Folks, I fooled the big doe that fooled me twice this season, lol! I heart shot her at 6 yards and got a pass-through. Used the Grizzly head and couldn't find any sign of a hit. No blood at all, so I went and got MTQuiver, the ace tracker who can't see blood, lol! I made the shot at exactly 6PM and told MT I thought I made a deadly hit but couldn't find the slightest sign after searching for hundreds of yards. He told me she would be very close by, and I should have concentrated from 60 yards in. I took him to the spot I hit her and suggested she ran down a main trail about 25 yards or so away. As we started down the trail, I found the first sign, a drop of what looked like saliva with possible blood in it. It had to be from the deer, so MT told me to stay put while he checked a few yards off to the side. There she was, about 15 yards away! She went 50 to 60 yards. The shot hit right behind the front shoulder and appeared to have hit the heart, it did. Here's a photo of what I think is the exit through the top of the heart.

Here's a photo of MT with my doe. You can see the entrance wound, tucked in behind the front shoulder. The spot way back isn't a hit.

I'll get more pics of the hit when I skin the deer. The lesson I learned today was to never sell your hit short. My first thought was I had a dead deer, and then I started thinking she ran into the next county, and my shot must have been too high. I should have found her right away, but started looking hard 100 yards away from the hit, lol! I'll never do that again. Also, she mule kicked at the hit, and I thought I was seeing things and there must not have been a heart hit. This was a weary doe! There was only one spot I could sit in, considering the wind, and have a chance at a deer, and she didn't do as I expected and walk along the field edge. No, she stayed in the heavy cover that hid me and walked right toward me through it! By the time she saw me sitting in the bushes, it was too late, as I had hit full draw and released. I was hoping for a big doe, after passing them up earlier, as I wanted another hide and meat in the freezer. I can get a bonus tag, so I might hunt with MT later.

Thanks folks! Yes, I really wanted a shot at this doe, as she was wearier than any buck I've gone after. I might also mention I talked MT into showing me his method of field- dressing and then threatened to puncture his gut if he punctured her gut with his lousy technique, lol! Thats another lesson I learned. Never let MT field dress your deer! You should have seen how careful he was after I threatened to puncture him, lol! He is strong. He helped me drag her a quarter mile! He'll be rewarded.

Headed out hunting but had to post before leaving-lol. A super congrats on this harvest!!!! One of the most difficult hunts I ever had was on an 8 yr old doe, but they are the "front line" of security! Great job Frishky, that is a true accomplishment.

From: hawkeye in PA

Congratulations Frisky, and no "rash" burns.

I hunted a wise old doe some years ago never did get her. She could cold trail you to the tree stand 4 or 5 hours later on the driest of days no matter what precautions I took. One briar that rub your rain suit bibs would start her off.

Frisky - why was your deer so tired? or did you mean she was "wary" or "leery"

All joking aside - Congratulations Frisky!

- field dress my deer for me

- drag my deer for me

From: dm/wolfskin
Date: 19-Oct-17

I want to see a picture of you not MT.lol

From: Frisky
Date: 19-Oct-17

Thanks folks, lol! I meant wary. I was weary, as it was nearly 4AM before I could sit down and post.

MT really was a big help- find deer, dress deer, drag deer. However, he stumbled onto it, lol! Plus, I had to show him where I thought it had gone. I have work to do today, skinning and boning out the meat, but I'll get out and find the arrow and report. I used the mighty Grail, and the arrow shot through the deer. As she hauled it out of there, I saw a foot of arrow on the entrance side, so I knew the head had passed through. Had I missed the heart, I think the arrow would have blown all the way through with ease, instead of catching on brush and pulling out the off side.

You never can tell how the blood trail is going to be. I shot a yearling doe with a 30-06 one time and could only find a very sparse blood trail. I knew that she had run out into a clear field, so I quit trailing and walking into the field where she was easily found lying in the open. The deer was quartering sharply to me when I shot her and the 30-06 created a huge exit wound, but the internal organs were hanging out of exit wound and blocking blood from leaving.

Congrats again on your doe - she looks like a small horse.

That wound further back on the doe was from the hood ornament of a 57 buick that hit her just pror to Frisky seeing her, the reason she did not follow the norm, she was delerious from the accident. Frisky you did it again, you put a wounded animal out of it's misery.

I just had to say that...Ha!Ha!

Great shot and congratulations on your harvest. Six yards that was close, you could have drawn your super knife and jumped her.

From: olddogrib

I see no signs of external trauma. This poor animal was obviously fed apples laced with sedatives. I don't really want to know what happened before she came to, but I wouldn't be surprised if some 8x10 glossies of Frisky turn up in the next big FBI animal trafficking sting operation! I think some tissue samples and fluids should be sent to Nolz for immediate analysis.

Congratulations on a great hunt. Enjoy the venison!

IMO, very common on a direct heart hit to not bleed externally. I really believe when that happens the heart looses ability to pump blood, especially with enough pressure to leave a blood trail.

From: Frisky
Date: 19-Oct-17

Starting skinning, but I'll post tonight. I too got thinking the heart may have stopped on the hit and blood would not pump. Maybe that was a part of the zero trail.

Looking forward to seeing that S-shaped wound channel Joe.

From: dean
Date: 19-Oct-17

Nice looking doe. I don't understand the lack of blood. To connect with the heart when (I am assuming) shooting from the ground, the hit would not be so high that blood wouldn't be showing up with in twenty yards. Of course, with a hit like that and a Grizzly head, it could have been dull as a butter knife and still take the deer down in short order. I have had similar hits with the Grizzly and they sprayed blood like a lawn sprinkler.

From: GLF
Date: 19-Oct-17

You cut the nerves that make the heart beat the only blood would be what ran out of the heart with no pressure. So it wouldn't take much fat to clog the hole.

From: dean
Date: 19-Oct-17

That makes sense. Probably more would show up if the doe ran longer.

Great flight, pass throughs are the norm, but external bleeding can be iffy.

Folks: There has been an INTERESTING DEVELOPMENT! I'll be posting more pics tonight and tomorrow. I hit the deer twice with one shot, lol! Look at the photo. See the wound toward mid deer and high? As it ran off, I saw 15" of shaft coming from there! When we found the deer, MT said I just thought I had hit it back and high. When skinning, blood poured out of that wound and I could see the S cut! It turns out, the arrow flew right through the deer, flipped back toward the deer, and she impaled herself when she spun and mule kicked to run! The second impalement would have killed her too! It went in deep and the meat was very bloodshot! I hit her twice with one shot! That has to be legendary! Has it happened to any of you?

Cal, don't be too quick to dismiss Frisky's theory. I once shot a buck behind the shoulder with a slug and when I walked up to look at him, there was a second hole through his head. I assume that he swung his head into the line of fire at the last moment to get out of dodge and took the second hit. Now if you stop to consider that frisky's arrow was moving considerably slower It's conceivable that she could have spun around at breakneck speed and run into it a second time, lol.

Joe

From: Frisky

Here's what happened. The deer came in at either 5 or 6 yards. I'll measure today. I heart shot her. I was using 508 grain carbons, and the arrow shot through the deer and flipped with the point toward her as she took off. I believe the nock of the arrow wedged in brush, and the speed and weight of the deer caused her to impale herself. The first deer I ever shot was a complete passthrough with the arrow flipping back over the top of the deer. This one did similar but stuck back into the deer. That's my theory and would explain why the hit location I saw, as the deer fled, was higher and farther back than the heart hit. It also shows the tremendous power of the Grail. A bow able to score two deadly hits with one shot!

Joe

Okay to expound upon my earlier hypothesis, there does appear to be a deceased vitim. This only proves that someone went right by "Cosby" all the way to "OJ"! I'm ready to accept the "magic arrow" theory because I realized tbat Frisky actually killing a deer would require Divine intervention. I'll back off my cross examination...nice kill. But you really should give due credit and testify...unless she recognized you and had a heart attack from laughing too hard and you just ran up and did the "shish kabob" thing.

I agree with Rick Allison! Let me tell you a wild but true story= back in the 1977 i was hunting from a tree stand with a compound bow ,this one late Oct. morning around 9:00 am i was watching a big spike buck with some Does feeding on acorns about 20yds out i watched about 5 minutes before i had a good broad side shot ,at the release of my bow string i heard a slight burp from my right and saw another arrow hit the buck at the same time as my arrow hit and in about the same spot, i watched the deer run off then looked down and to my right to see another hunter there on the ground. The fellow on the ground turned out to be some one i knew ,and he was a still hunter and always use a Recurve Bow ,i climbed down to learn that he had walked up just a few seconds before he shot, he had just saw the deer.We tracked it down and drug it out together but i told him that he had did such a good job of walking up on that deer without me even seeing him i was so intent on watching the buck that in my opion he deserved the deer he objected but finnaly took it with him.I did kill an even bigger buck out of that same stand a week later,an event i will never forget. Strange but true.

From: Landshark Launcher
Date: 20-Oct-17

So you basically shot the deer twice with one arrow?

From: Wild Bill
Date: 20-Oct-17

So the entrance hole is forward of the exit hole(walked right toward me through it)quartering toward you, slicing the heart as it passed through, and then the arrow went over the back of the deer, and entered at the rib cage on the other side, point first.

"The second impalement would have killed her too!" Maybe, just maybe, this wound produced the slice in the heart?

This is one to remember.

I was thinking that the doe had a lot of fat and also the skin overlapped the wounds which shuts off the the blood leakage. It just goes to show, it can and does happen.

From: nomo
Date: 20-Oct-17

If you look at the "exit wound" pic, what appears to be fat coming across her back and down her side you can see the distinct tread pattern of a Michelin. The hole punched in the side was likely from a tie rod that was broken in the impact with such a large beast. ;~) Just jerkin your chain Frisky. Great shot and nice deer.

I'm with Cat, I'm proposing a different scenario. Frisky- being out of Fruit Loops cereal gets into car, backs down drive, crosses road and hits deer in neighbors yard across road. Doe hops up and runs to the brush, Frisky calls in reinforcements, hands knife off, and doe is found. Second scenario- Joe actually shot the deer, but WAY back, where the wound appears to be in the photo. From the box brush in neighbors yard, Calls in help, deer is found in street and drug to curb. Joe- just having a little fun. Congrats on the big Doe.

Just got in from an unsuccessful search for the arrow. I'll have to put MT back on the trail. I couldn't even find the gut pile location, as big tree branches started falling all around me in the high winds. I got out of there quickly and concentrated on the tall grass along her initial path. MT will probably help me find the arrow. Shot was at 5 yards. Photo of shot setup will follow.

I have held off from shooting close range does almost every time out this year. I had one at about 15 feet last night, called it in with a fawn bleat. I have been smitten by the the 12 pointer fever. I had him at about 50 yards with my calling attempts last night. He was more interested in the doe that I had in my lap. She didn't bust, but she did not like me much either. I wonder if my Super Holy Grail will put three holes in the buck if I get the chance. Of course, I am not using those whippy carbons, I have Surewoods.

From: Frisky
Date: 20-Oct-17

I'm still gloating over 3 holes in the hide. Not many people have a bow that can do that with one shot!

Wild Bill- I don't think the second entrance sliced the heart, as the wounds were level on both sides. The top of the heart was also in line with the entry and exit.

Here's another scenario. I shot an arrow through the deer. She took off with some of the arrow sticking out that I saw clearly but was in error as to location. I saw it back and high, but maybe it was low and forward? In her dash, she somehow stabbed herself on a stick, producing a 2" slash that looked exactly like an arrow wound.

Folks- Here's where I was sitting. I had my squeaky, red stool with me, but I took off my homemade ghillie cape and used it to pad the seat. That kept me more comfortable, so I wouldn't squirm around and squeak the seat, costing me a shot. I also noticed my old camo coat is harder for deer to see than my big cape. To the left, you can see a wide shooting lane that leads 12 yards out into a field. This is the only lane I cut wide. On the extreme right, you can see a bunch of brush. She came through heavy cover, from the right, and stepped out from that bunch of sticks. She would have been nearly 5 yards on the dot. Maybe a 1/2 yard closer. Sorry about the lens smudges. I think they're permanent.

Joe

From: Dry Bones

So where is the neighbors house? Is it that "field" through your "Wide Lane"?

-Bones

From: Lowcountry

Thanks for the blind pic Frisky. That was good patience, discipline, timing, and nerve to get your shot off with her in your lap. Impressive! That really was an ambush.

From: Frisky
Date: 20-Oct-17

Yes, when she looked at me, she was standing relaxed, apparently not sure what I was. My intention was to have her or a buck I'd seen come from right to left along the field edge and take the shot as it stepped into the lane. The cover to my right seems almost impenetrable, and that's the way she came! Right through the bad stuff. She wasn't completely in the clear when I shot, but was close enough to get a hit where I needed it.

Joe

From: Frisky
Date: 21-Oct-17

Oh, in the photo of the entrance wound, you can see my Carbon Canadian Belt Knife Shootemstraight gifted to me. I used it during skinning. I found it to be my best knife for making the cuts needed prior to skinning. The blade shape is perfect for the job. The actual skinning is really a lot of pushing and pulling on the hide and meat, using the knife sparingly. I plan to use the CC as a gutting knife. MT wanted to try my Victorinox Hunter XT or I'd have gutted the deer with this knife. It's really a nice knife!

Joe

From: Frisky
Date: 21-Oct-17

One last scenario- I shot the deer and it ran off with some of the arrow and fletching showing. It stumbled as it went, and the arrow caught brush, pulled out and stabbed the deer. A sharp arrow is dangerous, and this could have happened. Now, I’ve ruled out MT accidentally cutting through the deer during field dressing. The area drained blood when I pulled the skin back and the flesh under the cut was severely bloodshot. That wouldn’t happen to a dead deer. This deer had been dead for a few hours when dressed.

Joe

From: Landshark Launcher
Date: 21-Oct-17

Ok, help me out.I'm not very smart. You just said the arrow pulled out of the deer by some brush, then stuck back in the deer?? , Did this deer have all four of it's legs in working order, unlike your last deer? If this thread don't hit 200 posts, you are not a Legend.

From: dean
Date: 21-Oct-17

That would mean the broadhead caught brush, pulled the arrow through and the deer came back around to stick itself itself. I have never seen a Grizzly go back the way it came from any bow, all but one of mine were pass throughs and that went through the shoulder. I would think that it happened close to where you found the deer. It could have pulled through and then the deer turned around and fell on it. One more way off idea, the deer reached back pulled the arrow out from the point end then slung her head around and stabbed herself from either going for the entrance wound or falling in that position with the arrow in her mouth.

From: 4nolz@work
Date: 21-Oct-17

ttt so Frisky doesn't have to.

From: dean
Date: 21-Oct-17

I think it is far more likely that the back hit was from a prior hit. The doe came through thick stuff that first arrow could be back in the thick stuff. Someone without the Legend's accuracy and without the power of the Grill hit it first. He did say the deer was not completely clear of cover and would not have seen that small spot.

From: Frisky
Date: 21-Oct-17

My brother and I discussed the possibility of someone hitting the deer prior to my hit. I've had to rule it out. The deer was completely relaxed, and no hunters were anywhere in the area. Also, the big slash would have bled all over the place! It wasn't blocked by fat. However, on a deer that had just had its heart stopped, it wouldn't have bled. I'm going to have to call it a mystery and try to find the arrow for more clues.

Thanks Arlone! For the area, she's a really nice deer. I'm not much of a doe killer, as I'd like to see the place crawling with deer, but the city is holding a big doe hunt to try to thin the herd. Then you have a lot of the deer being hit on I-90 a couple hundred yards away. A few years ago, I passed up a big doe that hung out in this same WMA. The next day, I saw her dead on the road. The next year, I passed on a buck with a broken tine, in the same spot. The next day, I was driving by the place and there he was, dead in the ditch. Yet, the population is pretty good, so an occasional doe does little damage. I'm still hoping the big doe hunt is a failure.

From: Frisky

Austin has some really huge bucks, but they're mainly right in town, lol! We're talking monsters that would rank high in the books! This November, a few of them might be taken, as they are having a hunt right in the city parks. The hunters participating must be in tree stands and have to shoot a doe before they are allowed to take a buck though. They'll also be hunting in the WMA where I shot the doe, but the deer in there are super wary and not easily taken.

Yes, I'm the only bowhunter in the region who can successfully hunt in there, over and over. You have to be of legendary quality to do it, as it's a small place and often overrun with compound bow toting scum. They drive everything out or keep the deer in there on edge.

Get a ball of string and start laying out the search area in a 4 square foot grid pattern. You will probably find the arrow before you finish laying out the grid. I once found my grandmother's harmonica that way. I really hope you find your arrow.

From: Frisky
Date: 26-Oct-17

I have the kite string. I'll go ahead and lay it out after our little storm. I couldn't go out today, as it was dangerously windy, and I had to get ready for the cold by finishing raking, putting plastic over the garage window Crookedstix shot out, getting the car ready, hose but away and all that stuff.

The meat is now thawing out for grinding today. MT asked if he could have some meat to make his "famous" venison chili. I told him I had a big bag of neck scraps awaiting his expertise! He seemed to be a little saddened and went quiet. There's nothing wrong with neck scraps, and beggars can't be choosers!

Joe

From: Frisky

One last thing. I'll stay off this thread unless I find the arrow. I just wanted to say my theory that the arrow flipped back toward the deer might hold water. I'm thinking it's not what happened, but it could have. You see, I had a 160 grain head with 75 grain steel insert on the end of the arrow. That's a 235 grain head! The rest of the arrow weighs around 274 grains. So, it's a very front heavy arrow. It seems like that could easily flip it.

SB- Nice to see you back! Here's a photo I didn't want to post, as it muddies the water. It shows the entry and exit wounds. Between them is another slit. I've never cut or torn a hide while skinning, but there's a slit right between the entry and exit holes! I must have done this when I pulled the hide off. There appears to be what I called a third entry wound about 12" low and left of the knife handle. You can see how bloodshot the area is.

I’m thinking that what we have here is a “magic arrow”. Not unlike the “magic bullet” found by the Warren Comission’s investigation. So Joe must use a calendar to check the Grail’s speed rather than a Chrono. This would lend credence to Joe’s theory of what actually happened with the deer and the arrow. ^(_)^

I was selling bags of fat wood at the WV visitor center not far from my house this afternoon. A young couple bought a bag and as I tossed the sack in the bed of their truck I noticed a blood stained arrow. Bow hunter I asked? No, we found it sticking in a buck deer while we were geocaching. Deer had been dead for a few days. We pulled the arrow out and brought it out of the woods. Was that near here I ask? No, up in Minnesota he replied. Upon inspection I see an Easton Storm shaft, plastic imitation feathers, 2 bright greenish-yellow,1 bright orange. Orange nock, and a rust colored 2-blade broad head that somebody only had time to sharpen one side of each blade. The young man said he was keeping it because it emitted a mysterious effect on him. I didn't mention it but I noticed the strange effect before he said anything about it. The reason I am mentioning it on this thread is because it is the same feeling I get when I see pictures of the Holy Grail bow.

Lost arrow- that arrow sounds a lot like what I used on the doe. Carbon Storm shaft with two flo yellow and one flo orange vane and orange nock and rust-colored single-bevel head. Do you think I got a buck too? Was it a big one?

Regardless, one thing remains true. You have a freezer full of delicious deer meat. I let another little buck walk, that is four in four days and I am getting hungry. Can I borrow a pound or two of deer burger?

From: Lost arrow
Date: 30-Oct-17

Confession Time. Some of you may be surprised to learn that I lied about the mysterious effect the arrow emitted in my last post. The reason for the post was the Minnesota connection. After seeing the picture of your arrow I am shocked. The arrow in the bed of the truck looked like your arrow. The only other thing I remember is that one of the plastic feathers had black writing on it. As I mentioned in my last post, the strange to me broad head may have been one of those single bevel heads you guys talk about. The young couple was headed to an orienteering seminar somewhere in North Carolina. I did notice Wisconsin license on the truck. Also, the young lady said the buck had a decent set of horns. Stranger things have happened.

From: Frisky

Dean- No. I already gave the neck scraps to MT.

Lost arrow- Yes, it has Easton printed on the orange vane. Must be my arrow. Made it all the way to WV, and I thought it was in Iowa! I once sent up balloons with a note that traveled 24 miles, so this arrow, considering the power of the Grail, could have crossed the country if it landed in the bed of a truck, heading east on I-90, 400 yards away!

Hey Frisky, and who found your deer? And who field dressed your deer in 1/4 the time it would have taken you? Why would you doubt he will be able to find your arrow in 20 minutes? Just a quick word. Yesterday, I searched for an hour and a half and found nothing. The arrow seems to have been gobbled up by the arrow god. I believe the mortally injured deer did what they often do- zigzag. I think the arrow is just 10 to 15 yards off to the side of the search area. MT says he can find it in 15 minutes on Sunday. He can't find squat! My dad would have told him he couldn't find his butt if it wasn't attached to him. I'll report and post a pic if MT proves me wrong. MT finally went looking for my arrow today. In an effort to impress his lady friend, he found it, in plain view, in 7 minutes. He’s trying to claim his $10,000 reward! The problem is, he brought me only 2/3s of the arrow! It’s the broadhead that’s worth the 10 grand! I let him know he isn’t even getting 10,000 cents, unless he finds that broadhead section! Here’s a photo of what he found next to the full length of these arrows. Either his friend found it or more likely, it was hidden in a vertical position and dropped down in the grass along the field edge, becoming exposed. He might post a pic in the thread. From the photo he showed me, it was in plain sight and I’d have never missed it. Heck, I checked that exact spot for over an hour! Anyway, I need the other end of this arrow! I let MT know the job is unfinished! He also dropped off a bloody knife for me to sharpen. At first, I wasn’t sure I had previously sharpened that knife. However, when I felt the edge, and it was still razor sharp, I knew I had sharpened the Pakistani pile of garbage!

MT was crying due to my attitude. He expected a reward and pat on the back. I warned him- no good deed goes unpunished! Anyway, it's possible the front can be found, as my nephew is an expert treasure hunter and has pretty sophisticated metal detecting equipment. I plan to show him the broadhead, on one of the other arrows, so he'll know the detector signature and then put him on the trail. I think it will be fairly close to where MT found the back end. Also, the deer ran along the field edge and the down a trail where we found her. It's didn't run through the heaviest cover, so I think we'll find it. Careful detecting is the way to go in this situation.

Arrow update: Folks, MT found the front end of the arrow, but I think his lady friend found it and he took credit for it to wrestle the $10,000 reward out of me. He doesn’t get the reward, as he was 1 minute over the time limit. He claimed to have taken 7 minutes to find the tail end and 14 minutes to find the front end. If my math is correct, that’s 21 minutes. He said he could find the arrow in 20 minutes. Plus, he didn’t have the required video proof of the exploit. Well, I think he deserves something, after complaining about eyeballs floating atop his stew, so I’ll have to get him a Christmas present. What do you think I should get him? It has to be cheap. Anyway, the edge on that Grizzly, after sitting out in the open along the field edge since October 18th, still took a little hair off my arm! I’ve now got it back to shaving sharp, but I might retire it. I’d like to take a 4th deer with it. He (or she) found the front end 5 yards farther down the trail from the back end. The red color of the Grizzly stood out against a white ground. We were able to piece together what happened:

The deer came out of heavy cover, approximately 4 yards in front of me. I released an arrow, striking the deer tight behind the left shoulder and got a pass through, the arrow going through the top of the heart. The deer mule kicked, spun around and headed through brush, about 10 yards to the edge of the field and ran westward along the field edge. I thought I saw the arrow back farther than the actual hit but was mistaken. The back half fell out in 25 yards, probably standing upright in tall grass. The front section fell out 5 yards farther down the trail, to the NW. The deer turned north into the woods and ran another 20 yards, lying down by a boulder and succumbing to its injury. Upon skinning, I found a third wound, very fresh, probably caused by MT’s sloppy field-dressing. That would explain the third wound. Thus ends the mystery of the double-dead deer. All that remains is to get him a cheap gift. Maybe a $10 gift certificate to McDonalds? That might be overdoing it though.

So what you actually shot was a deer mule? Out here we call em mule deer...

Glad this case is closed. So the cat found on I - 90 with the front of an arrow in it is another story. Medium size bag of Doritos would be a fitting gift for MT.

Lost arrow- Good suggestion on the Doritos! I think they're on sale this week too. They could share the bag, and they last longer than a McDonalds burger and fries.

Mistake! I said the doe came out of heavy cover at 4 yards. 4.5 to 5 yards would be more accurate.

Yeah I would have killed them too. LOL

Especially when they tried to send notes home that there were Pirates spotted on coast. LOL

Shiver me timbers all good matey. LOL

I shot a ladys white pigeon once she came running out of her house in her night gown screaming at me about shooting her white pigeon. How was I supposed to know it was her bird it was flying free and not near her house either.

I ate it and it was tasty too. Pet or not it didn't go to waste.LOL

Today, my significant other and I located Frisky's broadhead that he states he has taken 3 other big game animals with. Here is my version, (the REAL version), of what transpired over the last few weeks. I will attempt to keep it short and to the point. Frisky called me up, basically in tears, stating he had taken a shot on a nice doe and wanted me to come over to track the animal, but thought it was an unrecoverable deer. After hearing him relay the particulars of the shot placement and reaction of the doe, I told him I thought it was indeed a recoverable deer and most likely had not gone more than 80 yards. Long story short, Frisky and I went out to track the doe, which I located in short order. Due to Frisky's limited ability at field dressing, I handled that chore as well. No big deal there. Frisky then walked ahead of me as I dragged the deer out of the woods and back to the vehicle. He cried most of the way back to his place, stating that was the only broadhead he owned and it was sentimental to him as he found it by an old tree stand, thinking it was a real old Indian head. So he offered me $10,000 if I could find his arrow which I located in about 7 minutes, but he said I had to find the broadhead too. I finally had a chance today to go back out and found the head in about 14 minutes. It had snowed and was a bit difficult to see, but the task was handled in short order again. Frisky now has backwatered on the reward as he thinks the combined time was one minute too long. My reputation as a tracker, field dresser, dragger, and arrow recovery partner has been besmirched. I am traumatized and feel my character has been maligned. Since this is suppose to be the season of good will toward men, of which, I can only assume Frisky still qualifies for, I am going to accept his decision to not pay me for the recovery of his sentimental arrow head. He is THE LEGEND and I must respect that title. Though his actions in this matter are also LEGENDARY, I am going to be the bigger man. I wish you well in future endeavors Frisky and call me anytime you need help in game recovery. I am still willing to help where I can. Merry Christmas. MTQUIVER

Nice save MTquiver... I believe he Uglied it to death and this whole story crap and the desecration of the carcass is just a smoke screen to cover up the real cause of death.

Now what kind of smoke he's using to make that smoke screen is for another discussion!

MT. Your account of the deerslaying is probably believable but not exactly as Frisky's account. Therefore I would like to say I believe it is 2 hunters perspective of following up on a hunting encounter, recovering the animal, and putting together the pieces of the puzzle. As far as your part in the event I think you should receive a large bag of Doritos and a Snickers bar.

Am I the only one to detect a hint of sour grapes? The crybaby didn't get his reward because he was a minute over the time limit. In the words of ex-convenience store robber, Charlie F., "Rules is rules." I knew where that deer was or we would never have found it. I also supplied a decent light or MT would have missed it. Even the found arrow was the result of time and blind luck. How can a blind man find anything that isn't attached to him? Doritos and Snickers it is, but that's it. I think MT should head down to Georgia and hunt with Big Jim. When the hogs come in, Big Jim will be snoring in his stand while MT snores in his pop-up, hahaha! I can't wait to get a photo of MT's doe to post here. 120 pounds on the hoof, and now it's up to 170 and growing by the minute!

Please forgive me for my limited experience in responding to these posts. I am new at this and find this site to be refreshing and interesting to say the least. If i may weigh in on this matter, it seems to me that this MT guy has gone out of his way to help a friend in need and has accomplished a great many tasks that Mr Frisky was in dire need of. At first, i was not sure there even was an MT guy cause he never responded, so i am glad to know there are Individuals out there willing to sacrifice their time and effort to assist others in need.. It does puzzle me however, to see MT being verbally abused but perhaps this is just friendly banter. Perhaps, a little better compensation would be in order here. While $10,000 appears to be a bit excessive, a bag of Doritos and a snickers bar seem woefully inadequate. Just saying. Hopefully, a satisfactory resolution to this dilemma can be acquired. Best of Luck Gentlemen. ~OB55

From: Frisky
Date: 09-Dec-17

OB55- I was overly generous with the guy. He got a bag of neck scraps, eyeballs, hocks and tongue and couldn't even appreciate that! All I kept were hindquarters, backstraps and tenderloin. Cripes! I'll think about giving him more than a bag of Doritos and a Snickers bar.

Monkeyball- I should have used a red osier or black ash shaft and natural fletching. It would have added greatly to the experience and have been easy to find, as the shafts are light in color. Come to think of it, they do look a lot like the straw-colored grass though. At 5 yards, even at 15 yards, they would do the job. I'll tell you what; next year, I'm going to use them. Taking a mature deer is no longer much of a challenge for me, as I've mastered the art of disappearing in plain sight, so using more primitive arrows would add some challenge.

You'd think that assisting a LEGEND would be reward enough. Wanting more than that, quite frankly, shows lack of character.

Pigeons taste great if they are eating grain and seeds not the ones that fly in the city like some might be thinking they are disgusting I see what you mean and agree. They are like a big dove.

I bet the lady if it was her pet feed it well also and it had a plump breast so it was even better. I should have thanked her for keeping bird for me to shoot and eat.LOL

Wait a minute you need help with a metal detector! Come on now this is real nonsense Joe.LOL

From: Frisky
Date: 09-Dec-17

The Spam gift is a super idea! I also agree with Longbowdave here. MT should have been honored to assist me. Instead, he's begging for a reward. I'll tell ya a funny story:

Last year, on Halloween, I got a tearful call from MT, begging me to assist him- immediately! I explained I was passing out candy to the little kids and would help him out in less than an hour. He screamed, "I need help now! Forget those rotten kids!" MT put his own distress ahead of hungry little kids. Now he's trying to bum a reward out of THE LEGEND!

I think that the trad police should investigate, this whole doe kill. I'm not sure that plastic vanes are considered trad. And tell us about that Hecs suit that you wear. BOGUS!!!

From: Frisky
Date: 10-Dec-17

LL- I've transcended physicality when I hunt. I've no need for a HECs or ghillie suit. As stated, just before the sun began to set and the doe came out, I quietly slipped out of my homemade ghille cape and sat on it for comfort. I realized I could make myself disappear in plain sight. This is a skill that cannot be mastered by anyone operating below legendary status. They cannot disappear without climbing into a tree or pop-up blind.

RE: Longbowdave. “You’d think that assisting a legend would be reward enough.”

Doesn’t that beg the question, “Why would a legend NEED assistance?”

Seems to me the real legend is MTQUIVER who found the deer, field dressed the deer, dragged the deer out, went back and found first the shaft and “plastic vanes,” and finally acutally located and returned to Frisky the shaft and broadhead, in other words recovered both ends of the magic arrow.

All Frisky did was shoot a deer - as did MTQUIVER as well as many other LeatherWallers.

I believe the true LEGEND here is MTQUIVER. Time for Frisky to step down and let a REAL legend take the title!!

Who’s with me on this assessment??

Though the facts as stated above show MT doing most of the work, it is all part of Frisky's mentoring plan to elevate MT to a higher level. Just part of the test to eventually bring MT to legendary status.

Frisky was busy at home perfecting "Ma's Legendary Buick Battered Venison Recipe". ;) bvd

I re-read the initial story on how Frisky shot his doe. I ain't buying it. It is starting to look like one of those super market ducks 'parts missing'.

From: Frisky
Date: 16-Dec-17

The only error in my initial story was the shot distance. I said 6 yards. I didn't realize just how close it was until I went back and saw where the deer was standing and where I was sitting. Barely 5 yards! MT can verify.

Joe

From: dean
Date: 16-Dec-17

Jjust kidding, I had deer close enough to touch one day. Four of the were under ten feet, one was behind me, I could hear it breathe and chew its cud, while another was a few feet in front of me. All does, yearlings and fawns. The stubby eight and 12 pointer were chasing another doe around and never came into any shooting position. Now I wished I would have shot one of those does.

Hey Frisky! I heard from MT and he wanted me to pass along a picture of the doe he shot this fall as his computer isn’t working. Since you have maligned him so often (all in good fun, of course), I thought I would send this one your way on your old LEGEND thread. Unlike you, MT, shot, tracked, field dressed, dragged, weighed his deer AND he recovered his own arrow LOL! MT shot this with his new/old Schaefer bow not with his “retirement bow.” Here is the picture for your and everyone else’s enjoyment! ~OB55
