I seldom see guys shooting arrows that have much more than fletching on them anymore. That wasn't the case years back.

I didn't crown dip these, but a little cresting looks nice and really doesn't take all that long to do.

Selden, I like the next to the bottom one. Wraps are easy to use to dress up arrows, but cresting makes them more personal.

How about specifying the wraps you use..if you do use wraps...

Arrows like these are gorgeous. But...I don't spend the time making my arrows look like these because arrows get lost and get broken.

I used to build my own footed wood arrows, but I lost most of my arrow building, cresting and dipping equipment several years ago. I don't see me getting back into building on that level again but do wrap my carbons and buy all my wraps from Onestringer.

Beautiful looking! Didn't know that carbons could be dipped and crested . Without this the are ugly as an undertakers underpants .

Most of those beautifully crested arrows in the 60's were done by big manufacturers like Bear, Browning, etc. Here's some Browning arrows circa 1963.

What do you use to plug the ends before dipping?

I have been crowning and cresting carbons for years.

CDumas - I have two methods. 1- have a set of nocks just for painting. 2- I spray paint them and no need to plug

Why I like white or yellow crowns. (they show color well)

Dry Bones, you can't use finger paints! :^)

I use Rustolem 2X spray paint for outdoor use. Says for plastic on the can. I use for cresting RC car paints I get at the hobby shop. Anther paints are Testors Acrylics. I also use plain wraps and crest over them. Same paints for cresting I use on the spray paint. One thing I do is use MinWax Water based Acrylic clear over the finished cresting. I wait a day and just use a foam brush to apply. I use Saunders NPV glue to Fletch.

For me, on my hunting arrows, it isn't practical. I try to achieve as much FOC as possible and adding weight to the rear defeats what I'm trying to accomplish.

I made these carbons for my son -- rustoleum spray crown and tests crest. Weight added to rear of shaft was almost nothing.

For myself, I still prefer wood.

I meant to say testors crest. Sorry.

Like fletching, or any other shaft material for cresting, prep is the key.

Get them clean, then even cleaner, and don't even park your car in the same neighborhood to keep oil away. ;-)

Was hoping the bodyman might post up some of his as well. Ya'll do beautiful work. I like the arrows, I just haven't been successful at it yet.

Scotsman Where did you get the wraps you used on your arrows? I like the idea of having the cresting match the family tartan. Btw I'm from the clan Farquarson (been told we're related to Macbeth).

Here are some carbons, all with Rustoleum sprayed caps.

red, I like those white cap and fletch. Those look like my old ones. Visible in low light and dark backdrop.

And there you have it. It's unanimous. )) I love dipped and crested arrows. And the last thing I would be concerned with is it messing up my FOC. Sometime you may want to check the weight of a bare unpainted shaft, and one dipped and crested. I doubt there's even twenty grains of difference. Buy whatever.

Answers about the Clan wraps- these are made to order from Onestringer. You can design the wrap you want, email the pattern and colors to Onestringer and voila! The cap and design is on base wrap which you then protect under a clear top wrap.

Thanks Bob. The white fletched ones are primarily 3-D arrows and the flour. green are hunting arrows. The white do show up nicely in the air, ground and target and they've held up for several seasons now.

Here's three of my latest dozen that I made for hunting this fall. I don't like the GT logo so always remove it with acetone and an abrasive pad. One deer down with this dozen already.

Drewster which again may be the reason a lot of newer traditional bow shooters don't shoot pretty arrows. They came from compounds and are always trying to improve something... Ask me how I know. Jeff, thanks for posting those. I like them a lot.

I jumped in with both feet, cresting and splicing. While I enjoy it greatly, it's a lot of time.

I dip cadrbons also and use empty 22 shell casings wrapped with painters tape to plug the shaft ends. Cleans up easy afterwards.

Here are some I am finishing up for a customer. In all the arrows I have made over the years, these are the first with wraps. I may change my mind at some point in the future, but I prefer to dip them . . .

Having some shoulder issues and while it heals I am shooting a lighter weight bow. I decided to shoot some carbons instead of woods. These are the first carbons I have put on a bow since I used Graphlex arrows years ago . . .
