picked these up for next to nothing recently. The 5 Bears all 40-45 spine except 1 which is 52. The three no name ones are 50-55. The pictures were prior to cleaning. It's amazing what a little hot water and Dawn dish soap will do. I figure these where arrows that would come from the hardware store or country store. The three with no name have the price sticker on them. Care to guess what it was back in those days?

I was in archery in those days, but a sticker could be anything. The first wood arrows I bought in 1965 for hunting were $8.95 for a dozen with field points. Bear Razorheads were $4.95 a dozen.

49 cents

Just a guess.

Well...I used to pay .25 at the hardware store back in the day. And that was the good ones with REAL field points glued on. Not the cheap crimped on target points. Usually could only afford 2-3 at a time.

I had a shop/lanes from 1965 thru 82. Mid range woods were $8 a Dz. & Easton Aluminums were $18 a dz. I don't think I had a BH over $8 dz back then either.

Nice find. I also enjoy finding old arrows. Lance

Our local hardware store charged 25cents for plain wood arrows, the fancy ones were 35. This was about 1953.

Back then we got them for 35 or 45 cents, with field pts. Would buy one at a time because we didn’t have quivers to carry any extras. Got real good at finding a lost arrow too because if you lost it, you were done shooting until dad was talked into buying another.

I guess these are a little newer. Sticker says .69 I was thinking maybe mid 60's to early 70's

Careful of those nocks. I had one explode on me yesterday.

Well it could be where they were sold. Department stores also sold bows and arrows back in the day and they were usually higher in price. In 1968, the little shop by our indoor archery barn/range sold X-7's aluminum shafts for $11.00 a dozen, and the cheap Swift shafts for $8.00 a dozen. I remember it well. Bought my Wing Thunderbird there for $59.95 in 1969.

I bet no matter where they were bought, the older 70's and earlier had good wood in them. I've stripped some old ones down and rework into some great arrows. DBar

I striped off what was left of the feathers and refletched most of them with 3" feathers which is what they had. 2 still have the factory fletching. The Bears shoot great out of my 45# X-200. First time I've shot wood arrows in a looooong time.

The local Greensburg department store in downtown, Troutmans, had a "Sporting Goods" section, where bows and arrows were sold. Same style wooden arrows, maybe a different design over the years.

In the early 1970s (I'm a '62 vintage), I'd go in, look longingly at those arrows ($0.49 or so, each +/-), and "wish". Then, I noticed that a few of the arrows were missing nocks, or the fletchings were gone. So...

I approached the clerk, and asked something like: "You have arrows that are not shootable, cause they're missing (nock/feather/point). Would you think about making a deal with me? I know how to fix the "broken" arrows, if you want to sell them cheap."

The clerk must have recognized a dedicated Archer, because he smiled, and gathered up ALL the funky arrows. Even went to the "back room" and came out with more.

And said: "How's a dime each sound?"

So, for something like $3 or $4 to a 10-year old, I had just made the deal of a lifetime. (Saving all those soda bottles finally paid off!!)

Each time I see arrows like "nrthernrebel05" posted, I think back to 1972/73, and realize that's when it all began....

A future-thinking clerk, wooden arrows, and dreams!
