Hey all. A fellow member and friend sent me some fletch a month ago or so and in the bag were some banana fletch. I’ve never tried that style. Now that I have tried them, I really like them.

Who else prefers these Banana fletch to other styles?

The ones I am using are 3 inch and I have them at 4x90. Arrows are flying great.

I’d like to try them in a 4 inch length. Does anyone know if there are shops that sell banana fletch in RW that’s 4 inch long?

Any info will be appreciated.

Larry, ive never heard of 3" nanners. As for 4", i modified my bannana chopper for 4" long and .5" high. If thats what youre wanting i would chop all you want if you buy the full length feathers and send them to me. Or you could buy the chopper and id walk you thru how i modified mine.

I do Killed my first trad deer with nanners some say they are loud, but he didn't hear anything:)

I bought a dozen arrows with bananas on them, and I will say that they were VERY loud. Probably my fault for asking for the 5 1/2 inch, high profile…

I guess I thought they’d be good for small game, but the little rascals are tooooo quick when they hear that thing coming. Probably sounds like a hawk.

I'm not a fan of them, but have a pretty good pile of RW, either 4 or 4.5", in orange and yellow. I'll make you a great deal on them to get them out of my way.

That stabilize arrows well. They make a LOT of noise. Not my favorite.

I only use 5.5” magnums banana feathers. I ruined this arrow tonight.

I shoot 3- 5 1/4 inch Banana fletch,they seem to be quieter to me. Terry

I am not a big fan of them either. As for 3 in. I had a lil chopper made for that size years ago before 3Rivers acquired them. I have a similar cutter from Vario, not by design but I ordered wrong insert. They are not as noisy as the first ones I bought years ago made by Gateway. Not as high of a cut. They do tend to straighten out an arrow pretty quick but I can see a difference in trajectory at 25 yards.

I like them as well but wouldn't say I favor them over shields.

did 2 arrows with strait clamp big nanners. I think quieter than helical,but not as fun to watch. I prefer the helical. out of my low weight bows they are not very loud unless you got a bent feather..ron

I love banana fletch., have them and shield too.

I've been using them for years.They have a high profile so you can use a shorter length.If you do that the noise will be no worse than other shapes.

I like banana helicals for 3d and stump shooting as i love to watch my arrows in flight and you can follow them better than others, if you have never done so stand looking over the shoulder of someone shooting them and watch with a pair of wide angled binoculars and you will get a great sight picture . Just about everything that people will tell you..."it doesn't work"....will probably work just fine many times. That is why archery is one of those things where you really need to try things for yourself, versus just asking.

Been shooting 5in , and find they shoot great . Don't notice that they are noisy ? chop my own at 5in. and lower profile than you can buy!!

I don't notice any significant noise either.

I did a video that I posted on here years ago comparing the noise of shield vs parabolic feathers and was surprised at what I found. I videoed the noise from the archers perspective (outgoing) and the shield was much louder than the parabolic. I then videoed from the targets perspective (incoming) and the parabolic was MUCH louder than the shield.

Why do you want to load up on the drag when performance is preferred, I tried them back in the early 90s and the only positive it may compensate for a sloppy release. We spend money for a higher performing bow and FF/skinning strings and try to use the lite arrow to gain speed and then load it up w/ big fletching, doesn't make any since IMO.

I burned my own several years ago. 5-1/2" in length and a high profile. They were my own design and very loud...probably my own fault.

I have a very old feather burner, the one that heats a piece of wire that you can bend in any shape. I’ve tried many different shapes and find that the parabolic and banana are the quietest. The banana just looks cooler so that’s what I use. I will say if the banana is too high they can be on the noisy side.

Well I haven't shot them for awhile, but to answer you question I will say because we can. Performance is a multifaceted term, not meaning speed alone...which is how I interpret your comment. Shootability is part of it, as well as the aesthetic of arc in flight to some of us old pharts...and young pharts as well. We use what we use because we want to, not what someone else thinks is best. Gotta love America.

I would also ask why do some folks still shoot a 30:30 (me) instead of a 264 Winchester. The answer is pretty much the same...because we can..and we want to. If everything had to "make sense" it would be a dull world, not to mention a dull sport. Go up in the thread and look at Boomer's photos. That pretty much negates the thought of them not working just fine.

You can easily put a shim in the cutter to shorten and cut less height. They do act like a parachute if you put on a lot of twist with high back—that’s said-they are fun to watch go down range.
