If the man wishes to shoot his bow in the hallway of his own home and no one is in the adjacent room , I can't see what gives you the right to judge and insult him ,Fisher. In my view it is none of your D business! Sandy
I commented risky, because I would be afraid of punching a hole in a wall. But let the man shoot the way he wants. I am sure he took precautions that no one would could walk into an arrow.
There's not a chance in hell I could ever do that... I'd be spending the night in the garage with the dog if I even suggested it. But I don't think anyone has the right to say what you did Fisher, fer crying out loud, that was outta line. Obviously the guy knows the situation and is not risking anyone's welfare by being careless enough to shoot there when someone (including the dog) is in the rooms. Didn't you READ THE TITLE OF THE THREAD??? Duhhhhh...
I'm sure Ted and his wife pretty much know what is going on, but accidents can happen, as long as his wife is in the same room, not a problem, but if she is in one of the other rooms, very risky. Just be careful Ted.
The way I shoot you would have to line the walls with sheet metal....Ha!Ha!
Now we got that out of the way, Ted you have a wonderful wife letting you practice in the house.
Your form looks great, I can't hold the bow up after the shot anymore, but it doesn't seem like it makes any difference for me. Looking good friend.
for those who worried, thank you for your concern. I hear you and your genuine thoughts are being received. just so that you know, here are some explanations.
1) my dog is in the bedroom. door closed AND semi-permanent gate closed across the doorway on top of it.
2) my wife is down stairs. there's also gate at the foot of the stairs. She has to open them to come up. and she knows I'm shooting, so she calls up IF she wants to comes up. no one else is in the house. (other than ghosts. but they know better to stay out of the way, or be shot.)
3) corridor wall: 10 yards down the hallway, THREE FEET or 36 INCHES wide corridor. if I shoot at the side walls, then I'm REALLY doing something wrong.
my tuning and shooting isn't stellar, but it is well enough that I can shoot straight enough. after all, I am shooting at the target area that's 8 inches wide at 25yds outside?
4) wall behind the target: believe it or not, flat sheet doubled up _hanging down_ is enough to stop all the kinetic energy from arrow with _wide blunt rubber head_ upon impact, to the point where arrow just drops to the floor.
---my form:
lots better then 3 years ago, but I take video once in a while to see myself, and I see that with 3 shots, I'm doing 3 different sequences. so that's one of the many things that I still need to fix.
Thanks guys! for letting me share. and yes I have wonderful wife - ted
My wife and I both use to shoot from the dinning room through the kitchen out the garage door into the garage. I though everyone did that it's called winter shooting
Awesome in my opinion. I used to shoot in the hallway of our house when we operated a general store in our town. The building was 75' long and the hallway was 60' from end to end. Only way up was near where I was standing to shoot, and everyone downstairs knew when I was shooting. I had one of those nylon mesh front targets with solid nylon back and an arrow never went through that. Weren't many prima donnas around back then to pooh pooh anything they didn't approve of, and common sense was really common.
Dao, I wanted to compliment you on your response to the question of safety. A few here threw words at you that was edgy, and a bit attacking. Your calm, meek, and respectful reply was outstanding!! I noticed and I thank you for this example.
Throwing "edgy" words on this forum is not all that unusual unfortunately. I feel certain that some things get posted here that would never be said face to face.
I am pretty lucky too. Not only does my other half shoot, she doesn't mind if I shoot inside either. Heck, with the appropriate target stack, she will shoot too.
Like many others, what you do in your house is your business. I find life to be so busy that to get in the practice, I have to shoot inside. There is not enough daylight hours to go around.
Your form looks most excellent and I appreciate you sharing this content.
Dao, nice solid form, and a very classy reply to the folks who think that their opinion of you and your wife's judgment and what you do in your own home means anything. I feel sorry for him, hes probably not allowed to shoot in his house, i wonder if hes allowed to wear his shoes inside. LOL
I shoot inside my gallery,, just like indoor range, got to be careful, but heck, you have to be careful shooting outside too,, any where you are need to be aware and be safe,,
Sure, why not shoot inside if you have room to do it and everyone knows you're shooting. I can get 14 yards in my print shop from the front door to the press room wall. I figure that I'm 70% closer than being able to get 20 yards so I print my targets out at 70% of full size. I try to squeeze in a few arrows a couple times a week in my slow periods until I can get to the regular indoor range on weekends.
My wife would not appreciate me doing that! Great wife indeed! I guess because your form is so much better then mine I didn't see any flaws. Great video thanks for sharing.
My wife loves me too ...I shoot in the house very often... when she is not home...I am pretty sure if she knew it would be OK...someday I am going let her know I do it...maybe.
You gents are correct, my comments were harsh and judgmental, and did not at all express what i was thinking. I watched the video and blurted. For that i apologize Dao.
What i was thinking - i saw the pet water bowl and the cloth hanging and thought Accidents happen too easily and too frequently. New shooters, kids or anyone may see this and cause a tragedy. Shoot safely my friends.
Fisher> I understood that you cared. and you are right. the way it looks, and the way I presented, it really does look hazardous. and one of your concern about some kid copying without thinking things through is very much a valid point.(although in all honesty, I don't think I can stop kids from being kids....I mean, I was rotten teen almost four decades a go.. and I know no one could have stopped me from my own stupidity back then)
anyway, it did remind me to fill in the detail, so thank you again for voicing your concern.
Matt> I'm glad that you'd be moving your car out of the way. Thank you for sharing your "indoor range"!
Good stuff, thanks for sharing. I shoot in the basement when weather is lousy.
On a side note, when I lived in Ohio, the next door neighbor used to practice shooting his .44 magnum in the attic of his home. And he had a wife and two kids. Now that's crazy.
My wife has no problem with my shooting in our 'indoor range' either. Although, I have a concrete block wall for a backstop. I am always amazed by these type posts. Is it that unusual to have a good wife. I guess I have been spoiled for the past 36 years.
Can you guys have your wives talk to mine about ringing out wet deer capes in the new washing machine? My wife seems to have an issue with it. My work around is to wait till she leaves, but sometimes I have to wait to long.
My friend and his brothers used to shoot in their Grandmas house down the hallway. One day. the phone was shot off the wall and even Grandma said "Thats it. Outside!"
