It was a rough season so being blessed with this deer was very sweet. Early on we had very high temps, gnats almost drove me out of my tree at points. Then we got cold, rainy and then very cold for November.

The last few years I have passed on all young bucks hoping to see our herd come back from the intensive harvest plan the WI DNR had in place when CWD first started I'm in NE Crawford Co.)

I have also done what I can to attract more does to my 40 acres by planting a few food plots.

Anyhow, we all put in a lot of time and effort. Here is my buck.

Thanks guys, Here is another view. Oh, 20 yards or so shot. He died on the run after maybe 75 yards.

I have many trail cam pictures of him so that was cool. I started my week of hunting on the east side of my place near a bedding area in a ravine. The county decided to do some road work just up the road and I think that was enough that the deer vacated that area. I did not see much the first couple days. I changed up my tactics and started hunting a ridge top to the West thinking they might be crossing from one wood lot to another.

I got out late that morning because I trusted in technology, I had my alarm set on my phone. I did not realize the update it did the day before cleared out my alarm settings. So, I had to rush to get on stand. As I was dressing in my ladder stand I saw a doe stroll in and feed at my apple tree. I have no idea how she did not see or smell me. Later I saw a 6pt and then while reading a text from my wife (yep the phone got me again) I looked up and locked eyes with a nice a 10pt. He had smelled me and just strolled away after giving me a look like how pleased with himself he busted me. He was way out of range, about 40 yards. A couple hours later this guy came in and freshened up a scrape. He gave me a pretty good show. Great day in the woods.

Awesome buck Bill. I admire your decision to pass on those deer and your work on your food plots. Makes putting your tag on that buck so much more special, eh?

Mike, for sure. When my wife and I bought our place it was just a wooded horse pasture with some cleared areas. I am lucky my wife likes it up there and we plan on retiring there. I am also lucky in that my wife works just as hard as I do. Sometimes a spot will just bug her and the next thing I know there is a huge brush pile for me to deal with. I never say anything, she enjoys it and I get an area cleared.

We have a Park model trailer. They are nice because they are bigger than a travel trailer and small enough to not get taxed. One morning last summer as we sat having breakfast a doe with twin fawns came out of the woods to browse on the grass. We could sit and eat watching her. My wife commented that seeing something like that makes all the work worth it. Weird maybe but I've enjoyed clearing and planting food plots. I get to see plants grow and the deer use it.

My grandpa was a farmer and I think he would be proud but surprised I could get something to grow. Ha

Congratulations on a well earned beautiful buck. Sometimes when you pass on the younger bucks you get rewarded with a buck like the one you killed. Great job.

Guys, I'm overwhelmed by the kind words. Thank you so much I really appreciate it. Honestly after putting my hands on him and after a prayer thanking God for the blessing, I could not help but feel emotional about what and how this happened. Later it was even hard to stay composed when while talking to my youngest daughter (32) and her saying she was proud of me, my passion for Bowhunting and doing it my way. For those that are dad's you know how I felt.

Again, thanks again.
