After a day of stumping my arrows look like they have been through a train wreck. They are not split or cracked. Just some scrapes and dings . Would the still be safe to shoot. These are fir shafts and they seem to still be straight.

I would think so. Just examine them carefully for splits.

Dents are common Inspect them good,,,give them a flex or two makesure theres no cracks

Stonewall, we can't answer that. It's pretty much a hands-on thing. Look them over and flex them and go from there. It's really that simple.

Dents if not severe are usually not a problem. If the grain is cut or cracked beware. Take care, >>>----> Ken

Yes, flex them and look for any cracking. If there is cracking. Snap them in half and put them in the wood stove. I never shoot more than one arrow at a time at a target to help prevent Robin Hoods etc. but stumping is a potentially hazardous sport for arrows. Sometimes you just gotta get more. (Don't go stumping with your good fancy arrows).

If your hearing is good, grab the nock and bounce the arrow on a knee, a crack can be heard as a rattle. Bob

I grab one end and whack'em across my thigh about mid arrow hard enough to hear any splits rattle. Rotate the shaft and whack again, then grab the other end of the arrow and repeat, All the while rotating the arrow between my fingers to give and split a chance to sing out.
