I have been making osage selfbows since 1991, and this is one of them. We get 6 deer tags in VA and can buy more.

my wife was sleeping cause she gets up early, my son in law was not hunting that day, and it started pouring rain before i found her. luckily i watched her glip over at a dead run. that is why no hero pic, just hanging in the washrack of the horse barn. i did not mean to denegrate the moment

I always thought self bows didn't have enough power to kill deer, guess I was wrong :)

Nice job Mike! What draw weight?

Its a cool accomplishment. I hunt with my self bow a few times a year. Nothing yet. But I hope I can get a nice pic of the deer and the bow. Just would be a cool pic is all.

That's just awesome!Did you get much blood with the ACE Std? I love those heads.

Started to pour heavy rain before I started looking, but I watched her flip over on a dead run...............

From: Ed Grosko Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I love to see them fall in sight. Takes all the stress out after the shot. I have found Ace heads to do pretty well leaving blood.

From: Tajue17

awesome!!!!

From: TrapperKayak

Nice job all around! Nothing wrong with that picture, I actually like it, deer hanging in a wooden barn stall with self bow hanging next to it. That's what its all about, home made everything.

congratulations ,, great shootin,,

From: Michael Schwister Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

The ACE standard is the most underrated head out there IMHO. Mounts easy, sharpens easy with just a grobet mill bastard file (wipes hair) ,stays sharp even after through a game animal and stuck into the ground, tough as nails, penetrates as well as STOS/Magnus II/Zwickey eskimo (the best three in my weighted penetration resistance trials), and is inexpensive. I use many different heads for different uses, but ACE standards is all anybody really needs. I actually am carrying 2 ace standards (160 and 75 grain woody weight), 2 Grizzly Kodiaks single bevel(235gr), and 2 Simmons Treesharks (160 with 75 gr Woody weights) in the quiver.

Shot a big doe with the first self bow I made out of hickory....with an Ace standard! Made quite a few out of white woods but had no luck with Osage. I just couldn't work it. Wish I had a nice Osage bow though. Only hunted with a self bow that one fall.

Good job Michael, I have one of Arvin's master pieces. Thanks to you, now I have a stave coming with lots of history. I trust you included a little of your Mo Jo with it. I will be working hard to get back up to a hunting weight by next year. Thanks guys for all the incentive. >>>----> Ken
