Has anyone here experimented with the placement of fletching on the shaft with definitive results? I place mine about one inch from the string grove in the nock, only because I always have, just wondering if moving them further down the shaft has any measureable effect, good or bad?

The closer to the nock the longer the steering leverage. You just need clearance for your fingers. Much farther forward and you will be messing up the feathers on the riser.if you use long feathers and happen to have a fairly low brace height.>>>----> Ken

, I've heard to keep them back towards the end. But I've never tested it. JF

Mine are all 1in from where the nock meets the shaft. Don’t know why, it’s just the way I’ve always done it. 1in from the nock groove doesn’t leave much room for fingers.

Probably NO more than an 1" to 1-1/2" from the saddle of the nock or maybe where the nock end of the shaft is? As mentioned? Long feathers and LOW BRACE HEIGHT will not go well together. JMHO

Some years ago I used a face mask for hunting. To prepare for a bear hunt I found that the 5.5" fletching was touching my mask and making a skritchy sound. I moved the fletching forward and out habit, that's where they go now. Also, I've switched from shield cut to banana style.

I moved mine out a but and found that my draw increased just a bit due to feathers contacting my cheek. I remember seeing a guy do four fletch with two of them out farther due to face contact. Never know until you try it

Just don't put them down past the printing on the shafts, :-) With feathers you can go from 1" to 2" maybe a little more from your nock.

I recently experimented with moving my feather forward to just shy of the riser to use as a brace height check. then I shot it and another one that is fletched at my normal spot and saw no different in flight or grouping. 5" feather, with my current BH and clamping jig it was about a 1/4" shy of the riser.

Friend has adjusted his fletching distance to use tip of feather in place of a clicker. Another friend has just moved his 2" feathers about 2" forward of where you'd expect...says it makes no difference (very fast bow).

I recently moved my 4" feathers forward to about 2- 2 1/4" from the nock to help me out a bit so my nose doesn't bury itself into the feather as I use the contact as a nocking reference. Switched to shields as well. 7" brace on my bow. Absolutely no ill effects in anyway.
