrong time, then you know exactly what it's for.

I mounted the quiver (with the included adapters for hard mounting), installed the limbs, and strung her up.

Even though the riser is exactly the same length as the Hoyt Excel I was using, the take off angles of the limb pads the same, and the contact point of where the string leaves the limbs is the same, the brace height came in 1/2" lower than when on the Hoyt.

The reason for the lower brace height is - the Optimus riser is slightly less deflex than the Hoyt riser.

I have the limb bolts bottomed out. This gives me a 1/16" positive tiller (which I want), and the bow comes in at 69.5" at my draw of 29.5". It was 68# on the Hoyt, and I assume the reason for the bit more is due to the straighter handle.

The bow is super quiet, super smooth on the draw, and extremely tame during the shot. The balance is pretty near perfect. Much better than the Hoyt.

First 3 shots from 20 yards. Needs a tad of tuning but I'm happy.

By the way - I checked the limb alignment with my laser alignment tool, and without having to move anything the limbs are perfectly aligned.

My 17" riser came today. I opened it and put a string on, braced at 7 3/4, and nock a little under 1/2". Put some old 42# medium hoyt limbs on (didn't check tiller) and went outside. Photo on left were my "First Shots" today and also the very first shots with the bow. Photo on right was immediately after.....I couldn't be happier.

I wound up doing quite a bit of tweaking/tuning last night, and think I have it dialed in pretty good.

First two shots of the day from 15 yards.

Rick

From: Rick Barbee

Then I shot & tweaked/tuned a bit more, and finished up with this 30, 20, 10 yard walk up at the green soda straw. The 10 yard shot busted the nock on the 20 yarder, and deflected.

P.S.

The first two shots are for a challenge on another forum.

That's why the scoring.

I wound up going dead down the pipe with the center shot adjustment, a dead even tiller, and a 7/16" above square nocking point.

And a custom ten ring string to match

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 30-Jan-18

BroDarren, That Is Nice !!!!!

I tried mine with a stab, but it don't need it, so I took it back off. The forward balance is just right without it.

I also thought I would try a short stab to the side to offset the quiver weight for side to side balance. I got it hanging from a string balancing perfectly, BUT it did not make it shoot any better at all.

The riser is heavy enough with good balance, that the quiver don't seem to matter to it at all. I shot it with, and without the quiver on it. Zero difference. No torque either way.

Rick

From: sheepdogreno
Date: 30-Jan-18

Thanks rick! I got one bc I had never shot with one before and for johns price on the stabilizer it was very inexpensive to try! Will play with it for sure. I use a big Jim quiver on all my bows but thinking of trying a tight spot quiver on this one. I prefer to shoot with a quiver so I like the idea of adjustment on the tight spot

Looks like I’m going to have to try one of these risers. Now to choose between a 19” or 21”....decisions, decisions.

The 17" riser paired with medium limbs makes a 60" bow that shoots just fine. I've been tuning this bow for three under, which is a style I've never shot, but have started to fiddle around with lately.

Hey Optimus owners:

My shooting partner just got one of these.

He and I are both pretty new to ILF and all the variables.

He's got a 17" riser, #40 TradTech (from Samick) Short limbs, 27.5" draw, Fast flight string.

He says it feels harder to pull than his #50 Bear Kodiak bow.

So, couple of questions: 1) Is it possible that at his draw, he's getting close to stacking with a bow this short?

2) I've heard the angle of the limbs is different than some bows and accounts for the increased poundage feel.

Would love to hear from some folks who understand all of this a little better.

Thanks!

From: Jim Casto Jr
Date: 25-Feb-19

Both questions the answer is yes--maybe.

I'd suggest your buddy put the bow on a set of scales to see what the exact weight is.

Shorts of any weight will stack sooner than Mediums or Longs...so will get heavier faster ...

Do any of you know how this riser compares to the Samick Discovery? I was going to purchase one but came across this thread and found John's risers to very interesting for the price. Looks similar to the discovery, but also looks stronger and with a nicer sight window. Any thoughts? Thanks
