You are all invited to participate in:

Traditional Equipment Broadhead Penetration Challenge

All criteria, rules, regulations, and relative links can be found at the above.
Please study them before making an entry submission.

This is not about just the broadhead.
It's about the overall configuration of your hunting arrows, and bow setups.
Every element of a configuration has some effect.
The broadhead is just one element among many that apply.

As the videos start coming in we may very well get to see the differences in effects between those configurations.
I sure hope so, because that is the point of this.

The challenge will run indefinitely, so there's no rush to get entries submitted,
although we would love to see them start rolling in fairly soon.

We will be keeping a web page list of the current TOP 10 EFFICIENCY ENTRIES.
Get your entries in, and shoot for the TOP 10.

How are you handling commercial entries? Just out of curiosity.

If by commercial entries you mean entries made by manufacturers, then I say all are welcome as long as they play by the rules.

If they are willing to put there stuff up against a plethora of other folks stuff, and run the risk of being shown up, then I say my hat is off to them.

TTT

I plan on participating Rick I am off for 2 weeks around Christmas time. With the way things are looking with my work it maybe then before I get to it. I get off a few days for Thanksgiving next week may try to do it then if I can stop deer hunting for a minute. LOL

Looking forward to it Ken

I didn't/don't expect folks to be able to jump right on this. I know it'll take some time, and that's why I wanted to go ahead & get the word out, and get the ball rolling.

That's awesome Arvin. Congrats !!!

Now rig up one of these foam blocks, and let's see how deep your setup will penetrate it.

Would be fantastic to see the penetration efficiency, that actually did the job for you. Will give folks something to chew on.

I didn't read the criteria yet, but I hope varying degrees of primitive gear is tested.

If it is legal to use "anywhere in the U.S." it is allowed, encouraged, welcomed into the event.

Still plan on participating, Rick. Christmas busy-ness is over and the weather is supposed to get a little milder here next week. It has been cold and windy here for several days.

This is great Rick, hope we get a bunch of entries! And your specs are approaching anallity, which I like! Most accurate results will be achieved! Wyatt

Hey Rick Barbee...how well does that target hold up? I was thinking about making a larger one for shooting my broadhead tipped wooden arrows into. Any disadvantages/advantages you have experienced? Thanks for your time.

From: SuperK

Oops, I forgot to add that it would be for long term use, not just a one time test. Thanks again.

From: Rick Barbee

Lee,

the foam works/holds up well for the use of target points, but broadheads will chew it up pretty fast.

I chose this foam for the test/challenge due to its consistency in density for the test, and it's perfect for that.

I did make a large target but for use with field points out of the same foam, and it is doing really well, but as someone mentioned above broadheads will pull chunks out of it during arrow removal.

No entries yet.

Anyone gonna do this?

I was going to till I saw the foam costs almost 40 dollars a sheet. I live in Fairbanks AK everything costs more up here.

This has been a fun little portal into human behavior. People will opine and use anecdotal evidence but rarely go through the trouble of finding facts/truth.
