My grown son just showed me a Red Wing Hunter that was given to him.

58", 40#, Serial No. RW 14720.

Can anyone give me a date of manufacture estimate.

Thanks,

AAA

Not sure but I was carrying one back in the early 80's

Need to see a couple of pictures of the riser, decal and tips...it was before Head Ski bought Wing as the prefix is RW but it could have been made over a number of years.

I'm pretty sure the "red wing hunter" was "after or right at the time Head Ski/AMF took over and Bob Lee did not have any or much influence over the design of this bow. My guess would be 70's as most of the ones from the 60's the limbs twisted-lol otherwise if it was taken care of it is a good shooter. I would not turn down another one.

The prefix "RW" was not used on post 1967 RWH. RA for Head Ski (1968-69) and then R- 2 for AMF (1970 on).

So not a 70's bow...only way to tell is pictures.

Thanks Pdiddly-I was not aware of this. Interesting indeed.

All are good bows, but I prefer the RW ones.

It is a pre-Head bow, old style decal. Thanks, all.

An early post from "Wing Archery Experts" 12/25/07.

"all has to do with aging the bows-different times of production. Very first Red Wing Hunters just had the Letter R, then in about 1963-6 it was RW. When Head Ski bought it they went to RA in 1967. Same with the decals." __________________ Enjoy the flight of an arrow amongst Mother Nature's Glory!

Is it the gold decal?

Can you post a picture of the tips...there were three different styles.

The R labelled bows are very old and some were 62".

I'll have to ask my son. He just drove home with the bow and I can't remember the color of the decal. I have a Head RWH that I bought when I was 17 or 18 in the late sixties, 58" 45#.

Call Bob Lee archery like I did about one a few years ago.

I have pre-head-ski, head-ski and AMF in my collection. My 43# HS and 54# AMF are absolute knock busters...The slightly wider grip of the post small-tip fits my hands better. They are my go-to whitetail bows. Top bow is a gold decal small-tip, middle is a head-ski and bottom is an AMF.
