Calling the shot early again. My son and I are on a little hunting trip and I only have cell service when I drive out in the evenings.

Archer's choice for the weekend. Shoot any shot you like for your daily First Shot and share the details.

God Bless,

CD

Good morning First Shot gang. Just checking in to say "Hi" to old friends and let you know I'm still kicking around the woods. Health problems that took me out of traditional archery continue and a couple more years of wear, but I don't plan to give it up yet. Love of archery and the outdoors keeps me going as long as I am able.

Not a traditional kill, but a bow kill just the same. Wanted to share my good fortune with old friends. Huge 8 point take this season. Blessed with another gift. OK, give me a break, I know it l's a crossbow, but at least it is a recurve.

I’ve been having some tough days lately, so thought I’d hange things up a touch... Screwed a Magnus 4-blade onto one of the footed cedars and took this on kneeling at about 18, with a little more cant than usual...

Just a shade to the right of the ball, but just a bit less than 5” low.

Hmmmmmm.....

Would have expected more in the way of durability....

GF,

they probably heat treated the steel for hardness, but I doubt they went out of their way to do any-kind of tempering to bring back right amount of elasticity. too time consuming.

if so, this is about expected durability when dealing with hard torquing hit..

stiffer/rigid the steel, easier to break/shatter, specially if it is thin. and the BH did break where it is narrowest.

Nice buck James. Good to see you posting and great to see you huntin. Looks like a very nice recurve kill to me.

Great-looking buck Ol’ Vet! Wasn’t there when I posted earlier...

I dated a gal for a while after she’d had extensive surgeries and was in a wheelchair.... Life is about what you CAN do; better that the spirit is still willing!

Good thought, Ted - one of the great things about this board is that we have so many guys who know so much about such a wide range of subjects...

Nice buck Ol' Vet. Good for you!

I took an 18yd shot today with my "new" Carroll's Gentleman Jim's using the string that came with it, and after I gave it a closer inspection and a much needed wax application. Brace height seems high to me too, 9-5/8", but it shot the arrows straight. Using 2114 arrows that I made up. I was shooting at the antlers and just missed each of them. I'm going to have fun tuning this bow up. This string combo is really noisy! I hope that you all have a good weekend. Lance.

Safe trip Jeff. Stood at the target and tossed arrows back and did a walk up from where they stuck. Turned out to be 23, 19, 17 & 15. 23 & 17 are side by side, 15 top & 19 low right. Now it's off to church. Thanks CD and a great Sunday to all.

My FS today was 38yds. using maddog machete. no photo as I undershot it about 4 inches and arrow bounced off from back stop.

took 5 more shots all hit the same area, just under the target, I was consistent at least :).

and finally got it on 7th arrow.

Hope everyone have a productive and joyful day today! -ted

After the rain on Saturday, it was cold and breezy on Sunday. Got the other Morrison Cheyenne out with the low grip and tried some cedars at the elk target. Roundabout 39 yards. This picture shows the shot.
