This morning I finally had the opportunity to take a doe with my longbow, after a long 11 years since 2006 when I was 12 when I short my last with my recurve. At 8:45 this morning, two doe ran up right towards me as I was finishing up putting on an additional layer. As the first doe was running towards me I hastily grabbed my bow and by the time I was ready she had passed by, luckily it was being followed by another doe. I drew back and followed her along, almost letting down I decided to finally let it fly while she was at 18 yards walking. I was able to watch my green lumanock bury behind her shoulder digging into the far shoulder. A phone call to my father later and a painful 30 minutes later we were on the trail. Had good blood and found the feather end of the arrow. All and all she ran about 100 yards and the cutthroat did it’s job quickly. It was a fantastic morning! She ended up weighing in at 98 pounds which is about average for here and I am perfectly happy with it!

Shot it with a Big Rock black hunter longbow, 54@29. Using an Gold Tip Warrior shaft with a 200 grain Cutthroat on the end. Total arrow weight was about 560 with a brass insert and aluminum collar. I must say this is a budget deer hunting rig for sure. The bow was a 200 dollar special from Landcaster and the shafts were 55 bucks a dozen. Could not be more happy with it. Also for the price of this bow it shoots just as well as my Widow and Schafer I have and for a 1/4 of the price. Shot well enough for it to get the nod. It started out as a bow I was going to use at 3D courses so I could ride my motorcycle to them and throw it in the saddlebag but quickly jumped to the primary bow/

Good for you. That's a great memory for you and your dad to share. My son and I hunted since he was twelve. He's 35 now and we don't hunt together, but we still talk hunting and archery. I call on him to help me drag my deer out.
