I'm never sure what one expects from an opinion on a subject such as this. If you never shot one, my opinion is near worthless. They are great bows...period, whether or not you will like one, or can even shoot one well is pretty much up to you. I suggest you find one to try. A 3 piece longbow is pretty much more of a recurve to be honest as far as handling. Hybrids like that are nice to shoot but again, fit is everything.

I had one of his one piece RD Longbows. They are great shooting bows and are exceptionally well crafted. I sold mine because the throat of the grip was too narrow for my liking. For that reason, I recommend you shoot one before ordering a new one. If you buy a used one (like I did), you won't lose much reselling it if it doesn't suit you. - John

He makes a really nice bow. But FYI, he told us at Denton Hill he's retiring in 2 years. So, if you want one, don't wait real long. Jim

Leon makes a great bow! I have a few of his one piece and 3 piece takedowns. Both Slammers and R/D. They are smooth shooting and works of art. I highly recommend them.

I also recommend shooting one before you buy. Give a Leon a call and see if he will work with you on trying one out. What works for me may not work for you. I shot a bunch of longbows and settled on the Slammer and R/D. I love the grip!

Leon Stewart is a great guy and you should do it. I have one and one friend of mine had several, the 3 piece is really a performer and they are top shelf workmanship.

I love my 2 piece R/D and have actually never taken it apart. I got it used, had him redo the finish, replaced the compass and the snake skins. The woods are beautiful, the handle is very comfortable and the finish is excellent. He was fast, gracious and it has become my most used bow. You will get a great bow, and I bet a lot of fun putting it together.

Picked up a takedown longbow this summer. Leon is a great bowyer but even better man. You will never regret doing business with him.

The Slammer is an exceptional longbow in 1 or 3pc. A true benchmark type bow. Quite a few are as quick, but few are as quick AND as quiet. One of those longbows that if you could only own one you'd be fine with just a Slammer. I have had the 56, 58, 66, and 68 and all were superb.

Hey Flygirl, Out of all the bows, which length seemed to be the most consistent shooter, I went for the 64 inch. THANKS DOC !!!
