I'm going to try to dip the next set of surewood that I get. Is there a particular paint that works best?

I have dipped, sprayed, and now I just paint it on with a foam brush. Quickest and easiest.

spray works well Krylon or cheap big box store rattle cans. Paint marker pens for cresting
water based poly over it
Surprising results!

For the professional doing many dozens, lacquer is the fast way to dip. Once you have the tools and materials, and are set up to dip, that is the fastest way to do them. Arrows are very labor intensive considering the money you receive for your work. I'm certain guys trying to make money at arrows have it down pat.
That said, I'm no pro at arrow making. It's a hobby. I spray mine with $1 rattle can from Walmart. Masking off the shaft and the nock point on a couple dozen is tedious, as is removing all that masking once done. I'm currently in the process of doing five dozen all white caps. A lot of work.

I always have used Rustoleum from a pint or quart can, thinned with a little paint thinner. Bulletproof. Glue feathers on with Duco cement. Richard

I use to use krylon at end , but now I just wipe on about 3 coats of poly and fletch. Just more into the natural look but also I got lazy.

I have only dipped with Bohning lacquer. Tried some waterbased stuff once, poor results for me. Bohning products an’it cheap but have always had great results. I know, I know their stinky but I do mine on the patio or in garage. I use Rustolem 2X for outdoors use on my carbons and when I want a color not offered in Laq. Learned how to use my Spinrite crester to get a better coverage. Got a doz woods curing as a write this. I sprayed a lite blue to match old wood Bear arrows from 1962. Used dark blue and silver to crest. Then foam brushed on two coats of waterbased Polycrillic.

Me too Bob, I love that. That is talent which I don't have when it comes to cresting.

Here's my "poor mans" set up for cresting. Drill is from Goodwill. A dab of clay holds the shaft in place.
