I have finished aluminum arrows before from a bare shaft but these are my first wood arrows. Spruce shafts given to me by Blackhawk (thanks again), burnt sierra stain, almond crown that I spray painted and my first (and it shows) attempt at cresting, and 5-1/2 inch dyed and barred turkey feathers. I'm hoping to do better on the next batch, but at least I'm now on a learning curve. I thought I'd put the dogs in the photo too, they're a little lonely today! Thanks for looking. Lance.

I haven't shot them yet and they're 50-55 in spine. Thanks, Lance

Cresting looks fine to me. Good job. Warning...turning wooden shafts into beautifully crested arrows is known to be addictive.

Nothing more satisfying than using archery gear you make yourself. Well done.

Beautiful...
However, I wouldn't put that kind of work into wood without shooting them for spine, which is pretty much the most important thing in archery. With most wooden shafts you can squeeze a nock and a head onto the raw shaft, and let 'er rip. Not a bad idea since the numbering system has little correspondence to reality, other than as a grouping.

I took the plunge right before dark and shot the arrows off of this 1955, 48# Hoyt. They flew like little rockets and I'm very pleased. To dark for a photo but will do a first shot this week with them. Thanks again to all of you. Without this site I would have never attempted making my own arrows. Lance.

They look great Lance. Keep at it, I've been building woodies as long as I've been shooting. Nothing better in my book.
