Yesterday was a beautiful day, that is until I started hurting around 2:00, just before I was going out to hunt. Stabbing pain in lower back/stomach. By 7:00 I was getting an IV at ER and fighting a kidney stone.
If you haven't had the pleasure, DON'T.
It was all over by 9:00, home and comfy. Well enough to sit out in my blind tonight and count 19 deer and 5 turkey under a beautiful sunset.
What a difference a day can make. Reminds you how fast life can change, both ways.

Had one 15 yrs ago. It was imbedded in my bladder, and every week or so it would move a little causing excruciating pain. I’d be on the floor for 30 minutes, trying to claw the carpet up with my fingernails. Not fun!

I had a hemorrhoid removed once. It was my ex-wife. Life got so much better after that because I could buy more bows!

Been there with the kidney stone, it’s not any fun. I had to have mine blasted because it was to big to pass. It’s just another day in paradise! Lol

Yep, had the nasty gall bladder attack and thought I was having a heart attack. Didn't know if I'd live and didn't care at the time, but it all came out okay...both literally and figuratively. Also had pancreatitis along with it...2011. That's enough of that stuff.

Glad you are O.K. now. I have had several episodes with kidney stones.Went through the Gallbladder thing too. A couple years later Appendix ruptured. It turned out to be the worst. Spent 9 days in the hospital. Things seem to be much better since I am running out of the unnecessary parts.LoL >>>----> Ken

Never hurts to get a reminder about life, and how precious it is. We all need a reminder from time-to-time. maybe, just maybe, we have a better disposition afterwards, and greet others with a smile and kindness.

I don't even want to think about. Why in the world did you have to remind me? You've lost your mind.
:^)
I've had five of the darn things. I wouldn't wish them on anyone... well... maybe one guy I can think of.
The branch president of the local bank is a young and very professional lady. I was having a bout with darn things while I was in the bank. She asked what was wrong. She went on to tell me she'd had several episodes with them and that she'd had three children. Said she'd rather have a baby any day rather than a kidney stone. :^)
Glad you're doing better. Keep yourself hydrated more; drink a lot of water, even if you don't want it.

In '96, opening day of bow season, I left my stand in severe pain. Had to be taken to the hospital with a kidney stone. Terrible experience. Opening day of bow season in '97, same thing, one year to the day back in the hospital with another kidney stone. I was beginning to think it would never end.

Bruce Glad you are okay and this pain is behind you now. I was gonna ask if your handle had anything to do with this experience, but this really is nothing to joke about... :) By chance do you drink alot of coffee? Anyone who has had these stones drink alot of cups of coffee per day? Just curious.... I do. Kinda concerned one of these is in my future.

TrapperKayak,
I drank tea, morning noon and night. I didn't drink anything else. After this last episode, the doc said to get off anything brown; dark cola's, coffee, tea, etc. He also said to drink more--a lot more. So... I'm off anything brown and I drink at least a gallon a day. A lot more trips to the bathroom, but I'd do darn near anything not to go thru the last episode again. It's been a year and half and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Very good advice about drinking water. I don't drink nearly enough. I know I should but I have an addiction to diet cola. I need to get off the brown liquids. Thanks for the reminder.

I've had them twice they are not fun at all my doctor said when men get them it equates to the pain of female pregnancy.. doc told me to quit drinking diet pop which I did for a couple yrs. now drinking one or 2 a day which is still too many but drinking water all the time is boring taste wise.

Jim Jr., thank you for that advice. As we speak, I am about to down my fifth cup of coffee for the day. I recently read that multiple cups of coffee wards off some cancers, and other such ailments, and is overall beneficial. First I'd heard that. Always felt it was the contrary. It made me happy to hear that since I've been drinking tons of coffee for years, even decades. I hope my kidneys are free of them there stones... I will take your advice and drink more water, and cut back on the joe, but not cut it out. I don't like tea, and almost never drink pop. But the coffee thing is a problem... :/ probably can't quit that. It is my only vice anyway, that, and hunting...

The most intense, excruciating pain I ever had was when a nurse ran a king-size Q-tip coated in betadine, in the ientry wound from a .22 bullet and out the exit hole, that was the size of a quarter. Dang CCI Stingers!

Kidney stones = excruciating pain. You're lucky you passed it in short border. I've had 3 and they gave me some of the worst pain I've ever felt. I had one for 40 days with the pain coming and going until I finally passed the damn thing. Dr. told me any longer and they were going in after it.
Gall bladder as well. Some one asked me what a gall bladder attack was like. I told them it felt like I swallowed a hand grenade. Thought it was a heart attack at first.
RonG - 50 stone at once!!!! I can't even imagine that without bending over in pain.

I had Kidney Stones about 5 years ago, started the evening I got home from my Musk Ox hunt in Canada. Sure glad it did not hit while I was up there, although looking back I believe I did pass one while out hunting as I did have the same feeling one day only not as intense. Thought for sure it was a ruptured Appendix at the time. Would prefer never to experience that ever again.

Interesting thread. I was on my way to Isle Royale for a late September canoe trip when the left side kidney pain occurred. Had my cohorts drop me off in Gaylord where the wife came to my rescue. Two weeks later I had the stone pulverized. It was my third one, but first to be blasted in the hospital. My urologist never warned me about coffee or "dark drinks" (and I love my morning coffee). He only stated to drink lots of fluids, including a glass of orange juice everyday. Since this is a traditional bow hunting thread I will mention I arrowed a 7-pointer, kidney-stone free, in late October!

Ive had 26 kidney stones 2 I had surgically removed , Ive spent many nights pacing the floor screaming and moaning . Red meat may be a culprit along with dark sodas . On the last surgery they cut a hole in my back and inserted a tube as big around as you finger and ran it through my kidney . The next day they went in and broke up the stone going thru the tube and left the tube in for a week . When they pulled out the tube I almost went to the ceiling . But the worst is the tiny tube that is inserted between your bladder and kidney, has to stay in for a month, when they take that out they use a camera on a cable with a y in it and what looks like a rifle scope on the other end. In the y goes a little pincher on a cable like the ones mechanics use to retrieve lost parts, and you know where they go in from with no pain killers . I got one once wile hog hunting in South Texas and had to fly home leaving my good friend Kent Kaufman to drive home alone all the way to ND. I shot 2 hogs and two javies that week, Kent told me I should hunt with pain killers more often he said I make lots better hits. They are bad hombres to deal with if you get one just start chugging bottles of water you will pass it much sooner .
